    Excellent review. This unit sounds great for me.
    I was recently told by someone anything under $1000 is crap. I'm calling BS on that. Some have bills and kids to feed, so I'm calling for a moratorium on the term "beginner turntable". It feels derogatory. Let's go with "quality affordable".
    Note: not a comment on this review or Bob. Just me ranting. Bob is the man!

      @Jeep_on_audio 4 месяца назад +1

      Let's keep calling a spade a spade. It's a nice beginner turntable. Nothing more, nothing less. And doesn't everyone start out as a beginner? Nothing derogatory about that.
      But any upgrade to this table will be a big improvement.
      And for this price you can get a U-turn too. American made and better sound guaranteed.

      @daleboylen6427 : This AT won't do the slightest damage to your most Precious of records. Tracking at a shade over 2gms, it's absolutely fine:- those 1970s tracking weight wars are LONG gone; those companies advocating tracking at under 1gm are also gone! Everyone who's been into turntables for a while knows that tracking too light is as bad for the record, as tracking too heavily. Just track it at what the cartridge/stylus manufacturer recommends. And this LP70 appears to do just that; and past experiences with aT turntables, the arm geometry will be well set-up too, so no issues.
      It may be "entry level", but it ticks all the right boxes for record care during playback, and will probably sound pretty decent too; as quite a few reviewers are finding!

      Read my "article" above--it maybe a LOT harder to do nowadays,but you CAN still find some really good bargains out there,if you are willing to take a chance on used equipment.Between my Dual 1209,AND the 701,I spent less money for TWO of the best (production) TT's made,than one would spend for a basic model today.And these units are NOT that hard to work on.

    I got this one the week it was released, no regrets at all. I love the stylus upgradeability, there is a stylus for every occasion from elliptical to Microlinear. I started off wireless then got a proper receiver in and hard lined it, either way it sounds great. I do not see why anyone would want to spend more, you wont get much more if anything to be honest. I bought this turntable simply to play my old vinyl records through my bluetooth tv sound bar. Nothing fancy, but the sound is amazing, IMHO. Sounds better than my Technics SLD2 in the basement running through the standard wired amp system. Less noise by far. Very surprised. Thanks for your evaluation and upgrade recommendations, but honestly, I couldn't be happier as is.

    Pro tip for gift givers: don’t just spring a turntable on someone if you yourself are not already in the vinyl world. Talk to them and find out what features they need. Having a great table with everything they need will far surpass the excitement of a surprise gift that doesn’t have everything they need. My old man bought me the Sony LX310bt for Xmas last year and he paid about what this cost and my table is absolute crap compared to this. It’s essentially an LP60bt with the Sony name on it. No adjustments whatsoever. Doesn’t track properly. I’ve been searching for something that can do everything I need in this price range and AT has always done me well in the headphone world so this might have to be my next (actual first) table. Great video and info, thanks Bob 🤘🏻

    Nice, a fully automatic one. I think that is such a cool feature. This sounded like it is a quite nice alternative.
    I am myself using a Dual 1019. Fully mechanical automation from the 1960s - 16, 33.3, 45, _and_ 78 RPM. A dynamic tracking tone arm with adjustable cueing point and drop-down speed. Amazing piece of engineering. With a modern Ortofon cartridge it is a great source. The dynamic tracking also makes it extremely tolerant for less than ideal levelling (just search for videos of people doing tricks with it playing records in seemingly impossible geometries). The only downside (at least if one needs to relocate it) is that it weighs… a lot. Only the platter weighs in at 3.5 kg or thereabouts (7.5 lbs. for the metrically impaired). That means that the speed is extremely consistent unless your local mains frequency varies wildly (it does use a synchronous motor), and once it starts spinning it keeps spinning…

Oh,BTW--are there ANY OTHER DD's out there,with a 7-POUND platter,like the 701? (carried over from the 1219) Your 1019,mine,and the others made during the Golden Era of Audio,will CONTINUE to run,LONG after these modern ones have hit the scrap pile.

Somehow,with the advent of "all this technology",the little thing of CRAFTSMANSHIP has dropped by the wayside. As I noted above,do you know I was able to buy my Dual 1209 for $120 back in 1971,with most ALL-METAL construction,WITH a 4-POUND platter,and a FULLY adjustable,DYNAMICALLY balanced tonearm,which could track down to 1/4th gram,WITH antiskate--for LESS than HALF of what "plastic" turntables sell for today? In fact,the POS Crosleys cost as much as my Dual did! Talk about "devaluing",and"shrinkflation"! Even the new "Duals" being put out,hold NO candle to the vintage ones I own!

      To answer that question........................
      Starting out needs some definition such as 'to go where'? No one can know for sure where the end point will be but asking if upgrading is foreseeable beyond starting out, would be a reasonable question.
      If starting out is the beginning, what might the end look like? Answering that is necessary for choosing the correct steps getting there without expensive dead-ends & cliffs.
      Btw, studying is free. Not understanding the signal chain is expensive.

      Wow! If I had the budget for the LP120, I would buy that one! It has many more features and is very high quality when it comes to the materials used to build it. The only thing I worry about is that the 120x is NOT fully automatic, so I would have issues with dropping the needle onto the record. lmk which one you go with!

What us up with hate on Sound Buger,? Got mine delivered and set up today, paired with the Edifier R1280Ts under Reddit’s direction.
    I noticed that after being played, the vinyls had a different look to them. Almost as if the groves weren’t there before.
    According to a quick google, the stylus could be damaging them and they said to swap the needle.
    If the “wear” I’m seeing is normal, should I still upgrade the stylus? I really only got into vinyl because I bought a few(10+) limited edition ones, I’d very much like to keep them in tiptop shape.

