Whitaker has better stats than 14 other 2nd basemen in the HOF. He is neck and neck statistically with Ryne Sandberg, yet he always gets the snub. It makes no sense. I think it's because he was so quiet, humble, and unassuming when he played, so nobody paid much attention to him. The only ones, it seems, who know his qualifications are Michiganders who watched it for 18 years.
18 years playing one of the hardest positions to play at the major league level. World series champion. Half of the best double play combo of all time. Lou deserves to be in hof.
By the way, I got to meet Sweet Lou Whitaker, down on the restored field of Tiger Stadium, after it had been torn down, and right at SECOND BASE. As we were walking off the field, I simply turned and told him "Lou, you're a hall of famer in my book"! And he said "thank you man, I appreciate that"!
TIGER STADIUM !!!!!!! NO STADIUM CAN BEAT THAT ATMOSPHERE WE WERE A PART OF sweet Lou Allen Chet Lance Morris the list goes on Gibson Rick leach football grave for Bergmans bat sparky 35 and 5 I can keep going , don't forget about the bleacher bums 1983 !!!!!!!!!!CHEeeeeeaat lemon center field was locked down!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Richard Brake Prejudice media against JWs. Joe Falls did his damndest against Lemon and Whitaker because of their religion. It’s never changed. If Whitaker was a muslim the media would have licked his ass all the way to the HOF
One half of the greatest double play combo in the history of baseball. For him not to be in the hall with his partner is one of the greatest travesties in baseball. Thanks for the video.
Jack and Trammel get in (deservedly!), but Sweet Lou gets left out! All the while sportswriters are voting for Jeff Kent! Now, you see why certain people are done with Baseball......!
As a die hard yankee fan back to the early 80s I always loved Lou. Wished he played for us with the short porch. But at shortstop bc of Willie. Those two up the middle would have been special. But him and Trammell are synonymous
THEY DIDN'T DO HIM JUSTICE! Sweet Lou took a KNEE for his religion, along with Chet Lemon, long before KAPERNICK, and nobody said a word, when they wouldn't show up for the anthem! But the real reason why Lou and for a long time, Alan Trammell were not in the H of F, was because of DETROIT SPORTS WRITER, Joe Falls, who did something to Lou, and Lou poured water on his head! And as it goes, you can't have one, without the other, and Falls kind of put the word out nationally that those Tigers were not worthy of Hall of Fame inductions, because THEY DIDN'T GET ALONG PERFECTLY with the local media! But Falls was the guy who carried DRUNKEN RED WINGS, out of the old Olympia Bar, but they were worthy of their league's H of F! LOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
There is a big difference. They never took a knee nor showed any disrespect to the flag. The would just stay in the locker room till it was over. That aside Joe Falls was one of the biggest jackasses to ever infest a press box.
The Tigers had TWO of Jehovah's Witnesses on their team for several years: Lou and Chet Lemon. I respect them both, as players second, as men who stand by their bible-based convictions first. They meant no disrespect to flag, country, or countrymen. They just wanted to give their sole devotion, allegiance, and reverence to Jehovah (God).
Nice clips. But what he did with the glove was what made him "Sweet" Lou. I still enjoy watching highlights of him flashing the leather at second base.
My all time favorite season. I must have heard the vast majority of the games that season. Sweet Lou does belong in the hall, as does Jack Morris, and Alan Trammell
I do not believe Morris belongs in the HOF. His career ERA is far too high (3.90). Only thing that could get an ERA that high in the HOF is 300 wins. Based on other 2B and SS in the HOF, both Tram and Lou belong in.
kyokogodai Morris absolutely is a Hallof Famer. He pitched deep into every game. He ate innings even if he was getting beat around on a bad day. Nowadays pitchers give up 2-3 hits in one of the first few innings and they get yanked. If for any other reason just the fact of he pitched the greatest game in a deciding World Series game against an unbelievable offense. 175. Yeah that's right. 175 complete games. WOW!!! I didn't even know he had that many. Proves my point.
GO BLUE....I have lived in Wayne County my entire life (now 52). I worked at Tiger Stadium, as a junior usher, in 1983. I have seen Jack Morris pitch many a game. He does not belong in the HOF. Pitching deep into every game means nothing. He didn't eat that many innings (only leading the league once), certainly no more than any other pitcher of his time (Dave Stieb finished first twice during that time). He finished in double figure losses 11 times in 18 years. The only statistic he led the league in more than twice (he did lead the league in wins twice, in 1981 strike year and 1992 for Toronto, with that truly monster offense) was wild pitches, which he did six times. The only reason I can even think of letting Morris in is that it gives other pitchers a chance. Andy Pettitte has about the same stats. And one game (with Minnesota) does not give him a pass into the HOF. SMH
Better lifetime WAR than Jeter and same as Johnny Bench (also better than Trammels). When he was first eligible for the HOF his lifetime stats placed him in top five statistically among 2nd basemen, all of whom were in the Hall. Defensively one of the best 2nd basemen to ever play. Three gold gloves and four silver sluggers. It's one of the biggest HOF slights ever. One of the best leadoff hitters I've ever seen, could get it going with a hit, walk or homer.
I met Lou in Lakeland. Fla in 1976. He became a good friend and was like a member of my family. He spent a lot of time at my home, and l told him that he would someday make a mark in history. The next time l saw Lou was in the dugout at Yankee stadium. I was at the game with friends and misrepresented myself as a maintenance worker in order to gain access. Lou had just scored and came into the dugout. I said "hey Lou, remember me" and he said yes, but you can't be here. It's against the law. I have always cherished that moment.
Having the time if my life.cherry pie.weekend baseball.blondes.cherry pie and the double play...( #3 trammel and number #1).. did I say cherry pie twice..turn it.. semper fi..
Trammel is in the HOF. Sweet, Lou, the consummate pro, is not? Lou, I respect your quiet excellence, years later even.
18 years playing one of the hardest positions to play at the major league level. World series champion. Half of the best double play combo of all time. Lou deserves to be in hof.
Absolutely! His stats are better than a number of second basemen in the hall.
Absolutely
Sweet Lou should have been elected to The Hall of Fame long ago. Hopefully this mistake will be corrected in the near future.
Lou Whitaker. Is in the top three best second basemen in American league alltime all around player

