At school, I think we made a similar item of what your describing. We called them penetrators. Get it? We took out the ink cartridge and flipped it so it came out of the back of the pen. Next we either got rubber bands or the built in spring and attached in a way so that when we pulled the back of cartridge and released it would 'fire.' They were extremely lethal. After one or two were made, the whole grade caught on so we went to the shops buying the items needed to make them.
One day we had a relief teacher, an old lady with a temper. Some idiots started firing the ink cartridges at her, thankfully missing, but hit the data projector screen instead. They got caught, and the teachers did a search of our bags and pencil cases, one kid had an assembly line in his bag for mass production. So, yeah that was grade 8 for me. We didn't have school shootings, we had penetrators.

The best pens are the ones you can take apart to turn into cannons.
Just put the spring between the button and the cam and hope the pen has some sort of lip that the cam fits behind but can be pushed past with enough force.
The Pilot pens seem to be the best for this, but you'll need to do extra modifications if you don't want your parts to go missing.

Thank you for making this video. I’ve always wondered about this, before I saw this, I thought that maybe it had two cams and each cam was the same kind of cam that’s converts the linear motion on a steam locomotive. I thought that the button press moved the cam, which converted the linear motion into rotational motion, and that that rotational motion turn a wheel whose rotation was restricted to one direction via a ratchet, and the movement of that wheel was attached to a second cam, which converted the rotational movement back into a linear movement. But I was always dubious of that, because these pens never get jammed. So thanks for clearing that up.

Probably the only thing I knew as it's the only thing I tinkered with because of school boredom.

Could you, please, make a video on how the twist mechanism of mechanical pencils works?
I have seen some videos that explain the clutch mechanism,
but I haven't seen any video that explains the screw based mechanical pencils.
    Thanks
