the man who could rhyme "knee deep in love" with "me deep in love" and make it sound natural - what a talent. This is my favorite song in the musical, it was added for the movie by Meredith Willson to replace that similarly themed, but much less successful white knight song. The acting in this scene by both of them is wonderful, too!
This song, I THINK more then any other in the film makes me tear up... Not only is it a hopeful message, but it’s also realistic... No point chasing the love of someone who doesn't love you back.
Shirley Jones describes how she got her first big career break at 20 years-old, when she went to an open audition in NYC that Rogers & Hammerstein held every two weeks. When the audition coordinator heard her sing, he got both Rogers & Hammerstein to come and hear her. Jones stated she wasn't totally sure who Richard Rogers was. They hired her on the spot. First was in the chorus in South Pacific. Then the understudy for the lead in Me & Juliette and then the star of the film version of Oklahoma, all happening in one year. ruclips.net/video/S6E_iJ6v7W0/видео.html
I'm old fashioned. I 100,000% completely understand what and how Marian feels about finding that certain, Special, SomeOne. And, occasionally he should ponder:"What makes Shakespeare and Beethoven great"?........ I totally get Marian's hopes, wishes, dreams of finding The Right man.
Shirley is perfect for this and what a great blend of the two songs. Beautiful
Shirley Jones couldn't be better in this role. No one else could be anywhere near as good.
This version is my favorite over the Broadway version. This one has more heart and more in line with what most women feel.
I love the lyrics, they're spot on for how I felt. I found him, too, 45 years ago.
Shirley makes it perfect, what a voice.

I agree... Though, I don't think I've ever heard the "White Knight" song... Is it from the broadway play?
@@TFZ. yes. And still.often used in stage productions of The Music Man instead of this gem even though the production is given their choice.
@@Marcel_AudubonThat's unfortunate... :'(
Great movie

That's exactly how I feel about this song.

In the original Broadway show the song here was originally called my white knight.
Personally I like this song a lot better.

I always thought in my heart that Marion was falling in love with Harold but she knew she had to be careful because she knew he was a con man.
I will be uploading a better quality version of this soon!
What is Shirley making in the kitchen
I think fudge, though it's hard to tell.
I prefer 'My White Knight' but this is ok.
