What a beautiful sound 😯. A colleague of mine put me on to Yellowjackets and I must say what a treat 🍰. Listening whilst at work, certainly takes the pain away! Did I say beautiful sound. Awesome 🎼. Thank you 🎵
I got to know the Yellow Jackets in the 80's. For my job, I traveled around in almost the whole of West-Europe. Always by car, as the job was technical service and suuport. During more than 30 years I listened to their music in my car. Never got tired of it. I found their music on "Soulseek", put it on a memory stick. I still listen to it , now I'm retired. And, of course the WDR band is also one of my favorites. A viewer in Belgium (Europe)
Thank you so much! This is fantastic! That's what I like the Yellowjackets for melodic and groovy and together with this great body of sound, of course, swingin'.
It’s just hard to beat the Yellowjackets for professionalism and creativity! Combine them with the WDR Big Band and you’ve got magic. The current lineup is one of the best in Yellowjacket history. Dean Alderson is the most melodic bass soloist they’ve ever had in my opinion. I’ve seen them live 3 times and they never disappoint. I was glad to see Will Kennedy rejoin the group: Best drummer in Yellowjackets history.
The late great Ricky Lawson was great with YellowJackets, specially for the music played at that period. Jimmy Hasplip will be forever the best YJ's bass player, you have to calm your excitation John. :-)
@@RogerBiwandu I’m not saying Ricky Lawson was a slouch; far from it. I saw him with the YJs on two occasions. I just prefer Will Kennedy was the drummer the first time I saw the YJs. I was very glad to see him return. As for Jimmy Haslip, he played a huge part in the formation of the YJ sound. It was, is Jimmy’s mechanical solos that I didn’t care for.. Even Felix Pastorius was a better soloist in my opinion. Dean Alderson, on the other hand, can maintain the same funky groove that Jimmy did, while delivering some scorching good bass solos. We all have our favorites; your’s are good and so are mine. Enjoy the music!
@@johnfuller8284 It's not about who's my favorite, my favorite musician on YJ is Russ by far, saying this I love all of them, but I like the respect of the history of a band, that's all. And, I don't need a bass player being a "genius" at soloing, it's good if he is, but I really don't care, I want a bass player to play the bass as solid as possible, with good taste, feel and sound, cheers John.
It's a beautiful thing to see and hear one of the greatest bands (Yellowjackets) still strong and amazing after 40 years! Cheers to WDR BIG BAND these musicians are DOPE!
The GREAT Russell Ferrante, he's SO funky when he plays "Imperial Strut", his left hand keeping that bloody bass line while soloing with his right hand, awesome !!! PS : not enough praise for him, he's the only one original member on stage, I mean come on, give some love to Russ please....
Superb concert, I wasn't intending to watch it all but I got hooked in. I didn't know the current line up of the Yellowjackets but new names to me were Will Kennedy and Dane Alderson who are both world class players. Great playing obviously from Russell and Bob.
Put this on in the Background while doing some office work, wondering why all songs sound so familiar - is that literally the Yellow Jackets XL Album in one take and live?? What the hell man, how can you not miss a single note!!! This is very much one of if not the best active band at the moment.
Beautiful. So BEAUTIFUL! Top tier Musicianship. All the Musicians 👌🏿 Rhythm section of Drummer Will Kennedy and Dane Adelson on Bass🔥 I wish all the names of the Musicians were included in the description 🙏🏿 Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤❤️
Back in the 80s the musician's union had a contact book with all the musician's contacts... lol duh. Anyway, I was a young musician and one of my favorite artists were YellowJackets. Charles Brown the musician who wrote and sang "Merry Christmas Baby" was teaching me to play piano along with Dorothy Donegan. After one of my lesson I was talking to Dorothy she was about to throw a box full of old sheet music. I asked her if I could have it and she gave it to me. Inside the box was an old musicians union contact book. I looked up Russell Ferrante's number and gave him a call. He answered and spoke to me kindly and invited me to the studio in SilverLake. I met him at his house in the hills of SilverLake and the one thing I really remember was his very fluffy cat was sleeping on the stove lol. I love cats and was saying, "oh no that guy could catch on fire". Anyway I met Ricky Lawson and Jimmy at the studio and watch them play for a short time then I had to leave. I love these guys and their amazing music. Good music is oxygen
Great show ... but this electronic thing is as annoying to hear as it is offensive Without this annoying and offensive electronic thing , this would have been epic It's still worth it , but a large part is annoying ... it could have been epic
