Masahiko Kimura (木村 政彦, Kimura Masahiko, September 10, 1917 - April 18, 1993) was a Japanese judoka and professional wrestler who is widely considered one of the greatest judoka of all time.[1][2][3] He won the All-Japan Judo Championships three times in a row for the first time in history and had never lost a judo match from 1936 to 1950. An author said," In the history of judo, no one is the strongest before Kimura and no one is the strongest after Kimura."[4] He has often been described as the strongest judoka in history.[5] In submission grappling, the reverse ude-garami arm lock is often called the "Kimura",[6] due to his famous victory over Gracie jiu-jitsu founder Hélio Gracie. In the Japanese professional wrestling world, he is known for the controversial match he had with Rikidōzan.

What’s great about Jocko is he remembers how obscured in mysticism martial arts were only a few decades ago. Now we compare techniques, back then we were comparing whole arts, systems and approaches. It’s similar to growing up in the pre-digital as opposed to digital age..it’s probably really difficult for younger people to understand how the world worked prior to iPhones, Netflix and all that jazz. In this context, the Gracies and Jiu Jitsu played a massive role. What that role is today is under dispute by people who like to rewrite history but back then they changed the whole game. Of course others were doing similar but the difference is that the Gracies and later UFC changed the culture, their impact penetrated the entire world of martial arts. Nobody is saying they were invincible or any of that nonsense, it’s simply that they challenged all the old ideas and exposed them for everyone to see.

it's difficult to define champions, or because they tend to be quiet different, one could talk of chefs, postal workers, soldiers, politicians, or doctors that are champions at what they do, however their training is quite different, what they want, goals, or motivations
however, and one could talk of champion culture, or try and notice what makes them different from achievers, the greats, or even ultimate performers
-- a champion tends to be good at something, or several things, however perhaps also life, culture, or self - realization, or that one is not a champion less a certain holistic perspective, or sense of succes
-- champions are singularly, or totally good at something
-- they tend to have their own motivations, or perhaps religion, or standards, or that they follow no rules, training, or what people know, or should comprehend, or that one of their secrets is simply how much, effective, or supreme their training is, efforts to learn, to stand victorious
-- they tend to grapple with religion, or great questions, or what fuels, or serves is the ultimate questions of humanity, or politics, or what they could be, where a person could go, or to defeat, or shatter their own sense of limitations
    1. champions are more than one things, or discipline
    2. they tend to be good at life, or themselves
    3. their training only they understand
    4. quest to be an ultimate citizen

But that only happend to appear, when your opponent gave up or landed on straight his back after a throw. I wish everybody a good hard workout and nice time. Cheers Mates.

Actually Judo is just a modern time Jiu-Jitsu. When Japan became modernized in 19th century and swords became obsolete, martial arts had to adapt as well. Jiu-Jitsu deemed too dangerous with locking technique’s and with Japanese mentality injuries was common. Kano jigoro, a Jiu-Jitsu practitioner invented judo.
In judo you could practice sparring with much less injuries. It even beat Jiu-Jitsu in a team match, to be acknowledged as Tokyo police self defense.
Judokas advantage was their physicality and more experience in sparring sessions. Then judo became a sport and Jiu-Jitsu techniques were abandoned.
Then Helios Gracie resurrected Jiu-Jitsu. Even now, a lot Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools lack physical drills, but it seems slowly changing.
A pity that u haven’t interviewed Gene Lebell, pioneer of American judo and stunt man. Who humbled Bruce Lee with grappling, but ironically Bruce Lee made striking popular.
