I just bought a Gibson SG Special like in this video but in black. I bought it from Sweetwater. Its a great guitar. The lack of an ABR bridge takes some getting used too - but that is mostly psychological/visual - I gigged with the guitar last week and never even thought about it. Also the wrap around bridge really does help with tuning stability - this guitar stays in tune as well as my Fenders and USA Schecters (Unheard of for a Gibson!) All that aside the guitar takes some getting used to but it absolutely performs and is addictive! I recorded with it with my band today and its obvious what a nice sound and punch the P-90s provide, I highly recommend this guitar but give it a couple of weeks to become familiar with it and to fall in love...its not an immediate crush...but a relationship you will cherish!
Just wanted to say thank you. Thanks to this video, I got this guitar. It is amazing. All your videos are must see, great demos. By far, this is the definitive review video of this guitar.
@@freddieforbes5508 Sweet! Choosing between this and the TV Yellow Les Paul Special right now... Got a link to your song? I'd love to hear it, if you feel comfortable sharing it? (I'm a writer, so I know how annoying it is when someone asks to see something before it's done... sorry. LOL.)
I was on the fence about this or a Standard. Played both, loved both but this video made up my mind, going with the Special in Pelham blue. Great addition to my Gold Top P90 Standard. And your playing is sick. Love it man. Subscribed.
MASSIVELY GOOD SOUND HERE, RICH! I LOVE that Guitar! What a standout piece of work - I have to get one of those - Isaid that once before - when I WATCHED YOUR Fender "Telecaster player plus in Cosmic Green review - I was right then!, and believe I am right now! Your playing on this review, is, in my humble opinion, without equal! You NAIL the guitar tone that others only dream of! Ha!, Ha!, You should be on tour, Man! That's all I can say, Dude! Keep 'em coming! It's a priviledge to be in the audience! Muchos Gracias! , or, more appropriatly, as we say in Canada, " Merci Beaucoup! Rock on!
I got mine in Sparkling Burgundy a few months after you posted this. Wanted Pelham Blue but the one I got came available used at $950 and I snagged it. Though I love my Strat and LP, this one is my go to. It inspires me. Who would've thought over a year after posting this, we'd still be talking about Covid-19. Hope you are well. Love the content!
I just got one in ebony last week (long story - a few years back I had a 90s Junior in ebony with the P90 I wound up selling because of a bad decision - it was the best sounding guitar I ever owned) and I’m just ecstatic. It has THAT sound, if that makes sense.
I got one on order..this demo made me super happy and excited about what to expect!! Great demo as you used distortion which to me totally gives the textures you need to hear in order to make a proper educated decision on what to purchase or not!!
You, as I have, might consider and purchase the Epiphone model. I have not received it yet, but the Guitarista RUclips channel compared 3 SG models, and the Gibson and Epiphone pickups match pretty close.
I love that color! SG isn't my favorite body style (although you can't help but play AC/DC-style licks on it!), but they sure play nicely. Alas, it's just a pipe dream for me, as well...
I need some Pelham Blue in my life. I have a 2017 SG Special with Mini Humbuckers. I love it. But, yours sounds better. Oops, I wrote this before I found out you didn’t own it, yet. Sorry. It sounds amazing!
Rich Bischoff I was gonna look into the Epiphone Les Paul Special but found a great deal on the Gibson version. But, I have been looking at the Epi version of the SG Special with P-90’s.
I'm looking for a second electric guitar to complement my telecaster, and I keep coming back to the SG Special. I know it's not the most logical choice, but I love the sound so much.
Rich awesome video and outstanding playing and sound! What amp and pedal (if any?) Are you using? As a longtime SG fan (have a 1994 Standard in heritage cherry all stock I bought new) always wondered what one with the P90 pickups would sound like. Well I tried one out in the LGs and going against my better judgement I bought it! Same exact one as you're playing. Loved the sound of the P90 pickups and just the great ergonomics that the SG has and playability, that and the beautiful Pelham blue color didn't help either, LOL! I hope you get one someday. Thanks for the wonderful video.
Brilliant and beautiful!!! I bought a new one last week and I’m not an idiot, but I can’t keep this thing in tune. So I can either send it back or I do something about it (losing all my rights to send it back and ask for a refund). My eyes fail me a little, so I wasn’t sure, but I thought I could see that you have an upgraded wraparound bridge on your SG. Is this true and if so, what is it? Because in my heart I really want to keep this guitar. The SG is my first guitar love and precisely 40 years after I missed out on a beautiful second hand SG, I finally have one. AND…. I finally have a guitar with those wonderful sounding P90’s. I’ve never had those before. And I love that sound. So really, I want to keep it. But I only want to play guitars that I can intonate properly and that stay in tune for the best part of a whole 1,5 hour gig, using a set of .011/.048. So please tell me, what bridge do you use? Great playing btw. ❤
I think there needs to be a new rule when you demo one of these very elite guitars - you sound like a pro on anything you play; to be fair to the viewers, you should invite some amateur hack like me to come play it so they can hear how it really sounds. :D
Nice "Working Man"! This song was getting some radio airplay (after it was first released) when I had my first "real" full-time job working the night shift. Saw Rush open for Styx in Duluth, MN , then saw them 2x in St. Paul. Still can't hear well.
This video instantly made me subscribe, I mainly own fenders and want to get an Sg and Les Paul. Trying to choose between this one and the 62 standard reissue, mainly play blues and some classic rock. What would you suggest?
Meant 61 reissue not 62 and I was leaning more toward this. Also I was going to get the humbuckers for the Les Paul therefore I have different pickup options between the two. Thanks for the quick response and I look forward to the rest of your videos!
Nice sounds. I’m planning on getting the new worn green epiphone sg with P90’s. I hope it sounds that good. And who can go wrong with Working Man. One of my all-time favs.

Big difference from my last 2 wives. Yeah mines not too bad either but toyed with the idea of clamping a vice grip type thing on it just to see if it made a difference in the tone as well as the neck dive
I love this guitar but I got a rocknroll relic and the neck was so far off to my left. It was just very uncomfortable and although I’m still a young guy I have issues on my right side with my muscles and it was just bothering me so I sadly had to sell it. It played like butter too. Two P90’s. Slightly relic’d. But I like this color way better.
This is in the sweet spot. Enough that you have to want it for a coupla' years before you can swing it....but still, nowhere near like ales Paul standard or something!! I truly believe i might be able to stop my guitar aquisition for a few years at least, by getting this...
