"Mother nature slippin' her blouse off" - Haze 2023
Thank you Hazey. I’m almost crippled now & you take me on the adventures that I can only dream of now. You make an old man in Oz happy, again, thank you. You inspire so many people around the world 👍🏻😁
Hands down the best hiking backpacking camping channel on RUclips another great video that always brings a smile to my face 👍👍
Took the words right out of my mouth!
That's just Haze taking a ramble up Mordor.
First off, Hazey, thank you. After watching literally thousands of hiking and wild camping videos yours are the only ones I still get excited about when I see a notification. And it's all down to you being your authentic self on-screen.
On a more nerdy note, down quilts are brilliant, a genuine game changer...
- yes, they weigh less.
- yes, they are more comfortable, especially if you're a big owd lad, and a side-sleeper (like me).
"But you still haven't told me why they're better than an unzipped sleeping bag," you say. Well hold your horses, Hazey, me old fruit, I'm getting to that, and it's a surprisingly simple answer.
Pad straps.
A light, down quilt will have a tendency to waft all over the shop if not strapped to a pad, which is fine on those warmer nights, but not so good when you're trying to keep the heat in. Pad straps make the quilt and sleeping pad one deliciously comfortable unit. Wriggle around all you want, the quilt will stay covering you, but if you're feeling a bit warm then you can still peel back a corner, or pop a leg out (not to mention pop the old chap out, if you need a night-time tinkle).
It sounds too simple to be true, but one of the quilts I have is a Mountain Equipment Helium Quilt, and it's warm, light, filled with very high quality down, and packs down to nothing. It's also absolutely useless, for 2 reasons:
- the down isn't hydrophobically treated, and it turns to a soggy mush if you get any condensation in the tent. I'd treat it myself, but it's not worth doing, because it wouldn't change the biggest problem, which is...
- it has no way to fix it to a sleeping pad, and you soon miss all the advantages of being able to do that. So much so that my cheapo Ice Flame quilt gets regular use, but the ME Helium quilt stays in its lofting bag.
Fog, wind and rain = 80% of my hill walking experience. Builds character ;)
Got me imagining the advert now. ‘The Lake District - Like mother nature slipping her blouse off’ 🙃😁
Bloody good watch this series has been! Reliving favourite haunts.
Thank you :)
Excellence in yomping, camping and mental endurance, conveyed with aplomb, and a bit of northern England to boot.
Cheers
Been on gable several times and that's exactly the weather I've had every single time, even when the other tops were clear😂
It’s like it’s always depressed 😂
I think a few people on the Coast to Coast get lost after Black Sails YHA. They keep following the path straight ahead, when they should turn off to the left. Easy to miss in good weather, never mind in fog.
This looked like a great 3 day trip, even if the weather wasn't perfect. Nice one!
Yeah, I remember it been a noggin scratcher at the time
“mother nature slipping her blouse off” 😂😂😂😂
One man and his fog
when the clouds lifted, that view was unreal; thanks for taking us a long.
I've got one of therm-a-rest's corus quilts and I really rate it! Less claustrophobic, no zips to deal with and infinitely better than a bag if you're hammock camping. The down squashed underneath you is practically useless anyway so it's just a waste of weight. I'd say get one and see cos you'll definitely end up using it in the hammock even if you decide you prefer bags for ground camping
Love your videos. When I'm down, your little phrases & comments make me smile. Looking at doing some walks in peak district, as I live in the flattest county on the planet!
I went up Great Gable when I was 12 and saw the most amazing clear views all around. I'm 27 now. Been up it a further 5 times or so; never had much of a view since that first time... Maybe one day! 😅 Send you nought but love Hazey, your videos brighten my evenings and inspire me to get out and adventure more!
Evening haze. Still wearing my medic shirt with pride even around Spain on my holiday
My man! 🫡
@@HazeOutdoors your a legend. Your best on RUclips by miles. MEDIC.
Wow !! Although your not bothered about other people getting up there …. You sure make it appetising !👍 Just getting out anywhere makes me feel good, forget about work and normal life in general 😊 Brilliant video as always Mush x
Really enjoyed watching this trilogy of walks.....top kudos and certainly one I would love to go along.....hopefully get better weather...haha
Mate, you probably don’t want to hear it over and over again but there’s a good reason people voted for you as their favourite outdoor Haze in the UK. And across its re-enforced borders. Love your content, candle lit map times with a brew in my hammock. Wish you nothing but love and a life worth living.
