13:36 The hose that is leaking has a hose clamp so it came loose! next to it there is a hose with a smaller diameter pipe sticking out. I would bet these two need to be together. Probably engine coolant (water?) as it looks to be an oil cooler. Copper hydraulic lines are mounted on it on the inside there is a spiral the case that coolant running through it. Please like so Bob sees this comment.
Love the patina. My uncle in south london had a new one in 68. He forged five pound notes and bought one and a house. Known as "The magician" because he was so good at it.
The material in the seat pads is often called "Horse Hair" because of the way it looks, but in reality its actually coconut husk fibers all pressed and glued together. Works extremely well, but it turns to dust after so many years!
There are so many things to comment on - and I am sure some may have already been addressed by other users. First of all, the cold start: To start the vehicle from cold, please depress the accelerator pedal once FULLY to activate the cold start meachanism. Release the pedal, then turn the key. Do not pump. Second, the overflow is petrol - so (as it has been observed by others) the float chambers of the carburetor need checking. Something is blocked there. Third: The window lifts. You cannot tackle the problem of slow window lifts by replacing the motors, they usually run well (the lifts go down), it's the cables (low voltage) and the chain. Check the videos of Ronny's garage. Fourth: Never use anything in the brake system than RR 363, even though the early cars (as yours) had DOT 3. RR 363 is basically a special DOT 3 with castor oil. You are on the safer side with RR 363 - it lubricates the brake pumps (could that the reason for your noisy pumps?). Fifth: The upper/lower buttons. You pull for quantity (completely pushed in: no air; first pull: little air and so on). For the aricon, always acitvate the big chrome ventilation switch to the right of the centre latch (with the little handle, beneath your switchbox) and open the latch, otherwise there will be no cold air. To defrost, close the "lower" button (push it in), turn the "upper" to full heat and pull it out completely (three clicks). Then shift the ventilation switch/bar to maximum. I want you to have maximum pleasure and minimum expense with this lovely car.
Thanks for the mention - happy to be of service! Great to see another enthusiast continuing the story for this treasure - enjoy the ride and keep sharing! :)
Hey Bob! Congratulations on your new acquisition! Sorry for late reply. Only just checked out your ep. Your leak is a fuel overflow. It’s nothing serious. The brass needle in your carbs will be stuck on one of your floats. Just open them up and you’ll see which one. Take the needle out, clean it up till it shines with some fine wet or dry and put it back together. They’re just designed to dump the fuel if this happens to prevent fire. Hope you’re having a great holiday and wishing you all the best for a happy and healthy 2024 from here in the UK..
Hi Bob Do some research before you clean that head liner. I think you'll find it is mohair and will require careful attention and cleaning with specific items. From memory it can be gently wiped with a lint free cloth with little soap and luke warm water. Wipe don't scrub or push. It should then be brushed with a soft natural bristle brush. Again don't scrub or push, if you tear it, it's basicly impossible to repair. Also unless the hydraulic system has been modified it should use a mineral fluid, not a dot 3 brake fluid. Windows, most likely not motors but voltage drop install relays in the doors and heavy 30A batt feed cable in to each door, to each relay set, use window switch just to trigger the relay. British wiring is a weakness "Lucas" was the prince of darkness lol. Lastly check the rubber diaphragm in each off the SU model carburetor, easy to replace, the dash pots on the carbs should have ATF in them for the ballast on the plunger, NOT oil. Cold start, key on 15 seconds two pumps direct to floor , then crank with no further throttle. If all tuned correctly should fire right up. Chokes can stick and not fully engage when throttle depressed, easy to fix for someone of your skill level. I kept a jar of Grey Poupon in the glovebox of my 1976 Pinto Wagon. There was a minute, when everyone was asking everyone if they had Grey Poupon. Yes, I was asked if i had any, and i pulled it out to show them, which usually dropped their jaws. It was the car that was the funniest part. Flat Black, no drivers door panel, leaked gas, holes in the floor... but i had condiments with the best of them.
