Wow. I didn't realise you could get this kind of range out of the orchestra setting. I had always felt like it sounded more like an organ than an orchestra when I used it but the way you're playing makes it sound more like there are different instruments even before you switch to the different settings. I'd better go and explore this more.
Been thinking about getting one of these to use on bass. Not all modes are useful or sound good on bass. the ones that are, would be cool to have available as option(s).
I have this pedal and can say it does an excellent job of emulating that beloved Melotron effect from the late 60s. The orchestra and choir settings are indeed very atmospheric in a cinematic way. I like how you can blend it with your dry signal to fatten your natural guitar sound in a retro way... It can be subtle if you want it to be.
It's funny because I just bought the Mel9 and have already started getting full swing of its quirks and studying orchestral music, I can mimic a lot of that. Then I thought, I need an Ebow. Picked one up a few hours ago. Then I saw the Game Changer Plasma pedal and I thought... MINE, MINE, MINE (they have a rack version that I have on order). What's missing in Mel9 is a MIDI programmability because throughout my composition I keep changing the dials. I'll never be able to play this thing live. For reverb, I use my Axe FX III though. Oh, and a word of wisdom here. The Mel9 sounds best with a compressor before it. I tried without it and it's very difficult to tame. Compressor makes it perfect. I got the "Ultimate Comp" little tiny blue thing. Also, keep the Mel9 on an isolated circuit or I guarantee you'll get some popping sound that makes it hard to work with.
@@AmbientJoe just did subscribe man I'm going to buy one of these probably today lmao 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 your stuff sounds like Tangerine Dream idk if you ever heard of them.
Great clip! Serisouly soooo beautiful. I also have a Mel 9 Pedal and love it. I am wondering how exactly you are using the Jamman here? How did you create a seamless drone? Did you just record a single pass to create a drone initially and then just solo over it?
Ambient Joe - i was wondering if you could recommend a loop pedal? I have looper functions on a couple of my delay pedals, but it seems like having a dedicated looper would be cleaner - and hopefully, work better as well. Any thoughts? Thx!
@@Michlandir I likey Jamman Delay but they're hard to get hold of now. It depends on your budget. The Boss RC300 is pretty epic and powerful. I would recommend however the Digitrch jamman Solo XT as you join two together and loop them/synch them. I've not tried it myself however.
Thanks for the comment. Im using looper pedal and moving through the chord. One note at a time then a melody with delay and reverb. The key is volume pedal, reverb delay and a looper.
The cello sounds very good to me when played on a bass. The main problem is avoiding volume surges and dips. I haven't really used other sounds with the bass.
+mickey_blue_eyes I have mind at the verse start. I have an octave pedal going into it too and I used to have a room verb after it. I have tried splitting the signal also and having the room verb on the effect line only and my guitar signal as normal. That was nice. Thanks for the comment.
just got mine. One question : have you noticed any hissss kind of noise out of your amp since you've been using the Mel9? I got this issue...If I switch on an overdrive, it is getting even worse... Maybe it comes from the fact I'm using a common power supply for all my pedals...
Aveyroad _ hmm if the hiss gets worse I'd say it's an amp issue. Are you use valves if so look at changing them. Maybe move it in the signal chain, try it on it's own. Try different cables too. Hiss and buzz sounds are normally, interference from something. Cold solder on pots or pick ups. Lack of grounding. Bad cables. It's a massive process of elimination. Try swooping guitars or amps. Hope that helps. Like and subscribe my friend.
I tried several amps with the same issue. noise is only when I use EHX stuff. I had the C9 once, sold it because of that. now the prpblem comes again with the mel9 whch I dont want to sell. I will try to use it with its own power supply tomorrow and see hat it does...thanks for your answer anyway ;)
+Alonso Cisternas oh yes. I've done some videos about that feature. I have not used it on the Mel9. I thought you meant the Mel9 had a feature I did not know about.
Is it just my Mel 9 or do they all wildly fluctuate in volume on separate notes. This pedal is extremely frustrating to record with? As far as I am concerned this is only a beta version that should not have been released to the public.
use a compressor before the Mel to even out levels between notes. This pedal is pretty hard to tame . It also needs a full range speaker system to bloom. Guitar amps are out of the question since they are projecting the mel in a strident, harsh way
someone forgot to edit the beginning...
wish I would have seen this sooner haha. What is the advantage to a passive volume pedal over an active one?
+Pyriscent Music i presume less interference man
its an ambient beginning
Pyriscent Music :: I have a passive pedal. It’s a Donner viper. Works fine for me.👍
It's called a fade-in. Jeesh, ambient beginners
This pedal is brilliant for Ambient Violin Looping. Highly recommend. I use it on all my tracks. Great review.
Couldn't resist adding my recent video of how I use the Mel9 for Ambient sounds. Hope ok to post..

