    I’ve played guitar for 54 years. I have played pretty much everything over the years. I have a 1993 PRS EGII/3. While I have more expensive ones …. this USA built model has the most play by a significant margin. Although worn significantly the stainless steel frets and PRS hardware hasn’t been replaced. This guitar has been through so many bar gigs and even a girlfriend fell on it once and she wasn’t tiny. There is much wisdom in your recommendations in my experience. Great video

    Starting performing in 1967 with a secondhand ‘64 Sunburst Strat, then got another secondhand guitar, ‘61 355, then another secondhand ‘68 Custom Tele a few years later. A couple amps, a few pedals gigging most weekends for over fifty years and never needed anything else except a ton of strings and a few refrets.
    But apparently this generation needs dozens of guitars, modelers, six foot pedal boards, walls of amps and production equipment to play in their bedroom.

      Haha love this statement. I think 'need' left the station long back. It is all about 'want'

    • @1964vintage
      @1964vintage 21 час назад

      @ yes you are exactly right. Definition is everything.
      I am guilty of ‘wanting’ my guitars, I like most wanted the guitars my heroes played. But it’s also the same reason I realized I only needed 3 guitars throughout my career.
      I have been very fortunate to see some of the greatest legends of guitar play in live shows and in their prime. Including Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, Gary Moore, Albert Collins and the 3 Kings BB, Albert and Freddie.
      What struck me the most when watching them in live situations is they don’t change guitars very often, maybe a string break or for a specific song. Like most of the greats they are synonymous with playing one type of guitar throughout most of their careers.
      I find guitars incredibly beautiful objects and have at times been tempted to buy certain guitars because they looked good. However it’s their function that attracts me the most, not their form.
      They are defined as musical instruments but to satisfy our want to be individuals they come in many forms and that suits a need as well.
      We need variety, potential and change in all things. Music itself is defined as just ‘noise that is pleasing’ yet styles and types and never ending.
      I’m retired now, but still play most days. Purely for personal pleasure and the odd get together with the old band mates.
      My sons will pry the guitars from my hands when they put me six feet under. They ‘want’ them, always telling me they are ‘vintage guitars’ ‘collectibles’ ‘highly valuable’. All definitions they believe fit the guitars.
      I just know them as old guitars that served me well over all those years. They fulfilled a need to expressed the music within me and I am grateful they did their job.
      For it’s the music I am proud of and the music will always outlive the instruments.

    A year ago I bought an American Pro 2 strat and now I'm selling it. I'm still playing my Mexican tele (which I bought in 2010 for 400€) a lot more than a strat which cost about 2k. I always wanted a proper American stratocaster but for 2000$ it should be flawless and it's really not. I can't believe they didn't put CTS pots in it but some cheaper ones. The volume pot broke after just 6 months. And it's not just that. That guitar just isn't good enough.
    I was gonna buy a DGT SE but I found a great LP Jr. But next time I'm in the market for a guitar I'm buying a PRS! Either a DGT SE or a Silver Sky SE. I still need a strat in my arsenal, or something like it. I also like CE 24 SE in satin or the new sandblasted version which looks fantastic!
    Paul is killing it lately. Their pricing is amazing and guitars that are between 500-1000 are on par or even better than American Fenders and Gibsons.
    Sorry for a long comment. Loved the video and you have a new subscriber :)

    • @ministryofguitar
      @ministryofguitar  2 дня назад +1

      Yes and no . A setup helps tremendously. But the tolerances that you get in a high end manufacturing process enable action and intonation tremendously. Not to mention, how resonant a guitar feels (forget sound for a second) really depends on the quality of wood and how well it is dried

    • @GCKelloch
      @GCKelloch 2 дня назад +1

      @@ministryofguitar Any guitar can be plek'd for ~$250 to have perfect fret work and action, and neck edges can be easily rolled.
      Granted, wood quality does matter for stability, and damping characteristics, but baking wood can cover that, and it's become common from some guitar part suppliers. There's only so much that will affect the sound of an electric guitar. IMHO, anything over ~$1.5k (made with decent quality and possibly baked woods) these days is more about prestige and looks.
      BTW, you do know resonance drains string energy? The most sustain would be from a completely rigid structure that does not resonate at all. That's what Les Paul was going for, but I prefer something resonant as well that softens the highs and absorbs some midrange. I find Limba a nice body wood for that.