Well done keeping this beauty with history on the roads! The Chippendale dash is exquisite, that was only offered in the 60's. I love American and British cars (I am Australian) and have both. My Silver Shadow is a 1976 (1A) with the chrome bumpers, I have wanted one since I was a kid. Every man deserves his dreams to come true. And it's not about cost or effort of ownership, it's about pride of ownership and giving these cars good homes to keep the legacy alive and well for all to enjoy. Further, we are not their owners, we are their "custodians" who take on the responsibility for the love of them. I really need to get some Grey Poupon from the States for my glove compartment - that ad is famous even here where we never even sold it.
You may want to watch the video series by Rolls Royce Nut from California, he is a Rolls mechanic and shows how to fix the slow window problem without changing the motors. I have a 1980 Silver Wraith ll with that issue. Kool car you have there.
My friend bought a 71 Silver Shadow in the late 80`s, Cost about 22,000.00 dollars. Months later needed 21,000 dollars for repairs. Jay Leno used to work on these. My cousin once had a vintage car dealer, he was able to fix those. I would think the best mechanics are in NYC.
Dear Bob: Another enjoyable episode on the 1967 Shadow. Keep at it. Zenith Motor Company in Independence, Missouri, restores and performs maintenance on these, and you are right; people ship the cars in from all over. My son works there and has educated me a lot about the cars. Once a person has a Shadow sorted and running, it's insanely important to use it frequently! No brand of car sits more that a Rolls Royce, and no brand of car does worse from sitting. So it is great to see you out using the car. You should join the R.R. and Bentley owners club (RROC) and head to Nashville, TN, next summer for the annual convention with either of your cool steeds! -Another Bob M.

Sending you my warmest regards from England. You look wonderful Jack, extremely sophisticated and I adore your motorcar that beautiful handcrafted Chippendale walnut, dashboard and picnic tables set this early series one apart from the other cars, truly truly exceptional.
Hey!! Mr Bob, love your videos,my Mercedes 2005 s55 has the same lift system for the suspension that works with the power steering unit, but I installed a spring shock system, because in the morning the car would be flat on the ground, but no more!!! Man love your car!!!!
Led are bad move. Don’t do that. I’m retired, I did a couple of jobs as sort of favour for company I did my apprenticeship. New vehicles had leds and oh boy are they trouble. Good old bosh filament bulbs. Stop up they’re getting difficult to get. 👍 Beautiful car, piece of Art.
I watch Gary Mavers you tube channel , a incredibly practical guy on his work for his cars. Your car is an early model 6,2 litre , whereas about 1971/2 they increased the capacity to 6.7 litres to lower the the compression ratio ( for emissions) etc . The early cars had more chrome , I particularly like the chrome details either side of the iconic grill. Also you have what is called the Chippendale dash, don’t know how it got that name but nice anyway. Keep her going ! Thanks for video . Love these cars.
The CarWizard does NOT know, repeat, does NOT know Rolls Royce! I have 7 shadows, including a 81 Corniche. Luckily, I work on my cars, and my friend is a retired dealer RR mechanic (42 years). As you mentioned, your 67 still has mechanical/cosmetic concerns! The best rule is to buy the best you can afford. Any $10,000 RR will likely need massive updates/repairs!!!!
The hvac controls for the full insert, middle 1. middle 2, full out is for air volume/air quantity . You can control the air velocity with the fan. Left/Right for Temp and in the In/Out for Volume of air. Then there is the per vent controls.
I'm in Birmingham , England and totally agree with you about Mcdonalds fast food ....The only food i will have is the Breakfast Meal,...a Bacon Roll with brown sauce and a hash brown and a coffee , the rest you can keep ...same with Burger king and KFC.....even subway is a no from me....As the shadow...prices over here for a good one range from £15,000 to £25,000 so i think it's about the same pricing over where you are ...over here a barn find is roughly £5,000 to £8,000
Wait a minute now....once you're 3 miles west of the strip on Sahara, it's fine. I used to live at Sahara and Rainbow. Nice there and just gets nicer the further west you go.
It's Gorgeous. Checkout the cig/joint lighters in the rear doors...now that's old school. Also, you should throw in an AGM battery and reprogram the ECU to adjust alternator output for proper charging...just kidding.
