Projectors for Sewing - PDFStitcher and Quick Inkscape layout

- If you are using a layered sewing pattern in AO or projector format, I show you how to use PDFstitcher to isolate your desired pattern size, and do a quick layout in Inkscape, including unfolding pattern pieces, duplicating mirrored pieces, and organizing to use fabric most efficiently.
Edited to add (June 2, 2021): I forgot to mirror my sleeve in this video, oops! since it is asymmetrical, it will need to be mirrored before cutting. - Хобби
Note: I forgot to mirror the sleeve in this video. Don't be like me!
Thank. I aprreciate the pace. It makes it easy to see what you are doing and to follow along.
How do I give 2 thumbs up!? I watched this ages ago when I was looking at getting a projector. Now I have one! Thank you for the clear explanation of what seemed like a daunting task! 👍👍
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
Great info - thankyou so much!
thanks for watching, glad it was helpful!
This is perfect! I need to center a panel on a romper, and didn't want to risk cutting on the fold! Thank you!
Thank you. I needed this!
Great demonstration. Thank you. What is the difference between duplicate and copy in both Inkscape and Affinity Designer?
I’m not sure, I’m not very familiar with Affinity Designer!
Thank you so much for this!! i Had to watch it a few times and pause at certain steps, but I think I have a handle on most of it. I am at the stage where you created the rectangle to be the fabric piece, and running into a snag. First, it gave me a big blue rectangle that would cover up any of my pattern pieces. I used the fill and stroke properties to get it to be white with a black line, however, it's still covering up my pattern pieces, so I can't lay them on top of it. Can you tell me which settings I need to change? I did change the opacity to 0, but then it disappeared completely. Thanks again!
glad you found it helpful! For the rectangle, you should be able to select "no fill" (should be a box with a line through it) and then you'll be able to see your pattern pieces. otherwise, you can "send to back" of all the objects, but that can be finicky.
LOVE THIS! But is it possible to delete lines? ie I am making a romper, short pants, short sleeves and limited material. So now in order to fit it in the sleeve lines overlaps the pants lines. looks messy (I'm slightly OCD) - is there a way that I can delete the lines for the extentions to make it long sleeves?
you'd have to start breaking node paths and deleting the lines (click the nodes tool, click a node where the long sleeve starts just past the short sleeve, break path and then delete)
Wow!wow!wow! Thank you!
A very clear presentation, well done. For the first time I understand the advantages of this technique. Is PDF stitcher free?
thank you. and yes it is free - developed by a fellow projector sewist who is also a programmer! www.pdfstitcher.org/ . There is a spot on her website to contribute (either through reporting bugs or monetarily, to support future updates) here: www.pdfstitcher.org/docs/contribute
Good demonstration :) You forgot to flip the sleeve though.
gah! I've added a subtitle noting this...is there a better way to add this annotation?
@@NicoleCouch Only in the description, and pinning a comment with this information is also a good idea.
@@TechieSewing got it!
Thank you!! :)
Thank you!
Is it possible to select 2 sizes and then grade between and eliminate the unwanted lines to make it easier to use a projector and have the grading already done?
Yes, it is possible! I do it regularly. You’d be working with the nodes tool to break the path, break apart, and adjust the lines. (I just try to smooth out the transition best as I can)