    Hi. The videos on RUclips, your latest videos, have been like a breath of fresh air, but we are back to the same thing. PRS.
    Too bad. And let's face it, you become a salesman. Little by little. And the information is from a web presentation. And not from a musician who tests instruments in depth and really compares.
    The channel at the beginning had a certain hook. "Ministry of guitars" and not PRS.
    Now my opinion about that brand. They are not really interesting guitars for work as a musician on a day to day basis. Nice? No doubt. I have seen one in a video and what a beautiful guitar it is. But I will not spend that money (2500 euro) - if I get the same or even better quality with brands like Ibanez, Scheckter, Cort and more manufacturers. And PRS at the electrical or electronic level are nothing special. I tell you that as a technician.
    Sometimes I think that a little bit more knowledge in physics would help many people save a lot of money 😏
    My wish? Less PRS, less advertising, less marketing, and more diversity in guitars.

      The electric guitar tonewood concept will die a very slow death. You can explain the physics to people, but a certain percentage will either not understand or not *want* to understand
      For many they somehow equate the unplugged sounds of an electrical guitar to the plugged in sounds, so if one ‘resonates’ unplugged better than another they think the tonewood is making a difference.

When Heritage first started, they kept the prices low, while Gibson was suing and censoring Heritage Guitars in magazines like Guitar Player, they knew Heritage was a MUCH better guitar! Heritage kept a few of the Gibson luthiers and stayed in the original Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, Mich., of course Gibson moved to Nashville. Now people who play and try Heritage Guitars KNOW they are a MUCH better Gibson style than Gibson's maybe ever were! The u.s. is collapsing, our media constantly lies about everything, food and life's essentials are getting WAY too expensive, used products, like guitars are coming down bc Americans still can't afford to buy used instruments while horrible people are charging CRAZY amounts of money for a new instrument, it's crazy and wouldn't surprise me if guitars are used as firewood to stay warm VERY soon! The u.s. is done and take a good look at the crash of 1929 and you will get a glimpse what EVERY American economist from Peter Schiff to Richard Wolff including the IMF world bank all agree on! The music business like the u.s. in general is a whorehouse with pimps running the show into the outer limits while Americans are worrying about a future that doesn't seem to exist!

      Funny how you missed the point of my entire post. The character of my guitars is coming from the pick ups, the scale length stuff like that. It was right in front of your nose. Perhaps you think that the word “character” is a synonym for “Tonewood”, in which case you need a dictionary.

      @@NoBSMusicReviews funny how you are talking about “soul” and “character” of guitars. The abstract and absurd things like these makes me chuckle. I am also not into tonewood BS and paul reed is a douche for sure. I am not justifying absurd prices. Just pointing out the hypocrisy.

      Your ego is impressive. There is no hypocrisy here. Pointing out that a guitar has “character” means that it has specific attributes that one finds attractive or that one resonates with. This can happen with handmade instruments and even with mass produced instruments. You could take three guitars right off a production lines one after the other, and each would feel different. That is what we call “character”.
      I appreciate that you are incredibly insecure and need to feel right, but you are only making a fool out of yourself.
      Of course guitars can have character. That doesn’t mean they have character the way human being does. It means they have specific characteristics that make them individual and unique.

    PRS headstocks look like can openers, Paul Reed Smith is an a$$hole and alot pro players say they have no character, why people refer to them as dentist guitars.
    I have never owned one but have played a few they were ok but nothing spicial.
    Better oprions out there in budget and high priced guitars in my humble opinion.

      PRS's really do lack character. Fancy, expensive, and I cannot stand playing them. And yeah, PRS himself is a fucking load about tone wood, with his absurd straw man arguments. My favorite guitar is an imperfectly-made-in-Indonesia St. Blues 61 South that I bought used for less than $500.00. In fact ALL of my electrics are under $1200.00 And most are under $500.00
