I also wanted to buy a 40th Anniversary Custom 24, but for 8k there is nothing special except that it is limited to 400 guitars. I will buy another PRS on the second-hand market.
Yeah I was sort of interested but my local dealer told me they’re $6,850 here in the USA. I don’t feel like these are unique enough to be worth a $1300+ up charge over a regular 10-top.
Yes I feel similarly and nothing is really exciting me beyond all the news on the SE side which O think is great for the industry but not so much on my shopping list
Exactly, many brands seem like there's not really much left to innovate, prime example is Fender's new ultra models, great guitars but not a big step up from the previous generation. These days it seems many special edition guitars tend to target a small demographic with deep pockets just wanting something to add to their collection that sits on the wall untouched.
I might not have been in the market for one but it is always fun to see what PRS will come out with when it comes to the dragons or the other special editions. This dragon compared to the previous is just a little flat I agree.
Gibbon fans pay $20K just to get a Brazillion Rosewood fretboard on a Les Paul. They don't know what Ziricote is. They probably think it's like Richlite, as found on their Smart Wood guitars. 😅
I bought a Charvel MJ DK24 HSH 2PT this morning. I was going to buy a PRS DGT, but the Charvel just gives more for half the cost. Compound radius fretboard, stainless jumbo frets, heel mount truss rod adjustment, locking tuners, Luminlay side dots, etc. For me, the Charvel just fits all the requirements and the Japanese quality control is fantastic. Maybe one day I'll get a PRS.
Very much agree with you. As the owner of a 35th anny Dragon I am very happy I got it when I did because this 40th is as you say, disappointing. The fingerboard and coloring doesn’t make aesthetic sense to me, the inlay IMO is quite underwhelming esp compared to the 35th, I like the dirty finish but everything else - underwhelming is the perfect description.
I agree not many breathtaking guitars/updates so far from PRS. I'm actually looking forward to updates to their S2 line. It's more affordable USA made guitars and it's the only premium american guitar that I own so far.
I agree. I have a PRS CE 24 from Wild West Guitars. I bought it a few years back and it has a beautiful top and feels great. I paid under 3k. The PRS S2 10th Anniversary play very nice too, again under 3k. These new guitars are for people with money to burn.
I would tend to agree with your sentiments here. I have sold off most of my PRS in recent months, and have just held on to the special ones: Collection Series IV Brent Mason and a first edition (PRS Experience) Private Stock JA-15. Would recommend you trying a James Tyler guitar. Im not a fan of crazy colours, but i am a huge fan of their dann huff signatures (just ordered the huff original classic model).
I agree with what you are saying , the latest guitars are underwhelming , i have a core 594 with the low output pickups in flame lemon which is a great guitar i bought it when they first came out i also have an Australian eagle in the blue which they only made a total of 12 with the blue only 3 which is also a great PRS but sadly i don’t play them because the longer i live i realise i prefer a good fender telecaster for it’s simple playing and tone .
The dragon I agree, the color doesnt do much for me. But with a cool color yeah, its nice. The 40th anniversary seems the biggest thing is the new pickups. Colors yeah, also boring there and not my favorites.
I thought the exact same thing when I saw those two guitars. The dragon looks like they are trying to appeal to the Game of Thrones fans but that isn’t the buyers for this guitar. The inlay almost looks like a cartoon has an animated feel to it. That 2002 single cut is still jaw dropping. I’m afraid PRS has painted themselves into a corner so to speak. Their clientele buys traditional, but traditional doesn’t bring big money. Traditional guys won’t pay 20k for inlays so what do they do to make a guitar above what their custom shop guitar is?
