    Always check to make certain your cabin is surrounded on 5 sides by other cabins. Above, across, below, either side. Also avoid connecting cabins.

    Tom, I think your video is a valuable one in reinforcing the importance of cruisers checking the ship deck plans before booking. A booking of a stateroom close to the ship’s theatre could result in a similar experience. The point is, it is important that we, as individuals, factor into the responsibility for booking a particular stateroom. We are too quick to apportion responsibility to someone else by saying “I didn’t know” or “they should have known.” In your particular situation, I’m sorry you had to experience the inconveniences of booking a room directly under a high traffic area on the ship. Your misfortune in booking the Sunset Veranda is a lesson well learned and good information for we fellow cruisers.
    I do feel, however, that your comment about Celebrity not caring enough to do anything about the issue was somewhat harsh. I think it’s safe to say that many, if not all of the cruise ships in operation today will have staterooms that are not ideal in some fashion. Does that mean that they do not care as well?

    • @tomsunday
      @tomsunday  Год назад +2

      Hi Randy! Thanks for your feedback. I can see where you are coming from. My comments are harsh but waranted. I have occupied various cabins at the rear of different ships, including some beneath well-frequented areas, with Princess and Royal Caribbean. While they did bring about some noise, none of them were as troublesome as the one I experienced on this occasion. I engaged in discussions with every fellow passenger on Deck 9 in sunset verandas, and each one of them shared my astonishment and discontent regarding the level of noise. This situation is far from satisfactory. Not all passengers are seasoned cruisers, and it's only natural for most people not to anticipate that their room's location might rob them of sleep due to the bustling areas situated above. Specifically the dragging of chairs that produces a very deep noise. This surpasses mere routine noise; it's genuinely insufferable. I can't help but empathize with the other guests on my floor who endured the same ordeal. This is coming from someone who is a very deep sleeper. Last year I slept through a fire alarm.
      The fundamental point is that no vacationer should have to endure sleep deprivation during their holiday just because they didn't pore over the deck plans. The room should be accompanied by a warning, or better yet, Celebrity should proactively work to rectify this issue. If you had conversed with the woman residing in the room adjacent to mine, Room 1964, you would have witnessed the extent of her wretched vacation. Her experience was nothing short of miserable, and she's even sworn off future Celebrity cruises. Every other passenger on deck 9 who booked a sunset veranda felt the same way. I know this because we all had a hallway meeting about it. Yes, I made an error, but that doesn't justify the predicament I found myself in. This is not normal busy area noise. This is torture. Thats the main point of this video. Even if I checked the deck plans, I would have never guessed it can get this bad. They need to fix it. The management on this ship told me to voice my concern via the post cruise survey. It's obvious they deal with this all of the time. In stead of handing out future cruise credits, they should fix the issue. It's why I was this harsh in my review. My allegiance is not with them, its with the viewer. No person should have their cruise vacation ruined because they didn't anticipate extreme noise levels.

    With all your experience with cruising , how can you possibly be surprised by this. Even amateurs know you don’t book above or below public areas. Come on Tom!!

    • @tomsunday
      @tomsunday  6 месяцев назад

      I found this experience quite surprising. Having stayed in numerous noisy rooms in the past-some located directly beneath buffets, gyms, or recreational areas-I've never encountered one as disturbingly loud as this one. It's startling to consider that there are rooms on ships that can prevent you from getting a good night's sleep, especially coming from someone who can sleep through fire alarms.
      Moreover, your response seems to downplay the severity of this issue. Is it really acceptable to have rooms on the ship so noisy that a passenger can't manage more than a few hours of sleep? Conversations with my neighbors revealed that none of them were novices to cruising. All were taken aback by the level of disruption.
      Many first-time cruisers or those unfamiliar with these specifics might not anticipate such extreme noise levels-certainly not to the extent of losing sleep. This scenario should be clearly communicated, possibly with a disclaimer for the affected rooms. Additionally, passengers utilizing programs like MoveUp, which offer no choice over room selection, could find themselves in these challenging situations without prior knowledge. In my case, upgrading to what I hoped would be a better room resulted in paying more for an environment where rest was nearly impossible.
      I appreciate your comment but blaming the passengers for poor design of the ship is not a good solution to this problem.

    We booked a concierge veranda in November. Alaska in July. After an error we lost the booking. When we rebooked the Celebrity agent gladly offered us a sunset cabin on deck 9. We looked at the deck plans and promptly turned down the cabin. We got regular veranda on deck 7.

    I had that same issue on an Azamara cruise in 2011. It was a "free upgrade". It was terrible. We were able to move the following day, but all of the sunset cabins were loud with a lot of vibration. Since then, I always look at the deck plans before choosing a room.

