    I'm anxious to see the result of this project. I dig that lyre. The swoopy bridge is cool looking and I like the stag-shaped sound hole. I never really thought about some lyres being backwards of a harp but that's an excellent observation.

    I flip my left-handed strung lyre upside down because like you, I play guitar, and it seems more natural for me to have the lower strings closer to me than the other way around. Thank you!

    I specifically had questions about being able to play with my dominant right hand since this is a new quest for me and you answered that. I am not a musician by any means so I wanted to challenge myself gradually...maybe I will eventually tackle the one you play with your left hand. Thank you for speaking to this! Blessings!

    I'm loving all of these unique instruments! Now I'm stuck between this lyre and the chromatic kalimba haha. Do you think that 19 strings would be a good size for a lyre beginner or should I go more/less strings?

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 года назад +5

      I think 19 is a great size! 16 is good for beginners too. I probably wouldn't recommend more than 19 strings to start with though 😊

    I’m jealous…I have a turquoise one that is beautiful but it did not come strung so I’ve been trying to do that and tune it, and as a beginner, it’s not be easy. 😫

    I got one of these. But I'm trying to find out -- what are the specific notes for the strings? I want to be able to transpose regular sheet music to play on the lyre (and with other instruments -- thinking ahead to Christmas!) and can't find out how to do so.

    I love the green! Also! I do have a question. Just got a 19-string lyre but I’m finding a lot of players opt for a 16-string. Is there a way to adapt tunings for songs being played with a 16 string so that they can be played on a 19? Thank you so much!

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  2 года назад +6

      I think the 19 string lyre should have all the notes that a 16 string has, it just has 3 more in addition to those. So you should be able to play anything that works on 16 string on a 19 string 😊

  • @icegoddess1308
    @icegoddess1308 5 месяцев назад

    If you play piano, the low notes are to the left (towards you) and right (away from you) would be the high notes. So, the solid body would be right on for pianists

    There must have been a million of these made by dozens of companies. I have just bought a 21 string in this exact shape, color is different but is just like this one. I assume this is technically a left handed lyre as it is just opposite from the more common one of this shape that I call a right handed one. Can you correct me on that? Never played anything before so it's all new for me but I now have plenty of time to maybe learn in my retirement. :o)

    Can you play the same music as the 16 chord lyres?

    • @MusicalMollyKhan

      Yes! It just as 3 extra strings in case you need a bit of extra range :D

    I’m interested in getting a lyre. Which would you suggest?

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 года назад +3

      It really depends on what you're wanting to do! Chords are easiest on lyres with less strings. A meditative or improvisation kind of playing is easiest on a pentatonic lyre. And songs are easiest to play on lyres with more strings and range. Let me know what you're thinking and I can make some recommendations 😊

      Get a lyre with at least 16 strings where all the strings can be played from both sides.
      The Cega unboxed in this video has 19 strings but only 15 of them can be played from the other side by the left hand.

    Hi! I will love to get one just like yours in order to play with the right hand. I preffer a string distribution similar to the harp. If I want to get one, what should I do to actually get one distributed like yours, for the right hand with the higher strings closer to me? Thanks in advance :)

    5:09 I agree. To me, flat board kalimbas sound better than hollow body kalimbas. This is the only instance in which the "Hollow body sounds better than solid body" principle does not apply.