Wish the neck and headstock were bound on the base model anniversary model. Looks so good PRS. Edit: Do we know who draws up the designs for the dragons? Same or different people?
Totally agree on the colors, I call these Old Man colors, any sunburst, the browns like this. I liked the Paul's 85 when it came out, but hated the color, so I never really bothered going after one. One thing I liked about the NF 53 was it's interesting black on white. Or give me an orange, purple, green, heck even red or blue any day over one of these browns. I would personally love to see a PRS headless guitar, but that's probably the *last* thing Paul would ever try!
Better off going for handmade custom guitars these days if you want a good character unique guitar. Charles Cilia in Australia is by all reports extremely good.
You forgot to talk about price.. the custom 24 is €8,400 that's €3,000 more than a 10 top with nicer (hybrid hardware)! and why is the bridge pickup upside down?
@ I was fortunate that this guitar was recently displayed at the Musical Instrument Museum here in Phoenix, Arizona so I was able to see it again and got a coffee mug there with 2 dragons displayed so I see it every morning now 😂 my favorite mug
Cmon they're not too bad, I have a PRS custom 24 from 2009 and its quite good except for the rotary switch for pickup changes. It looks great and the finishes are fab, but it is still hanging on the wall or in the case as my Ibanez and Fender strats are my preference. Are the "special" PRS's worth the money, no.
I totally agree, when I saw it I thought: Uuhhm...I don't know.... I mean, I don't have the money to buy it either, but this year I've seen better private stock than this one, in my opinion.
Those Pee-Arris guitars you talk about are illegal to import into my country. The origin of the timber, while fine for america, is a real problem where there are actual laws instead of guns.
Its kinda weird they used a European inspired dragon but its reversed from right to left like a eastern inspired design. I would have prefered an eastern style loong dragon in the yakuza tattoo style shooting down the neck like your summoning and shooting it off the fretboard, and it isn't crawling up to burn your pick hand.
The 40th anniversary custom 24 is way overpriced in my opinion for a custom 24 10 top. With no extra features other than pickups, headstock and the 40th truss rod cover. Honestly, if you want a 10 top there's good deals online at reverb or other places nowadays. That's where I got mine and was glad I didn't pay extra 1500+ for it
I fully agree. The 35th had something different going with the switching layout . This is too similar . And yes you can get a used 10 top at incredible prices
PRS in my humble opinion is so overrated!! Every time I try one I am so underwhelmed!! Gibson has not come out of their quality slump either. Bought a $3,300 Gibson Les Paul, Slash model in April of this year….by June, I was having some mayor finishing issues. Gibson washed their hands and blame it on me! Never buying a Gibson again in my life! As a matter of fact sold all my other Gibson guitars. You want an awesome quality guitar that plays great and it’s great finish and quality?! BUY A HERITAGE GUITAR 🙌🏻👍🏻 Forget the rest!
Here WE GO 💰💰Anniversary Custom ...💰💰. Custom Shop ...💰💰. Artists Models💰💰 ALL ADDS UP TO ""LETS CHARGE AN ARM AND A LEG for these guitars !!! I SAY >>> KEEP EM !!!!!!!!!!!!!👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
I came up with a new name for your channel "Ministry of PRS"
I actually like the dragon. Looks classy
I also wanted to buy a 40th Anniversary Custom 24, but for 8k there is nothing special except that it is limited to 400 guitars. I will buy another PRS on the second-hand market.