You may have air in the hydraulic lines, that ticking is typically the result of improper fluid level or air in the lines, very common on Citroen DS and other vehicles with hydraulic suspensions
Love your videos my brother Bob keep up amazing work proud of you the grind never stops what an amazing car rolls Royce love it god bless you have blessed rest of Wednesday my brother Bob ❤ I'll always support
I found a cutout from a magazine tucked into the giant binder of documentation and history that came with my '75 LWB Shadow about them sometimes being reluctant to start. On older cars, the fuel pump fires up and fills the carbs as soon as you turn the key, but on the Shadow it doesn't kick on until you're cranking the starter or when it's in gear. The recommendation was to put it in Reverse, then turn the key to "On" and wait about 10 seconds (or for the ticking to stop). Then turn it back off and put it back into Neutral or Park, pump the gas to set the choke, then turn the key to crank it over. I know mine struggles much less than it did before I started doing it this way. YMMV
All I needed to do was turn the key, wait 5 seconds, full depress the pedal to set the choke. Worked every time. Also keeping the battery switch in the off position as the electrons leak out something fierce.
I had a 69 SWB Shadow and the fuel pumps ran with just the ignition turned in. Depressing the gas pedal to the floor and releasing would set the choke and fast idle mode.
Bob I noticed the battery disconnect on the white Rolls. I got rid of mine and the car cranked much better. Voltage drop was occuring across that disconnect
You can get H1/H4 and H7 LED bulbs from Phillips/Osram for the non-Sealed beams LHD cars and they look proper. The fluid looks like water and could be from the AC condensation. Advise you to buy a handbook for the car :)
Bob, check out Harrys Garage channel. He has a RR just like yours that he semi restored and drove it somewhere very cold from the uk. I think the Antarctic. He also has an amazing collection of cars. Great video.
Bob you have a pretty car with a great history & glad to see your enthusiasm for your Shadow. Why not clean your Whitewalls instead of having graywalls🤪? Use SOS pads .V8 introduced in 1959 on Silver Cloud 2 series. & last were used in 2020 Bentley Mulsanne. I have the last year of the 5.0 Litre 6 Cylinder a Silver Cloud 1 & a 1989 Bentley Turbo RL .Wonderful cars & always a Special occasion to drive. Early cars like yours are more desirable than the later Shadow 11. No emission controls or catalytic converter , No rack & pinion steering rack to fail. Much nicer woodwork & you have the rear picnic tables that were not on later cars. Also you have the nicer Chrome Bumpers & later cars had rubber safety bumpers which are not as refined or attractive. I'm a big Gary Mathers fan too.
Terry I completely agree having owned 3 shadow cars. I think the earliest models are the best. Bob. You have a problem with your brake pump….it is far too noisy because it is worn. They can be restored by replacing the brake pump shaft and resetting it to the correct tolerances. People often think the ticking sound means the engine is no good….wrong….in your case it absolutely sounds like the brake pump…..which rides on the cam shaft, is either broken or worn. I’ve had cars where the tip of the brake pump shaft has snapped (particularly on early models) because it has a thin tapered shaft that weakens over time and snaps. RR later changed the brake pump shaft to be thicker so it doesn’t have a tendency to snap. I retro fitted the later thicker brake pump shaft to my 1966 and 1967 shadow based cars. Ran quietly after that
You are a lucky man Bob. I've been a huge KISS fan since I was 12 . I've been to 31 shows and I am happy for the guys in the band. They deserve a great retirement. I'm lucky because I've seen most big rock bands. But NONE of them could hold a candle to our boys in KISS.
Cool video. I have a 73.smells and rides like no other.150 hours into correcting my woodgrain.wallnut. Mine was cruely neglected. Water up to the top of the intake manifold. So i went 2JZ. But am going complete GM chassis and LS.
What you say about finding a mechanic to work on these is very true. There are very few guys in Orlando that will work on these. I only know of one, and he doesn’t accept many new projects. This is why I don’t have one (yet). Otherwise, I would had bought one years ago.
the S U carbs have an over flow pipe at the back under the motor when they over flow there is also one that over flows to the front into a charcoal filter near the air con condenser
exactly like you said, the hardest thing to find is a good rolls royce mechanic WILLING to work on the older cars. im in las vegas as well. i bought a 1996 silver spur with 20000 miles on it. beautiful car. can you tell me the name of your mechanic in las vegas that works on these cars?
