I *DO* own a Bluetooth-enabled turntable (a Target Heyday). There are some situations where it's a nice feature to have, but the fact is I don't see much point to it. I'm sure there are situations where it might be useful - listening with wireless headphones, for example, but I'd probably be perfectly happy without it.

Bought this turntable a couple of weeks ago and it's my first one ever. I think you've pretty much nailed it in the video. It connects with the bluetooth speakers literally with a touch of a button and doesn't require you to be a hacker to manage connections. Plug and play....brilliant.

Andrew: I wish I would have found this review a couple of weeks earlier. I bought the AT-LP120XBT-USB (on sale at BestBuy, and IN STOCK!). Just getting back into vinyl, digging out all of my old albums, and WOW! I had forgotten how good vinyl sounds. Then I tried the BT function with a pair of Sony BT headphones. Again, I am impressed! No, it isn't the quite the same listening experience as when I want to sit and listen to everything being wired, but it IS better than streaming, and gives me the freedom to move about the house whilst listening to 40 year old albums. Price and simplicity of use were the only reasons I said I wish I had found your review earlier. That said, I love this turntable. It really does give me the best of both worlds.
Just a side note: I am surprised at how scarce turntables seem to be right now. Maybe after a couple of months after stock has been replenished, they will be more plentiful. I know, Christmas was last month, and we're in the middle of a pandemic. I was still surprised at the lack of stock.
Anyway, I love the channel!!! Have a great day!

The cartridge in this turntable is a version of the AT3600. While the cartridge is not replaceable, the stylus can be upgraded. LP Gear has an upgrade kit for the AT-LP60 that includes a new belt for the drive and an elliptical stylus for the cartridge.

I prefer the old school stuff BUT this is a beautiful solution for my work studio where space is limited. Now I can actually have vinyl in house and not worry about having a bunch of additional components stuffed into a small space. Oh yeah, definitely, go for it. It's a tremendous little turntable and it can even be upgraded with a few tweaks here and there. I actually replaced the conical stylus with an elliptical from LP Gear, which I did last year. More recently, I removed the felt mat from the platter and placed a beautiful blue acrylic mat down in it's place. This improves rotation stability, produces tighter bass response and less surface noise than the felt. The elliptical stylus is also more responsive in the grooves than the conical. It's more active, tracks every nuanced curve more accurately, it's all over the place doing it's thing with more precision. If you have this turntable connected to a system with tone controls, WOW, all I can say is WOW. You now have a turntable boasting performance and sound quality way beyond what it sells for.

Andy makes a great review about the LP60XBT. Perhaps one thing he didn't touch on was the ability to upgrade the stylus, not the cartridge, but the stylus. Yes, this turntable, as many different models do, comes with the widely used ATN3600L cartridge with a conical stylus. This is where the potential for upgrade is there. A couple of months back, I became curious of what making the switch from a conical stylus to an elliptical would make to the soundstage on this turntable. I can tell Andrew, as well as anybody else who may be thinking about doing something like this, the change is worth it, it's a little more expensive, but worth it. You definitely get a difference with an elliptical tip, and this difference is still apparent whenever I like to use this turntable's bluetooth feature. Even my inexpensive speakers, the Logitech Z130's sound fuller and exhibit more detail, which may also be due to the fact that this turntable uses the aptX bluetooth audio codec. This is where I have to conclude my strong inclination to often use this turntable's bluetooth feature because of the hi resolution streaming it offers, and the elliptical tip clearly enhances the quality of the bluetooth sound to an absolutely beautiful level. It's the kind of turntable that emphasises the fact that bluetooth isn't just about convenience anymore, it's serious audio.

I started this as a hobby recently, started collecting my favorite albums, I don’t know much about setting audio systems with wires and amps and stuff, so I decided to go with this Bluetooth version, easy set up, easy Bluetooth pairing, didn’t want to buy anything expensive, but nothing cheap (speaking in turntable terms), not much maintenance but I think it’s time I change the needle for the first time, perfect choice for me, will probably upgrade and invest more money in another turntable but for now I can just collect records, bass is kinda low but I have a bass booster option on my speaker, and it sounds just perfect to me, I even started to listen to music out of my favorite genres, the community is great, perfect choice for a more modern person, or someone wanting to get into collecting vinyls, would recommend this table

    • @Thievius333
      @Thievius333 Год назад

Your post tells me that you don't need to upgrade your turntable, you need to upgrade your speakers. Preferably to normal POWERED speakers - not bluetooth. Also, while its true you cannot upgrade your cart on this TT, you CAN upgrade the stylus to an elliptical which can drastically increase the sound quality because it gets deeper into those record grooves and delivers more detail.