Cheers from a German Fritz
Just catching up on the vids and this series has been excellent.
The clag reminds me of Kinder Scout, very rarely get perfect conditions but absolutely stunning when you get a break in the weather.
I was a Boy Scouts of America leader for over 10 years. Our Troop did a lot of backpacking (wild camping). The most memorable trips were the ones where the weather just did not cooperate. Its the journey that is important. You learn more under hardship.
Top notch again 👌 Keep saying 'regardé' at work now..
Watched the 3 parts on my PC on night shift. GREAT STUFF !
I love your adventures mate.
When you were scrambling over Great Gable I started panicking.....I had to have a 2 am bowl of cornflakes and a very strong cup of tea 😂👍🏼...
Well done mate.👏🏼👏🏼
Just finished watching this as ran out of data credit half way through...!🙄😄... Great Video, loved the soundtrack & just found it on my phone...! Wonderful that U were there to redirect that lady...✔️💯 Everything for a reason...!?🤔🙏😇 Even the trudging through the Pea Soup was worth the trek when, (as U said) - it was like "Mother-Nature taking her Blouse off...!"😯🤣😆 Awesome...👍💕 Best wishes...👊
That tune at the end 🔥🔥
Thankyou for a great journey xxx
Thank you 🙏
absolutely amazing mate , what an adventure loved every minute of it
Epic stuff as per...
Cheers boss
What a fun hike! So glad you know your territory!
Howling at the mimic call to mountain rescue 😂😂😂
This series has been a brilliant adventure. I'm loving it. 👍❤️
Great trip thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Hazey, as an ex soldier who suffers with EUPD life can be challenging. I'm heavily into the outdoor lifestyle but with the weather being so foul recently I have been neglecting my hobbies and as a result I've got myself into a rut but your videos are inspirational. This weekend I'm gonna get out wild camping again even if the rain is coming in sideways. Peace, beans
Waow, a great series, this installment was best of the lot and had me gripped from start to finish. A real challenge!
Thanks for sharing your adventures dude! 😁👍
🤝
Brilliant 3 part series. Really enjoyed it 👊
Simply delightful Haze mate
Nice surprise for a Thursday night. Great little series again 👏 👍
Thanks Hazy lad. Loving your adventures and the banter, take care.

You are an inspiration! What you do is great, but your mindset is what I admire most. Thanks mate
Absolutely loved it...brilliant hike and great craic along the way! Inspired me to get back to the lakes...cheers mate!
Mint. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it Hazey. Great watch as usual👍
Enjoyed watching the adventure Hazy.
awesome 3 day hike great to watch cheers hazy 👍
Really enjoyable vid as always, thank you mate for letting us come along with you. My favourite bit was when you said "it's like mother nature has slipped off her blouse" brilliant line!!!
Really loved the whole film mate, thank you so much for the huge amount of
effort and time it must have taken. Simply unmatched content!
I love the lakes, even when it's a pea souper
Same mate
That was great mate.
Bravo 👏🏻
Great video mate - not sure Id be able to stay so calm when its all hitting the fan!
A most excellent adventure had ! Appreciate your efforts bud 👍🏼👍🏼

Cracking vid in beautiful surroundings.
Loved this series mate. Epic stuff man
Been wanting to get out but the weather has been pants so living my dream through you mate 😂
Great video mate really enjoyed it.
Another sound video! Love this channel. Keep it up Hazy!! Much love from Canada, be well.
Great stuff Hazy! Hard slog on this one.
Loved this 3 parter. The lakes can be anything so challenging with just 1000m tops,I've been caught out a few times but it only makes you better.