    • @tomsunday
      @tomsunday  Год назад

      Great tip. I will never make this error again. I think in general, its a good idea to stay away from deck 9 (or any deck below the busy areas) of an M class cruise ship. I just never realized how loud things can get. This was completely out of control. Thank you for sharing your experience.

  • @butalina
    @butalina Год назад +3

    I could have told you about the areas above and below your Cabin...I sailed that ship so many times...
    NEVER EVER EVER book a cabin with any shops, pools, bars above and below a cabin...THAT is the first thing I look for when selecting a cabin...
    I to this day never can understand why people book a cabin right below the pool then complain of noise...
    Tom, I like you and your videos...But Bro, this is on you.
    Think of this, if you were not in that Sunset Cabin and had a regular Veranda you would go out to that open area move a chair around and not even think about it...or go to the pool move some stuff and not even think about the cabin right below you.
    I have been sailing with Celebrity since 1990 and I never had a issue with noise above or below...because I don't pick these kinds of rooms to begin with.

    • @tomsunday
      @tomsunday  Год назад +1

      Hey Mark, thanks for the comment and your input. I agree with you that it was my fault, and I made a rookie error that I shouldn't have made. To be honest, I mistakenly thought this ship had 12 decks, and for some reason, I didn't realize we were right under the bar. It was my first cruise on an M class ship, and in the future, I will definitely take deck plans more seriously when sailing on new ships.
      However, I've stayed in many cabins at the back of the ship, and a few of them were under popular areas (with Princess and Royal Caribbean). While they were noisy, none of them were as bad as this one. I've spoken with every other passenger on Deck 9 with a sunset veranda, and every single one of them was surprised and upset about the noise level. It's simply unacceptable. Not everyone is an experienced cruiser, and most people don't expect that they won't be able to sleep if their room is below a popular area of the ship. This goes beyond normal noise; it's simply unbearable. I feel bad for the rest of the guests on my floor.
      The bottom line is that no one should have to deal with a lack of sleep on their vacation just because they didn't check the deck plans. The room should come with a warning, or better yet, Celebrity should try to fix this problem. Band-aid solutions won't cut it. If you had spoken to the woman in the room next to mine, Room 1964, you would have seen how terrible her vacation was. She had a miserable experience and has said she won't sail with Celebrity anymore. I can introduce you to many other people who have expressed the same sentiment. Yes, it was my mistake, but that doesn't make the situation okay.

    We don't cruise often but do know just ftom having read cruise critic or other cruise advisors to expect noises when selecting a cabin under any space that would be expecting to make noise. I admit to being surprised at the level of sound from that open deck but recall reading best to book under other cabins normally. From cruise critic
    "Check out the deck plans of your cruise to see where service areas are located; bar, theater, and nightclub locations; and self-service launderettes (all can be noisy at various times throughout the day). Other rooms to avoid on a cruise ship are those situated low and at the back of cruise ships."

I've spoken with every other passenger on Deck 9 with a sunset veranda, and every single one of them was surprised and upset about the noise level (yes they checked deck plans). Most people don't expect that they won't be able to sleep if their room is below a popular area of the ship. Just for reference, I am a very deep sleeper. Last year i slept through a fire alarm in my bedroom. This is not complaining, this is warning to all others who are not aware of exactly how loud it is. Besides tons of people get upgraded to these rooms (via Move Up and other programs). They don't have a choice. Don't be so obtuse, not everyone is as experienced as you are......

      Have you seen the title of this video!? I realize this is my fault. However this still doesnt change the fact that there are rooms on the ship that prevent people from sleeping. I am sure you agree with me that people staying in this room do not deserve that. Some people are new and don't know to check the deck plans. Other people use the MoveUp program and do not get a choice in the room they pick. Bottom line is that this should not happen. Telling me "that's on you" doesn't solve the problem. In fact, you are making it worse. You are putting the blame on the customers. Instead, you should hold the company accountable so they improve everyones experience. Just my two cents on your comment.

    They offered a quieter room and you declined so you could make a video complaining about the noise???

      I declined because my GF enjoyed the sunset veranda and I didn't want to make her move. I clearly explained that in the video, Susan. You should pay more attention. I didn't make the video to complain. I made it to warn other people who may not be aware of this. What is your issue with that?

      Don't be rude, Jannie. It's not necessary to be nasty and call people names. I've stayed in many rooms like this before. Not one of them was this loud and prevented me from being able to sleep. Same goes for every other person in surrounding rooms on my cruise. Even people who sailed the cruise prior. You think we are all stupid?