    A purist would probably want a record player that doesn't have Bluetooth or anything else that could create sound disturbances. or a built-in phono preamp that might also affect the sound even if it is switched off? then they probably also want maybe the opportunity to upgrade the cartridge

    "Audiophiles" are the biggest gatekeepers you will find. I have a $2000 turntable and I think this thing is sweet. Almost want to buy one for my other living room or as a travel table but I already have the soundburger for travel. It's not going to ruin anyone's records and it will sound plenty decent. This would be my go to recommendation for anyone who wants to get into the hobby without stressing over technical details. My 1-up rec would be the Fluance RT81. If you do go for this, spring an extra $50 bux for the bluetooth version just to make an "audiophile" cry.

    Shopping for my college-age child who has shown an interest in vinyl (has a very basic turntable at home and would like one for college). Looking at this, the AT-LP120 upgrade, and maybe U-Turn brand (read too many bad reviews of lower end Fluance and Pro-Ject). I can't spend too much but am wary of getting anything too basic. Ideally, would like it to be easy entry (namely, BT for now), but somewhat future-proof (as in, upgradeable, like cartridge, better external preamp). Also, what about the skipping that some reviewers complain about? Thoughts are welcome.

      I saw a very in-depth review that said that the tonearm, cartridge, and stylus are all fully upgradeable on the LP70x, so there will always be room for improvement. If you have the budget for an AT-LP120x, go with that one! It has so many cool features and is very high quality, just keep in mind that the tonearm is manual, so you have to manually drop the needle onto the record and you'd have to remember to lift it when the record is done playing. I really want to buy the LP70x because it's fully automatic, and I'm still a beginner.

    It appears your gram scale is showing .036 grams too heavy unless Audio Technica uses different tone arm weights which I doubt.
    The LP70 tone arms arefactory preset to exactly 2 grams.
    You mentioned the Fluance RT-81 in comparison but from what I've read the RT-82 or 83 have "improved motors" but lack a built-in PreAmp.
    The Audio Technica AT-LP120XUSB would be my personal choice as compared to any Fluance turntable.
    The LP70 is a Nice Upgrade from the LP60 & most budget suitcase turntables but it's greatest feature is it's ability to accept the entire VM95 Stylus line which can make this turntable sound just as good as most high end turntables at a budget price.

  • @user-dy2zy8rd2t
    @user-dy2zy8rd2t Месяц назад

    They use conicals on the budget tables,not only to keep the costs down,but also because the relatively simple,unsophisticated arms with their higher bearing friction do not work well with an elliptical.For one,these arms have no adjustments for the proper tracking force,or antiskate that ellipticals need to track the groove properly.And the tracking force on these arms also tend to be too high for ellipticals,as is this arm,with a 2.5 gram force is not recommendd for an elliptical-it would cause more wear on the groove wall,due to it's smaller "footprint".Sphericals do less damage in these arms,but are much more prone to "groove pinch",especially in the inner grooves.These kinds of players were intended to get people started at an affordable price,yet,in all honesty,they should be restricted to playing Disney kiddie records,or Taylor Swift albums--you know,ones you don't really care about. Not my Sheffield collectible Direct-to-Disc albums.

    Finally haha I had to push you a little but it's okay. I initially was interested in it because it kinda looks like it would fit well to my harman/kardon HK 990 setup, same curves and 2-tone look, but I got a Denon DP 450 USB now that is (at least in theory) more expensive. I bought it used for a good price and repaired the tone arm lift mechanism and installed a Ortofon 2M Red. I like a cohesive (is that a word) look of my system but harman never made a 980/990 style turntable and the new JBL Spinner or TT350 also does not fit well. Another advantage is the strange dust cover an the Denon 400/450 because I dont have so much space for the lid to open, so I can remove the plastic and play a bit. I have to add its not in optimal position, kind of an after-thought to get this system a turntable, but why not. I have another Vintage System with Harman/Kardon PM 645 that has the full setup (EQ8, TD 292, TU 910, HD 500 and Harman adapt Bluetooth) but I use a Denon DP 300F and the internal harman/kardon Phono preamp (not the Denon one) so the switch on the front is lighting up to PHONO input and I dont have so much inputs, so it is all used. I have to say it is often overlooked. It has the same function (except bluetooth) but has Anto Skate, Counter Balance weight and you can exchange the cartridges on it. It has more features like most of those new entry-level ones and I am quite pleased with the performence, just the feet or platter should be dampened better, but you can't have it all. I chose this because it is one of the only few that is available in silver and I have to say it matches the color or the harman gear perfectly. So I stuck to Denon for now. I am kinda interested in the Cambridge Audio Alva ST, but not sure if I will go there, because the Edge M and NQ is expensive and does not wow me from the performence and reviews (which it should at that price point)... 100W into 8 Ohm, eh, my harman 825 and 870 combination that I restored also has this power and it sounds amazing. I dont think that the Cambridge will beat the Harman (only on optical/digital inputs of course but not in terms of power or sound).
    I think the HK 990 is maybe not the highest end thing but I like harman and it looks so cool and powerful. Still modern, I also have all the other gear like DVD 49, HD 3700, HD 990, TU 980, DMC 1000, BDT 30 etc. I have HK 330c and 495i and everything is harman so I don't want to ruin my vision. I still search a harman/kardon T60 manual turntable, but it is hard to find. Well, what should you do, I like the old stuff and the Denon fitted to my idea and my look I was going for. Don't blame me, I am honestly not sure why the Denon DP 300F is not talked more about, it is available used and new, it has much more features, cool classic silver or black modern color option, it smokes most of those new turntables in my opinion. The 450 semi/part automatic (no return) is also good to use, but the mechanism with belts wore out in 4 years for the last original owner, so I am not sure how it will be long-term if you are not a tinkerer (and it is hard to open). It works now and that's it.