GOD KNOWS WE MISS THAT OLD TIGER BALLPARK !!! IT WAS THE BEST.
Lou and Alan best double play combination ever; go Tigers
Sweet Lou not in the HOF? Trammel got in so now it is Sweet Lou's turn.
Richard Brake Prejudice media against JWs. Joe Falls did his damndest against Lemon and Whitaker because of their religion. It’s never changed. If Whitaker was a muslim the media would have licked his ass all the way to the HOF
This is like having John Lennon into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but not Paul McCartney.
Its one of baseball's greatest sin
One half of the greatest double play combo in the history of baseball. For him not to be in the hall with his partner is one of the greatest travesties in baseball. Thanks for the video.
Lou always in my hall of fame
Jack and Trammel get in (deservedly!), but Sweet Lou gets left out! All the while sportswriters are voting for Jeff Kent! Now, you see why certain people are done with Baseball......!
My all time favorite ball player ever.
Put Lou in the HOF....NOW!
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!
A real HALL OF FAMER!
As a die hard yankee fan back to the early 80s I always loved Lou. Wished he played for us with the short porch. But at shortstop bc of Willie. Those two up the middle would have been special. But him and Trammell are synonymous
Loooooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. Lou and Tram best double play team in baseball history. They were special.
Brings back memories. Players like Alan Trammell, Lou Whitaker and Cecil Fielder are players that got me into baseball. Thanks for the memories guys
I graduated with Lou - loved to watch him play!
What a great moment when they entered the field together after the last game at The Corner
THEY DIDN'T DO HIM JUSTICE! Sweet Lou took a KNEE for his religion, along with Chet Lemon, long before KAPERNICK, and nobody said a word, when they wouldn't show up for the anthem! Never knew that. Thanks for sharing.
There is a big difference.
They never took a knee nor showed any disrespect to the flag.
The would just stay in the locker room till it was over.
That aside Joe Falls was one of the biggest jackasses to ever infest a press box.
@@airguy5024 Pat Caputo is his replacement.
Better than Sandberg. Should be in the hall.
Not better than Sandberg. Still should be in.
Whitaker and Trammel have virtually identical stats. Why aren't both in the Hall of Fame?? Thanks for posting this!
Best arm in baseball.
The Tigers had TWO of Jehovah's Witnesses on their team for several years: Lou and Chet Lemon. I respect them both, as players second, as men who stand by their bible-based convictions first. Mackenzie Scupholm You got that right
I am a Houston Astros fan since 1986 but I always respected and loved Sweet Lou. He was very under-rated when you look at his consistency.
Nice clips. But what he did with the glove was what made him "Sweet" Lou. I still enjoy watching highlights of him flashing the leather at second base.
Thanks for up load this video I am a tiger fan

254 wins. That's quite a few

Love this video!!! Looooooooooooooooooooooou
An absolute disgrace Sweet Lou is not in the HOF im a yankees fan saying this
The fact that Biggio is in the HoF and Sweet Lou is not should tell you how pathetic the voting to get in there is.
LOOOOOOUUU!!!
@varner313 Yes. That was one of the purposes of the video; to help demonstrate his beliefs.

Its criminal Sweet Lou isn't in the Hall of Fame. He should've took roids late in his career like 90% of every player in the HOF today.
I love sweet lou
My favorite Tiger of all time. I stopped watching baceball when HOF did not call Whitaker.
Every time I go to the new ball park , I always remember Tiger Stadium. New not improved.