I think it’s not just PRS; all the big guitar makers seem to be floundering at the moment, even Fender.
The release the exact same guitar every year but with knew knobs and vintage-inspired random part
Yes I feel similarly and nothing is really exciting me beyond all the news on the SE side which O think is great for the industry but not so much on my shopping list

Not so, Hello Kitty reissue!
@ 🤷🏼♀️
You need to do a video on the new KANAMI signature! Way more hyped for that than either of the 40th models.
By the looks of this video he already dissed her 😮
Good plan, he did do a reaction video❤ for the Kanami signature guitar
We need all white PRS CE-24 Pearl White or Silver with binding from 00s which had a thick carved top . These tops of today are too flat
I might not have been in the market for one but it is always fun to see what PRS will come out with when it comes to the dragons or the other special editions. This dragon compared to the previous is just a little flat I agree.
This is not an istrument, its like a super expensive art piece. Nobody will play it live, few chords and back to the case/wall.
'I wouldn't pay $ 20,000 for an inlay' pretty much says it all.
💰💰💰💰👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
That digitally cut also

Are you one hundred percent sure that those frets are stainless steel? I’m not seeing anything to suggest nor confirm that particular spec.

Underwhelmed! Exactly what I felt when I saw this dragon and anniversary model. I expected for something more spectacular
Having so much inlays over the fretboard maybe PRS is saying it without saying it that Wood on the fretboard really does not matter??
I felt the same way. I am glad i bought the DGT semi-hallow. And did not wait for 40th anniversary. Which i was saving up for.
The DGT semi hollow is a great guitar
I agree. I have a PRS CE 24 from Wild West Guitars. I bought it a few years back and it has a beautiful top and feels great. I paid under 3k. The PRS S2 10th Anniversary play very nice too, again under 3k. These new guitars are for people with money to burn.

My friends love James Tyler. I’ve tried them as well. Very impressive instruments
Have you ever played a PRS graveyard II? Those guitars have always intrigued me, especially when you deep dive how they were made
I have one. You can find it on my channel in multiple videos . Just run a search .

The 40th anniversary seems the biggest thing is the new pickups. Colors yeah, also boring there and not my favorites.
I remember seeing the first dragon on 48th St. in Manhattan for $10k. These must be a steal.
Quick! Get him to the hospital!
Haha
I'm already in my 40s and my next PRS is in Bonnie Pink!
I thought the exact same thing when I saw those two guitars.

It’s the guy behind the Dungeons and Dragons dragons . Btw I like binding too. Check out the 25th and 30th anniversary custom 24s

It’s on the list just after the core 7 string
Couldn’t agree more! Very disappointed. I’m surprised at how little imagination they’ve shown with this.
Better off going for handmade custom guitars these days if you want a good character unique guitar. Charles Cilia in Australia is by all reports extremely good.
I had a Cilia for a while. A very modern build . Didn’t bond with it and ended up trading it for an Ibanez uppercut
@@ministryofguitar Ibanez? You? Today you have made me happy ❤️❤️❤️❤️🤭🤗👍
😂😂😂
You forgot to talk about price.. the custom 24 is €8,400 that's €3,000 more than a 10 top with nicer (hybrid hardware)! and why is the bridge pickup upside down?
You have a very fair point on pricing
This dragon is the Harley Benton version, but the most expensive one..... 20k.
I’ve played that 2002 Dragon. In 2003 Paul told me it was worth 30k. Interesting to see a 2020 model retail for so much less.
Yeah I have wondered similarly. I really want to try the 2002
@ I was fortunate that this guitar was recently displayed at the Musical Instrument Museum here in Phoenix, Arizona so I was able to see it again and got a coffee mug there with 2 dragons displayed so I see it every morning now 😂 my favorite mug

I bought a Custom 24-08 35th anniversary this year for € 3300 on ebay in mint condition. It's perfect.
That’s a great buy
It's a dirty colour on the dragon alright...I'd call it turd brown!
Lol
Its kinda weird they used a European inspired dragon but its reversed from right to left like a eastern inspired design. I would have prefered an eastern style loong dragon in the yakuza tattoo style shooting down the neck like your summoning and shooting it off the fretboard, and it isn't crawling up to burn your pick hand.
All aesthetics. Never connected with PRS. Maybe being an empath, I feel the man.
Seriously $4,700 for a Custom 24 ???? what a joke....💰💰💰💰👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
165 is big run for the price…
Theres not many more modern things they can add to the electric guitar.
Look for Variax guitars - you can add even much more to an electric guitar
The colors are underwhelming
Beautiful guitar, just not worth the price tag imo

I heard other PRS disappointment from you before.

$20,000 I Wonder what the PROFIT is ???? would Love to know ....Or maybe not...🤣🤣🤣🤣
Who the hell cares !
Collectors, that's who.
PRS: the man, and the guitars - both horribly disappointing.
It must be nice to have so much money to waste on overpriced crap.
Prs good made but not good for resell n doesn’t retain value haha
That dragon is a horrible looking guitar 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Don’t worry they sold out anyway