FYI the bolt/ tool in your tool kit also acts as a replacement for the spirit of ecstasy (held in with a grub screw bolt through a hole in the back of the radiatior cover, with the bonnet up) for when you park in " rough areas".
600 amp battery seems small but that's what's in my silver spur 3 it fits into a space built into the floor of the boot so you you can't put a bigger battery in the car in my case....the v8 was used from 1958 in the silver cloud 2 until 2019 in the Bentley mulsanne...the chamber for the rr363 fluid there should be a sight glass on the side of the chamber...have fun in New York......
Tyler Hoover has a lot of that mineral oil at the car wizard for those old Rolls-Royce. Call Tyler Hoover or Car Wizard. They can advise you on this car.
These engines had SU carbs which do not have an accelerator pump and jet... so pumping the throttle will do nothing to enrich the mixture when trying to start the car. The carbs have a piston which is damped via a an oil bath in the dashpot., this enriches the mixture when accelerating.
Bob, years ago, I used to work on John Forsyth Rolls Royce at his house and his Cadillac and Linda Evens cars Mercedes and her Cadillac. When I moved to California. And John Rice a model on his Alfa Romeo convertible. I moved to Boulder City in 1994 and since just moved to northern Idaho...... If I was in Boulder City still, I would work on your car. On March 23, 2024, I'll be working the IPOF car show injured police officer fund. Come on out to veterans park in Boulder City, this year will have Erik Estrada from chips and Adrian Zmed from TJ Hooker show. We'll have about 400 plus classic cars, cars from movies. Code 3 parade with all the emergency vehicles, swat vehicles, K9 demonstration. Gonna be an awesome day...
slightly incorrect about the suspention: from 1980 they changed from RR363 to LHM fluid shared with citroen. (and its cheaper) these engines love to blow head gaskets as most people dont drive them and they blow from just infrequent driving.
She is beautiful, but did you say you put ATF in the hydraulic system? Isn't it supposed to take mineral oil? I know nothing, but I hear a lot about the Rolls Royce mineral oil situation. Waiting for Car Wizard to chime in.
Don’t drive long road trips in that with over a thousand bucks cash on you. The cops will end up searching your car, seizing your cash and gold. “Civil Asset Forfeiture “, And you’ll be out a lot of money on a lawyer to get it back.
Nice video, Bob. You are a man of many hats, as they say. Honestly, though, why would you go for that "earlobe" sandwich when you have all those great restaurants nearby?? You passed Hells Kitchen and you chose McDonald's?! 😂
He's met Rick & the gang and was even on the show. When he took his DeLorean time machine replica to pawn stars. There's a video clip of it on RUclips. My guess is they had no intention of buying it and was done for 📺 TV viewing pleasure. As with many other items featured on the show. He's probably also met Rick's Restorations crew.

I have a 1969 RR SS DHC, love that car. Runs and drives beautifully.
if i'm ever in vegas and i roll up next to you in your rolls, i'm gonna ask for the grey poupon.
Pretty humorous today, thanks for entertaining us! Regards, Bob 👍😁👍
You may have air in the hydraulic lines, that ticking is typically the result of improper fluid level or air in the lines, very common on Citroen DS and other vehicles with hydraulic suspensions
I used to run an S U carburetor on my Harley same as this it’s just a piston going up and down made that same sound 🤔
Love your videos my brother Bob keep up amazing work proud of you the grind never stops what an amazing car rolls Royce love it god bless you have blessed rest of Wednesday my brother Bob ❤ I'll always support
Have a safe flight... Godspeed,
I found a cutout from a magazine tucked into the giant binder of documentation and history that came with my '75 LWB Shadow about them sometimes being reluctant to start.
YMMV
Great tip! Thank you!!
Rolls Royce Cornish is my favorite RR. This is a nice Rolls Royce ❤❤
Right before you opened the glove box. I was literally thinking about asking you for some Grey Poupon 😂
Bob, check out Harrys Garage channel.
He has a RR just like yours that he semi restored and drove it somewhere very cold from the uk. I think the Antarctic.
He also has an amazing collection of cars.
Great video.
Thank you for this! I’ve always wanted one. Brown being my favorite color.. Beautiful car! A new battery and she’ll fire right up
Bob you have a pretty car with a great history & glad to see your enthusiasm for your Shadow.