Top stuff to watch this Haze Man🙌🏽
Fook that for a game of soldiers ma good fellow! great vid still.....love n positivism..
lovely British summer :-)
Good advise as ever 👌 😊
Another fantastic series good sir. I’ve meant to comment; but I have had to do more radiation treatments for this damn brain tumor that I have been fighting since 2010. On the bright side, the 15 hour craniotomy, done in March, finally got rid of the bugger I’ve fought since the beginning, the radiation is needed to eliminate its younger brother. Cheers Haze, your videos have always cheered me up. 🤙
I've done this mountain in the same conditions it was terrifying, we ended up coming back down the screes like ice skaters totally disorientated, these mountains should not be underestimated, glad you got down safe xxxx we learnt a hard lesson many moons ago
I've got a jungle blanket, very nice in the summer.
Really great series of films, thanks for sharing your adventures with us. It is scary the number of otherwise sane people you met who had ventured up into such a demanding environment as that without a decent map and compass.
great stuff,
Leccylite muesli is some commitment to the hike. Fair play haze, not as good as the wildgarlic scotch egg but I admire the effort
Last i walked through a patch of fern up the old man I picked up a tic on the inner thigh - it exploded in a hot bath, always worth checking yer sac! oh dear have you ripped your tights 🙂 - stay safe
Perfect timing,I’m on the coast above Ravenscar hoping to see the Northern lights and a Hazey video popped up 😀
Haze, you legend another instalment already 👌🖖
Respect my friend. A wonderfully atmospheric vid. Not many would have had the minerals to summit Gt Gables in that weather solo. Top man.
Absolutely brilliant hazy mate, glad you put that out there about having the knowledge and fitness and correct clothing and all ,defo need your wits about you doing this but absolutely enjoyed every minute. still liked the scenery with all the fog and stuff great video man just great take care buddy and all the best ❤️👍👌🙏
Excellent series I've got a similar route planned but I'm missing scafell out.the weather was a bit pants but that's the lakes.i use a quilt for 3 season the main difference for me is there not as restrictive and they weigh a lot less.
Nice Thursday surprise, thanks hazey, Yorkshire's answer to uncle ray.
was in the lakes end june, its allways suprising how much things can change, with a little time or elevation
Bless yer self Haze...Such a joy to watch your videos...its a lot of emotion for us all , and i love and laff at your sly ones....icing on cake is i get to tell you this.....Jah Guide...L°VE is All.....Alright 👊🏽....that clearing in HD was for you...and you shared it.
Awesome mate❤
Nice One Hazeym- Respect
oops typing with sausage fingers again...Hazey...the m is silent obs!....
You are a legend!! Brilliant three vids enjoyed every minute of it! You is a funny man too! Loved it, I’m going to do that route with my sons, 👍😳😎
Great series, thanks for that. I agree on the quilt thing, just buy a bag with a full length zip. I only zip mine up when it’s cold weather, the rest of the time it’s opened out as a quilt. And hot muesli with orange juice is one of my fav breakfasts….
I'm with some of the other comments, probably one of the best channels around, awesome wot you do and down to earth , lovin the mini series and a pity the views weren't there , stay safe 👍 can't wait for the next one
Seen some sights on my journey knowledge is definitely key. I remember baggin Ben Arther probly my 8th time only to come down to the main path and I was greater by a lad in his 20s looked like he was just out a students union swed shoes shorts and shirt and he asked if he was on the right route 🙉. Well done sir another great adventure 🫡
Hazelnut, fyi, quilts were invented by some Norwegians, who went out and stole the underpants off some ducks called Ida, and made them into togs. Sleeping bags were invented by Glaswegians to take to football matches up t norf, and were originally snorkel parkers.
Awesome my friend. Sorry been offline for some time. Miss you my friend. Great work as always
Excellent video HAZE,, i really like it when you can help people ,,i love to Edit videos and you did an amazing job love the drone footage and map times from old to new ,,go chill now 💞
Top draw as usual brudda! Big inspiration for me starting my own little channel getting outdoors with my ankle biter daughter 👌🙏 Much man love comin at ya x
Watching your video after long time brother enjoy it
Banger!
Brilliant
Really enjoyed that trail Paul and I’ve downloaded the route onto my OS app. Fair play for going up Great Gable as it wouldn’t have been pleasant in that mist. Also that girl getting lost on the C2C just shows the dangers of walking on the tops in poor visibility.
Top job 💪 can't say iv ever had a bag on my head, big haze x special forces it seems, now that is cool af
