I have been playing this guitar for this six years as a hobbyist. I can say that this is a good beginner's guitar. Once you have been playing this for a while you realize the need for better pickups and better tremolo (goes out of tune with whammy bar else no issues with staying in tune). There is some fretting buzz slight palm muting during alternate picking may help. Guitar action (height of strings) needs to be adjusted low for shredders. Check my channel for some videos I used this guitar.
@loxoxer Maybe its the strumming, or how much distortion ur using, of course if u use all of it it wont sound good, but personally i dont have problems with my Gio, and it even sounds better than this one
How long have you been playing guitar? If more than 5 years, just go for a better guitar - Floyd Rose or Ibanez ZR II tremolo. No point replacing the pickups to Demarzio / Seymour Duncan or EMG on this guitar. For under/around $1000 some of the best you can get Ibanez's S420, S570DXQM, RG1570, RG927QM, Charvel Desolation DX-1 FR soloist, Schecter Guitar Research Hellraiser C-1 FR, Fender American Strat, PRS SE Custom 24, Yamaha PAC 611HFM, Kramer SM-1. Also check custom made Bacchus and Carvin.
i have one of these guitars, personally i think its a very good guitar :D (but then again, this is only my second guitar, the after my starter,) but there's only one problem i have with it which is the wammy bar easily falls out.
@onimusha514 Are you implying that the way i pick makes a huge difference at tones? I got a Marshall MG15FX and i can't really pick 2 or more strings at the same time when distorted tones are on. The sound gets messed up.
Ya know, ,for the $,, its not a Bad Deal. ..i just want the neck. ..to see how fine it can be levelled. .recrowned and polished up, ,see if i can get the action down under a sixteenth of an inch, ,,,then i'll build a Guitar around THAT
@svartsaft Not very good at all... Went to the music store where I bought it to get the bridge blocked. It was worth it, but still sad to lose the abilty to use the tremolo arm...
please help me ibanez grg170 or Cort x6 and why my friends say that Ibanez neck is more comfortable but other say that cort x6 jumpo frets and bluebucker pick-ups is better than the Ibanez one what is the pick-ups thatbIbanez use ? and which ones are better which one has a better playability? i am so confuse and as a beginner i need someone to help me? plaese i wanna make my decisions as fast as I can :/ thank you in advance
omar kop so,what did you buy? I'm planning to buy 170dx,because cort x is floyded and for me its pain because I'm just a beginner.BTW I've seen your comment on many pages already xD
See my reply to 1234567890nam. I would add that the basswood body should give the metal sound you need. There is a noticeable buzz. I remove the same using noise gate circuit from Behringer VAMP3 processor being a hobbyist (my taste is more melodic blues, classic rock, jazz not metal) but you can buy more professional processors and pedals if you are serious about playing guitar. For $250 price range extremely few guitars could beat it. It is the best beginners guitar I could find at the time.
I got this as my first electric guitar from my dad and oh my its old. realy old.
Around 10 years old and still amazing!
I highly reccomend

what is the best, ibanez grg170dx or Jackson js1 dinky?
@JonasBGuitar
I was thinking of doing the same thing, shame about the truss rod cover because you could fit a locking system
and what about metal sound? Is it good?
cool guitar?
is it for beginners? or good to start off with.
Maybe a little bit late, but yeah it's perfect for begginers and for intermediate players