Terry
I completely agree having owned 3 shadow cars.
Ran quietly after that
Years ago, an old friend had a black over silver '69 LWB for sale. it was left hand drive. For $hits and giggles I got to drive it. It was fun.
it was funny about the mustard as the car wizard just had a unboxing of some stuff someone sent him and it had RR stuff in and one was the mustard 🙃
Usually, those engines are so quiet that you can only hear the sound of the gasoline being hosed into the cylinders!
Great informative video. I am about to buy one of these and I am learning a lot from you.
Most of it makes sense but not always
Such a beautiful car no wonder these cars are Legend I love the wood and leather interior
That thing is perfect. Don't restore anything you don't have to.
I had a 1977 Silver Shadow 2 Stretch Limo ! Was a great Wedding car for my Limo Company !
Beautiful car! Really like the late 60s Rolls Royces. I like the chrome bumpers.
Beautiful car to take to dinner and an opera
Even with all the repair costs a sublime experience and worthy investment
You should send that RR to Rodd Sala (Park-Ward motorcars) in Chigago, Illinois for a total restoration.
FYI
the bolt/ tool in your tool kit also acts as a replacement for the spirit of ecstasy (held in with a grub screw bolt through a hole in the back of the radiatior cover, with the bonnet up) for when you park in " rough areas".
In England, we are very much aware of the Grey Poupon adverts! We all have an old jar flying around in the glove box 😂
Lesson learned: If you drive a Silver Shadow, all you can afford after all the repair bills is a McRib and fries. 😂
Beautiful sports jacket Bob. How do you handle the heat though?
Such a beuatiful car, and the provenance. Our 88 MB560SL had horse hair seats
She looks like a beauty it would definitely be my daily driver I barely put 4,000 miles a year on the Merc
RR calls them "Cigar lighter" never cigarette lighter.
Probably right you’ll probably better off not knowing what in it 👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧Manchester England 🇬🇧
(and its cheaper)
these engines love to blow head gaskets as most people dont drive them and they blow from just infrequent driving.
Great video, love the old Rolls!😊
She is beautiful, but did you say you put ATF in the hydraulic system? Isn't it supposed to take mineral oil? I know nothing, but I hear a lot about the Rolls Royce mineral oil situation. Waiting for Car Wizard to chime in.
that leak symbolizes your bank account when you buy that thing
Yes it is petrol needle valve in one carburetor is stuck
AC condensate drain. It's moisture from the AC evap. It appears to me.
Might be right, I did turn the AC on, it seems like it was just cold water.
Don’t drive long road trips in that with over a thousand bucks cash on you. The cops will end up searching your car, seizing your cash and gold. “Civil Asset Forfeiture “, And you’ll be out a lot of money on a lawyer to get it back.
My daughter is the assistant district attorney. I'll be fine.
Mr.perfectionist!
Nice video, Bob. You are a man of many hats, as they say. Honestly, though, why would you go for that "earlobe" sandwich when you have all those great restaurants nearby?? You passed Hells Kitchen and you chose McDonald's?! 😂
You should have gone to Pawn Stars. Chumlee probably would given you like $1000 for the gold, cash.
I have owned three silver shadow one row and the shadow convertible!only problem one car gearbox got new one six hundred dollars in Sweden as both gearbox and engine are General Motors a, if you service them never any problems! Fact!
Det är inte samma växellådshus R-R huset har fästen för växelväljarmotorn
R-R v-lådshus kostade 37.000kr 1987 tror jag det var
Så vad du gjorde var en enkel renovering stämmer det?
@@tomasfinkelman new one General Motors from a Chevrolet car that had imported but damaged on on the ship from Canada! Lucky me!
@@bombcross Did You put it in a R-R ?
If you did what about the gear selector engine
No mountings! ????
Gearbox inside is the same not the housing
any way happy for Your sake
looks great for being 56 years old
Your beard looks impeccable today, Bob!😋
Old-Skool electric fuel pump. Turn to run - count to 5, then turn to start.
And I thought boats where the biggest or largest investment to throw money away. Nice car. Heard on some cars that LED'S upgrade will not draw enough current to activate the flasher. Spent twice the price for so called much brighter conventional head lights. Only lasted three years due to rated short bulb life.
