A lot of the "Ark of the Covenant" type adventure stories from Indiana Jones era comes from 19th and 20th Century insanity of European Elite, going around the world funding incredibly expensive archaeological expeditions to find God-men in Tibet or Giants in Palestine or Noah's Ark or Thor's Hammer or things of that nature. Eric von Daniken type of people are also from a bit later than this era, writing about Annunaki visiting humans to accelerate our evolution.
I've been reading about the German castle that "they" (trying to avoid RUclips filters) bought and were rebuilding before running out of cash and time, it's absolutely wild. I've barely scratched the surface, but there were ritual rooms, runes that we don't know the meaning of, and a bunch of other ceremonial and symbolic stuff. The black sun design is from there too, we don't know the origin of it. The castle was meant to be the "center of the new empire", and shaped like a spear or something? Been a while since I read about it. Perhaps most worryingly, it was meant to have a concentration camp right next to it. The only reason you would have one near a ceremonial site so important to you, that I can think of at least, is that you would need to ship in a lot of prisoners for.. ritualistic purposes? I haven't even began to read about their occult beliefs, but iirc there were some ancient religions tied to that general area too. It's kinda funny when Christians think they can be just like this, literally all most extreme, militant far-righters were and still are occultists. They hate Christianity as much as they do minorities. Azov Battalion is closely tied to few members of the obviously satanist Ukrainian black metal scene. I was talking to a friend about this, we kinda came to the conclusion that perhaps WW2 and the entire "death factory" concept wasn't just senseless hate, but a combination of that and some elaborate death cult that was hidden by the top brass, all of which we do know was occultist. No. The battle in Teuteburg forrest is a major L for germany, because it ment another couple of centuries of a developmental stage that can only be classified as "s*ting from trees". The backwardsness of that region is also the reason why the roman empire didn't bother regaining these territories, as evidenced by senate trancripts from before 9AD. The romans quelld insurgencies with regularity, even ones that were successful over prolonged periods if it ment holding regions of industrial importance that yield high taxrevenue and many tributes. Germany's history always was one of perpetual self-imposed Ls interspersed with short bursts of societal and technological advances after loosing wars. This one fits neetly into that pattern.
@@glass_knuckles It took me while to get what you mean. The roman self perception never was one of an tyrannical suppressor. That's too much work anyways. Inhabitants of conquered territories recieved roman citizenship, often on the day the battle was won. Sometimes regions where given relative independence with self-governance (depending on the time period). As long as the people of these regions payed their dues, other regions of rome will come to their aid in times of war, that was the promise of the pax romana. With that, the Roman empire was more akin to the european union or nato than a single country. They even saw immigration as a good thing, like "If they toil the land and pay taxes, we won't complain". Of course that doesn't mean that the senate didn't have racist dips*ts, but better spirits prevailed more often than not. There is even a famous speech from Cicero when the question of making the Galls (I beliefe) roman citizens came up (and thus giving them a seat in the senate), were he remined the other senate members that the roman history is a history of making enemies and foreigeners roman citizens.
@@glass_knuckles Now, as for the imperialism of europe in the 19th century (from the german perspective)... There were two groups in the german parliament at the time. Group A said Kolonies are a unfruitfull and needlessly expensive endevor and expanding the Kriegmarine (Navy) will probably only lead to a war. Plus, it's kinda mean. Group B had FOMO and thought imperialism is dope, actually. So naturally Group A was labeled as anti-german and politically persecuted. So they sucked at imperialism a couple of years and lost the war that resulted from it. Again: Self👏 imposed👏 Ls👏