Yeah not to worry I'll check it out later and have a listen
Sounds great.I recently purchased a Mel9 and I LOVE it.
I have one so cool I wish they would had them in the 70 s
Have you seen the synth version? Turns your guitar into an 80s synth Machine. Insane
This video pushed me over the fence. I just bought the Mel 9. Most expensive pedal Ive bought yet.
Sounds like something from division bell.

+David Field I'm a big fan of it too. Thanks for your comment.
Thank you! So far your demo my favorite demo of that pedal on RUclips
+toddpepling thank you so far this is my favourite comment on this video hahaha please leave a like and a subscribe
toddpepling :: Mine too!!!
My dream team: Mel 9 + Game changer audio Plus pedal + Ebow + bigsky reverb
Sounds like a good combination of pedals. Stick in a delay pedal for good measure
I have this pedals that you described and I have the superego too. It has more options than the Plus pedal.

geting mine tomorrow!
Have fun! I'm hope you enjoy it, it's a fun pedal
Wow this is amazing! I need to get my Mel9 out and experiment!
Go for it and have fun :)
so good ..
excellent playing man! Love this kind of guitar music
Thanks man its nice to get comments. Subscribe for more. I've always like the idea of making my guitar sound like it's not a guitar
Considered a Mel 9 but went with a Superego Plus for the greater flexibility it offers. Can recommend it for fellow shoegazers.
Thanks for the comment. I've heard of it but never played with one.
Why not have both? Imagine a Mel9 into a Super Ego!!
@@antman2826 hey,buy it me and I'll show you all them working together hahahaha
Awesome
Thank you :)
This video is a resounding "yes."
joel rudnick hahaha thanks man. :)
Deeply ambient.
does this intro let you think of shine on you crazy diamond ?
choux maker reminds me of the start of FF7
This is great

From what I can remember there is a continuous drone running in the background and I'm using the Jamman delays. Thanks for the comments
Yes, it is.

When is your next video? :D Keep it up!

I have both. No regrets. Go for it
I'd like the Syth9. Doesn't fit in with ambient music but does seem fun to play with
Just got this pedal. I cant figure out how to get these sweet sounds, specifically that sustained string sound from the beginning.
Thanks for the comment. Im using looper pedal and moving through the chord. One note at a time then a melody with delay and reverb.

Uh oh Video Zillchh ah ah here we go lets recall what this thing does
Yes I agree. I'm not sure what you're saying but you are totally right.
But of COURSE!
Henry Lowman the audio speaks for itself don't you think? Pretty fantastic bit of kit.
Indeed! I use electric guitar, electric violin and electric balalaika through it!
Henry Lowman wow sounds impressive. I used it with my acoustic when playing live. Pretty amazing
How well does this work on a bass?
I've not tried. Maybe I'll look into doing a video
The cello sounds very good to me when played on a bass. The main problem is avoiding volume surges and dips. I haven't really used other sounds with the bass.
This is ace.... are you using a volume pedal?
yea I man. it's a Morley Passive volume pedal. Thanks for the subscription and the comment.
Where would you recommend putting the mel 9 in a signal chain?

Ambient Joe hi thanks for your reply do you have it after a compressor?
So would your signal chain would be: Comp - Octave - Mel 9...........?
mickey_blue_eyes if memory serves yes. My board is currently deconstructed lol
yes, directly after compressor is recommended.
way nice
Though I like what you are playing, Everything just sounds the same between each setting. IOW you played the flute like the choir.
Was sorta thinkin that myself. Kinda zoning off after 3 min of..whatever, and then forgot why I was here.. then commented, then Left.

Tried a strat, les paul, tele... all having same issue.
like your music by the way ;)
the reverb is in space mode?
+Alonso Cisternas you may need to elaborate a bit. What do you mean by space mode. I'm intrigued.
Ambient Joe. The bhringer revervb has a mode name space is like a shimmer or something :p
+Alonso Cisternas oh yes. I've done some videos about that feature. I have not used it on the Mel9. I thought you meant the Mel9 had a feature I did not know about.

Neil Aspinall I've used it live and had no problem. You can set a Max volume also depends on the dynamics of your playing.
Thanks for the comment
OK mine must be faulty then as the volume jumps make it almost unusable especially for recording.
+Neil Aspinall sorry to hear that man