Speakers that are good entry level ones are Edifir active speakers. You can get them for under 150 dollars on Amazon. Another great way to find audio equipment is by shopping at thrift stores, you can find a majority of the components (including speakers) for under 150, the brands can vary but good ones that are often at goodwill are Technics, Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood etc. Hope this helps!. P.s. you can find the list of different components you may want or not for a traditional stereo system set up online, some things can be left out if you dont want them like CD players and Cassette decks :)

An AT-LP60 with a Bluetooth Transmitter built in.
The LP60 and other clones (RCA/Optimus (Radio Shack), Pioneer, Denon, Marantz) are a good turntable *for their price*.
You could always hookup an external Bluetooth transmitter to a non-Bluetooth unit.
The next decent step up is really your U-Turns and Pro-Jects - addressing plasticy, fixed cartridge and effectively fixed tracking weight (3.5g).
The AT3600L conical stylus (the one included) along with the somewhat heavy tracking is actually quite forgiving on worn records and therefore a positive. I wouldn't bother upgrading to an eliptical stylus, at this tracking weight, it'd likely be too revealing and rip up your records quicker.
The built-in phonostage is actually a big win at this price.

I personally see this turntable as a nice way to make your collection portable for a gathering or party when paired with the cool Sony Bluetooth party chain speakers. For at home play and the overall vinyl experience I say nay to Bluetooth. What’s the point of it... the turntable never moves from on top of the record shelves and most are not going to be moving their speaker placement frequently. You are loosing fidelity to wireless compression so you can loose a single RCA cable. However is this a good value turntable that is easy to use. There is the option of pairing with Bluetooth earbuds or headphones which is intriguing for me!

I've used everything from studio level all tube app + monitors in a Nashville studio to a cheap car audio cassette player to get a mix right. People listen to a wide range of audio gear. The trick is to get a mix that sounds good on all systems.
Thanks for the audio details, this really help me decide what range of bluetooth turntable I wanted to invest in. The LP60XBT is a solid unit, decent audio quality at a good price. A major upgrade from cheaper units, it is worth the additional cost. This should be good enough for the casual listener and does not require additional investment in a stereo amplifier and wired speakers. Let's face it, a lot of younger folks will have only bluetooth equipment. This turntable will open the door for these folks to enjoy the tactile experience of a vinyl LP. For me, now I can listen to my LP's in my office while I work. A big plus!

Hi Andrew, first of all congrats on the high-quality content of the channel, I have been looking all through RUclips for content like this and your channel definetely stands out! I am planning on acquiring my first turntable and I have a question regarding speakers. Unfortunately my current budget won't allow me to buy any speakers along with the turntable (likely the AT-LP60X as it seems to be the best entry-level option) so I was wondering if it is a bad idea to consider listening to the vinyls using a portable speaker (the one I already own is a Sony SRS XB20). I understand it is far from ideal but I am concerned the result will ruin the whole experience. Thanks!!

I'm not a high end, vinyl-playing audiophile like that. I'm somebody who hasn't bought a new vinyl record since I was barely out of my teens, shortly after my first CD player.
I just got this for Christmas. I love how easy it is to use. It is sold at Walmart as the "AT-LPGO-BT." I have not had the chance to try the Bluetooth function.
Anyway, vinyl is cool, again. And I skipped the Crosley, suitcase el-cheapo!
P.S. I did hear someone play the Beatles hit, "All My Loving," on vinyl (on RUclips). I can hear the distinct vocals when Paul's voice was double-tracked on the final refrain, "Close your eyes and I'll kiss you. Tomorrow I'll miss you..." with a certain "buzz" that is lost when I hear that same track on CD. It seems that when that material is digitized, it gets too sanitized. That cannot just be my imagination!

Heck, play it until you can't play it anymore. Keep in mind, the higher you move up in the TT chain, the more knobs and adjustments you have to make (antiskate, tracking weights) and the less automatic they are. If you like how the needle comes back home after playing the record, the less you'll like fully manual turntables where you need to get up and take the needle off the record yourself. To many, that's no big deal, we're used to it. Just know what you'd be getting yourself into.

When you pair with a speaker, does it have memory? I.e. if I have bluetooth headphones and bluetooth speakers, do I have to pair each time I want to switch between them? Looking for the manual now so probably the answer is in there but thought I'd ask! Lol

    • @intoxicatedpartdeux
      @intoxicatedpartdeux 4 года назад +8

Nevermind :) found it... just got it as my first turntable and got to say, I love it... even more now!
      The answer from the manual:
      About pairing
When connecting a new Bluetooth receiver device, you need to
pair it with the product. Once the Bluetooth receiver device and
the product are paired, you do not need to pair them again.
However, in the following cases you will need to pair again
even if the Bluetooth receiver device was paired once:
      • If the product is deleted from the Bluetooth receiver device’s
      connection history.
      • If the product is sent out for repair.
      • If 9 or more devices are paired.
(The product can save the pairing information of up to 8
devices. When you pair with a new device after pairing with
8 devices, pairing information for the device with the oldest
connection date will be overwritten by the information for the
      new device.)

