My dad is an engineer he works in steel construction and has for over 30 years. Talking with him he came up with the conclusion that the most likely cause of this is the bolts have a deficiency. Because it’s happening in different places on the roll.
And apparently on Reddit someone was told by Guest Services that the ride would not be open for the rest of the 2023 season. (I learned of that after making this video.) So maybe Curtain is toast for this season?
When Steel Curtain was announced many coaster enthusiasts were concerned because the manufacturer has a horrible record of making coasters. Their coasters always had trouble and were closed. Everyone hoped for the best but it looks like another of their coasters is constantly closed.
not necessarily, they couldn’t sue over this. I mean, if there’s a valid reason to sue, then maybe, but I don’t think they’d sue anyone over Steel Curtain.
I live in Pgh, and Kennywood has been going down hill for years. Many rides are closed every single day just about. We wont go anymore, so sad considering it was a nice park way back when.
It’s not that bad, but Curtain just adds to the mess that the park is in right now. Once they fix the issues with the other rides, everything should be smooth sailing.
@@RMsteelerfan7the overall redesign of the park is nice but they definitely suffer from some chronic maintenance problems. And it’s rarely with old rides :/ at least they don’t have as many accidents as six flags lmao
I can strongly agree that the park has gone through a pretty brutal change and when I went this year I was pretty disappointed with a lot of things! It's not the same. I honestly miss the mid 90's of the park
I was at Kennywood on Sept 17, 2023, and it was closed. I have yet to ride it because it is ALWAYS closed every time I go. I miss the log jammer. And WHY is the TURTLE gone? WHY???
This ride is a perfect reflection of the Steelers this year. Was there @ Kennywood yesterday. Still shut down like the Steelers vs Texans last week lol
Yeah I realized that after rewatching my video after it was publicly uploaded. I watch these videos at least 5 times before uploading, and with a video of this size I am more likely to miss the little things.. But as you said, it’s not a big deal. Thank you for pointing it out.
The most thrilling and unique coaster concept out there (hard to argue) the S&S Axis coaster; sadly we probably will never get to ride. All because S&S can't even do a sitdown coaster correctly. I know that I wouldn't wanna take a chance with a S&S concept, when Steel Curtain is having so many problems.
Also on the S&S Free Spins, there is a problem where if you have long hair, your hair will get stuck in the restraints. The first time I rode the joker at six flags Great America, I stood up and my hair got stuck and got pulled and it really hurt, I'm a guy but I used to have long hair and literally every time I rode it, my hair would get stuck so I would have to carefully pull my hair out of the bolts and stuff when in the break run when the ride was over before getting off and this isn't just a problem with me because I witnessed it happen to someone else and also if you look at the bolts on every train behind the seats on top, there are strands of hair caught in every single one. They do not take into account people with long hair, especially women. But B&M restraints don't seem to have this problem because the part that closes is a lot higher up and further back and neither do the B&M vest restraints
This coaster was closed when I visited the park in early October, which is a problem because I live on the West Coast and don’t know when I will return to the PGH.
Its funny u mention the bolts cause me and my friends were at the park on the 28th and a park worker mentioned to my one friend when he asked why the ride wasnt open that bolts needed replaced on the ride and they didn't have them on hand.
And that’s literally the only reason it has ever been closed except for 2020 (it was closed due to getting new seatbelts that year), but every other time it has closed was due to it needing new bolts.
It’s not just the roll, the banana roll also has issues. I think it’s the entire structure, more specifically the high force areas of the ride. The bolts they used for the ride are apparently not that tight, so they come loose easily.
Like I said before I'm not surprised, I have NEVER been on Steel Curtain at all. Everytime we go, it's closed. It's the Log Jammer curse, bring it back!!
I live in Pittsburgh myself, and my grandfather who used to work in the steel mill is rolling over in his grave right about now, cuz steel is NOT manufactured the same way today, as it was back when he worked in the steel mill. That's mainly the issue. Also, I'd leave it closed for the remainder of the season and like the narrator said, re-open it next season with NO issues and what not. Sure if they are testing it now, it might not be making noises cuz you don't have the extra weight of people weighing down the cars. They should test it WITH and without people on it before they actually re-open it to be sure there are no issues. Have those that work at KP ride it and see if they hear or feel any issues or have the maintenance crew ride it to see if they hear or feel anything, but don't just re open without testing it with riders other than the public cuz god forbid if something happens, then you have a huge lawsuit on your hands...unless that's what your hoping for. Also, I have to say I was recently at KP for their fall fantasy parade and I would just like to say that it was 4 years since I was last here, cuz I had ridden Steel Curtain the first year that it opened, and I have to say that I will NEVER and I mean NEVER return again long as I live. Lines were horrendous everywhere, they were having computer issues at the potato patch so I waited forever to get my fries and cheese, the food was disgusting, game prices were outrageous...not to mention 35 bucks for a damn souvenir cup, 18 bucks for a locker rental( and that was the smaller locker) 28 for a jumbo locker...RIDICULOUS. I could go on and on.
I apologize for the negative experience at the park. Fall Fantasy is the worst time you could possibly go to the park, the lines are ridiculously long due to the bands who play in the parade adding to the normal Sunday crowds. I try to avoid it at all costs. And Steel Curtain being closed on top of that doesn’t help anything either. And as I’m writing this, it’s still closed, and I hope it stays that way until they get their stuff together.
Going for the cheap manufacturer can cost you in the long run. It may have been better for them to wait another year or two and have a more reputable company build the ride.
They could’ve easily waited another 2 years with keeping Log Jammer and putting band aids on it like they’ve been doing since the ride first opened. Even if they wanted it gone by 2018, they could’ve just kept the land vacant for a year or two then build the coaster. But I agree 100%, get someone like B&M in there.
@@RMsteelerfan7 to take it a step. Further, they have ended up spending as much money on this ride as they probably would have had they ordered an Intamin. B&M is expensive as well. RMC , you’d better get a ground up steel or else have really good carpenters and maintenence workers
They spent more money than any coaster with the failed Steelers Country area lol. They could’ve easily just went with a high quality ride and crappy land, or even no themed area at all. This has been a problem since very early on and they have been performing this same maintenance since mid summer 2019. I have a video of the banging noise and have heard it myself. It is VERY loud at times. It happens more often when the ride is running faster, mostly when it is running in the rain. This is unrelated to the incident that occurred durring the afternoon of the rides media day which led to changes to the train that aren’t seen on maxx force. This opening day incident was also what led to the ride being closed for the 2020 season. Combine this with frequent finicky train breakdowns and that leaves us with the steel curtain we know today!

It will be opened Before the end of the season, the latest I see it opening is Phantom Fall fest! I personally believe the ride is here to stay as it is the best coaster there, at least in my opinion, and is one of the most popular rides, wich is overall open more than it is closed its safe! The only reason why I mentioned it being replaced or the sea serpent roll being removed was because of what happened to Steel Phantom 20 something years ago. But other than that, Steel Curtain should be here to stay.
well, truly i think they should just remove it that is a maintenance nightmare for the park. and if that thing has been there for five years I feel like that thing has been close more than actually been open or this is kenny woods problem because they are doing poor maintenance on the ride
Yeah, it was closed all of 2020 and for the rest of the years it has existed it always had this long closure sometime in the year, typically in July. I agree 100%, just get rid of the whole thing if it won’t work well.

@@RMsteelerfan7 that is 100% false. Im hearing it might reopen in a week or 2.
