I brought my kids up listening to Jazz. Specifically the Yellow's, Spyro, Metheny, Weckle etc and they continue to listen and appreciate as adults. I tried to instill in them to have standards when listening to music. I told them " I'd rather listen to a good song for the thousandth time that a lousy song once".
Same haha my Dad made me listen to them when I was just in kinder garden back in the early 2000, and right now I'd say they are the band than inspire me the most.
this is where opinions definitely differ. Marcus Baylor was superb on the drums but William Kennedy is wide recognized as the greatest living jazz drummer today .and personally William Kennedy has evolved along with the Yellowjackets sound.....he's got the fastest hands I've seen since Carter Beauford of the Dave Matthews Band..
+Tony Newlon Baylor is not the same kind of drummer. He's normal, a bit shy and strict on time. Also drive sticks with fingers, changes everything. Kennedy has a stronger feel and commands of the skin. It lifts the band's sound.
The comparison between William and Marcus go on and on. Where ever you preference may lie I for one would be happy playing as well as either one of them. How about you?
Yes I also would be happy playing like either. However, as a drummer I do discern the difference between the 2 and that is Marcus is sort of like listening to an electric guitar without an amp. You can hear what's being played but it leaves you wanting more. He just doesn't have the power that Will has.