I don’t know many people that throw their turntables around like a frisbee. It’s built to suit a price point. The quality of the 3600L cartridge may be good enough for many to be satisfied with it. And if someone insists on “swapping”, there are even elliptical stylus options. Bluetooth does not appeal to me. It’s two wires, three at the most if grounding is used. They are tossing Bluetooth into everything simply to appeal to certain demographics. These machines are fine for what they are. I recognize that some purchase higher end turntables for bragging rights. I buy them to listen to music. I have higher end machines, and lower ones. But these are great. I hope AT sells similar machines for decades to come.

Harsh truth time for the purists... most music put out on vinyl today is digital somewhere along the path to the pressing anyway. Bottom line: is someone using this table w/ BT 1) owning the copy of the music? 2) selecting the album off a shelf? 3) taking the record out of its jacket and sleeve and placing it on the turntable? 4) getting to enjoy the large cover art and liner notes? 5) committing to entire sides of listening at a time? Well then, they are getting 95% of the same experience of vinyl as the audiophiles. More than enough to validate their experience... not that they need my or anyone else’s validation. Great, honest, fair review Andrew.

Hi Andrew. Very nice and eminently sensible review, as always. I think this type of turntable would suit someone who is into vinyl but not into Hi-Fi, such as my 16 year old son. He loves listening to vinyl records, but has no interest whatsoever in the equipment. Incredible, I know! Most people I know of who listen to vinyl are, like me, as much into the gear as the music. Personally, I would not buy this turntable because I do like to change cartridges and the lightweight build quality would bug me, even if the sound was fine. I can see that for people with powered speakers (no separate amp) which could be some distance from the turntable how the Bluetooth could be a useful facility - or equally how the perceived need to run cables around a room could make getting into vinyl a non-starter for some people. So, I would give this turntable the thumbs-up for that alone - the more people that get into vinyl records the better!
btw, I am still very happy with the Crown amplifier you reviewed and recommended a while back - so, thank you for that. Do you have any thoughts on a mid-price turntable with easily interchangeable head shells? I would love to be able to use an Ortofon mono cartridge for some of my many mono discs, but my Thorens turntable’s arm makes changing cartridges a tedious and time-consuming job. I would just like to swap cartridges, adjust the tracking weight and play. So many turntables now seem to come with one-piece arms that incorporate the headshell, so if you have any thoughts, I would be grateful.

    • @andrewrobinsonreviews
      @andrewrobinsonreviews  5 лет назад

The best turntable utilizing an interchangeable head-shell (or what I call a DJ-style arm) is Technics 1200 and the Audio Technica LP120 amzn.to/2XpUeO0 I agree, this type of setup is infinitely more convenient.

I know someone who has one and shes very pleased with it, shes not into counterweights and all the setup jazz so this plug and play rig is great for her needs. I would like to take one and add some dynamat sound mat in the bottom to kill some resonance and add the LPGear elliptical stylus upgrade and see the results, im guessing it would be very acceptable

I'm planning on buying my first turntable and I have a budget of 400-600$ because I want to get a player that can produce a nice full sound. This one seems really nice but I'm worried that the sound isn't as good as the ones in the range of 400-600$. Can you perhaps improve the sound of this one by getting better cables or other hardware? Or should I try to invest in a different one? My goal is to use cables with my speakers but with the ability to use my wireless headset when the kids are asleep. :)

{N} - The Audio Technica is limiting in terms of upgradability so with your budget in mind, this is the one I would go with since you require bluetooth - amzn.to/3b3axVm - if you're pleased with the sound, you can stop there. Know that you'll be able to upgrade the cartridge and when/if you want to do so and we recommend these bit.ly/2RedAA & bit.ly/BlueAA

I got this table (factory reconditioned) on Ebay for $119 as a holiday present to myself. I wanted it because I have a decent pair of JVC Bluetooth headphones that I wanted to hear my vinyl on. It was amazingly easy to set up and works like a charm. Couldn't be happier!

As an update, I spent $19 on an acrylic mat to replace the foam mat provided, and the bass response sounded much more balanced.

Thanks for this review. With bluetooth connection, how is possible to equalise the sound such as bass, medium and high pitches?

I'm not sure if you will know the answer but does having a smaller speakers (like a small bluetooth speaker) mean less quality in the sound, thanks for an amazing easy to understand review.

Generally bigger speakers from major brands are better but some smaller speakers can pack a punch! I would highly recommend checking out video reviews of different speakers you are looking at buying and or testing them out in person if you have the chance! Hope this helps :)

i have this exact turntable bought from Amazon I have used the bluetooth but I have it hooked up to A pair of wharfdale diamond speakers via a Cambridge Audio amplifier the Sound Quality is very good and detaled especially vocals However the quality of the sound was improved dramatically by using good quality Gale Electronics Bi Wire speaker cable combined with a decent amp and speakers and cable this turntable produces amazing sound and is excellent value for money
