About the rain: When you meet Quirrel in the city of tears, he says that someday, he'd like to see the source of all the rain. The last time you meet him is at the blue lake: his journey is complete.
Actually you can see only his sword once again later at the blue lake, and I cannot help but only imagine that he literally ended his journey IN the lake.
@@raywhitethorngalathynius Yes, I meant that the last time you meet him (out of several) is when you find the sword on the shore where you had a conversation with him earlier.
From how much quarrel talks about how important weapons are to carry then coming back to the blue lake to see his nail in the ground really struck a emotion in me, he’s explored everything and he’s ready for his time to come
Ok here's a fun one. In the Abyss, there is actually music in the background. It is very slow and very low pitched. This is actually the same lead as the main theme of the game.
Undertale likes to twist theme into something else's theme. Like how mad dummy and napstablook (i hope i remember the name correctly) has similar vibe.
"Did you catch that the wind in the Ancient Basin dies down when you get the Monarch Wings?" That was actually the only one on this list that I (somehow) had never noticed before, and I thank you for bringing it to my attention sir!
Same here. I noticed pretty much everything else (actually only noticed the giant king's idol statues today as I was doing a a blackmoth randomizer run).
Yeah, I barely noticed the winds disappeared when I finally got the monarch wings. I did notice the area felt a bit different, I just wasn't quite sure how until now.
I will add one thing that I think noone has pointed out: In Godhome you can fight Winged Nosk, but this time it imitates Hornet. This means that the knight remembers Hornet as an ally. This also means that the knight isn't truly hollow and can still form memories and feelings.
you didn't even mention the fact that the city of tears has a poorer side and a richer side, as seen by the architecture, characters, and enemies on each side
Indeed, if you read the hunter's journal, the description of the smaller husks in the city mentions oppression and corruption among the riches before the kingdom fell.
Also a comment on Nosk: if you dream nail the dead people on the way to the boss, first you become a little scared because it is all very strange and that’s a cool detail, but also one of them says “Brother” or something, which is probably their last word before dying, when they saw the illusion of their brother
Despite the fact that I know exactly what's happening, every time I see my own little Nosk copy in Deepnest there's this intense feeling of discomfort lol, they really nailed the ambiance of that.
Consudering that by the time p5 happens, most players already encountered and defeated Hornet Sentinel who also saved the knight from a corpse falling apart, i think our little ghost can take a hint...
See, there's some Cool Lore behind even that. It is impossible to access the Pantheon of Hallownest without the Void Heart, and Winged Nosk is only in the PoH. Not only are you unable to get the Void Heart without beating Hornet Sentinel, but the Void Heart is explicitly earned immediately after the scene in which the Knight remembers its past. *Winged Nosk only exists once the Knight has its memory back.*
A fun fact relating to the Fog Canyon: Its theme is Greenpath's theme, watered down. Makes sense- the place is surrounded from 2 sides by a form of Greenpath. But actually, Wanderer's Journal actually confirms that Fog Canyon was in fact, a part of Greenpath
Another ambience thing is the giant teeth scattered around the Hunter's cave. First time I saw those, I thought to myself 'oh this is totally gonna be a boss fight' and left, only returning later (after hornet and a bit of fungal wastes), only to find out what it actually was later.
As an aspiring artist, Hollow Knight has always been one of my biggest inspirations for my work. I mean, who could resist marveling at the alluring charms of the Flukemarm...? I just love that the start of broken vessels theme is all broken chords, signifying that the knight has to attack it due too the infection that started possessing it. But as the fight goes on, the music becomes a lot smoother and shows that the broken vessel is just like the knight but met an unfortunate end
3:35 “Safe haven” lol. 6:50 Yes! This one I actually figured out myself, it’s so cool how you’re simply lured by yourself, because the knight has no one important to it.
Fun fact: as you defeat the Dreamers, the background of the Dream Realm will change. The first has a pitch-black sky, the second has a slight orange hue, and the third resembles a dawn. The location is also the same as the Radiance's dream, in which the sun has risen.
Wait holy shit this also is like symbolic of how the dreamers unlock the radiance, seeing as radiance takes the shape of the sun, and completing more and more dreamers advances radiance’s awakening
@@ecom6ao False knight and watchers also have the vessel leitmotif present, which is...interesting. It's probably because they're shells being controlled by something else, similarly to the vessels...?
I'm pretty sure that Team Cherry has said in the past that their HK music is allowed in videos as long as you give credit in the description of the video iirc
Okay, I’ve always known there was wind in the Basin when going after the Monarch Wings but I never noticed that the wind stops once you collect them. Speaking of background noise, if you haven’t picked up on this already (highly doubt you haven’t), I noticed once in the Queen’s Station, if you listen very carefully, you can hear bells ringing and chattering in the background. Almost like you can hear the past bugs who used to travel the Stagways so long ago. This is actually mentioned by Quirrel, who mentions the fact that he can almost hear the voices of these past bugs.
Also a fun one: Hornet's theme also features the leidmotief of the vessels, since she is also your sibling. However, in Hornet's theme the leidmotief is hard to recognize since it's a lot quicker and a bit changed around in timing Edit: oh no you said it the moment after writing this comment.. now I feel dumb
A tip I'd like to give to new players- pay attention to the backgrounds because you might miss some great/cute stuff, like the fact that in the Junkyard you can see Fungoons flying in the background
ANOTHER ONE: if you talk to quirrel in the queen's station, he'll give you this line of dialogue, "is it that, just faintly, you can still hear the echo of the bells?" he's not crazy. when you go in, if you stand still, you can hear bells ringing, and people in the station, but just barely. (headphones recommended) isn't that neat?
Huh there are details you mentioned that I never noticed while playing the game! Honestly, I was more set on "Hey, what this?" Or "Oh, hello! And where am I?"

I got goosebums when i listened to the soundtrack after this video and heard the menu theme in the Bossmusic for the Kollow Knight and the broken vessel.
It's been years and this man's still doing Hollow Knight stuff. I dont know if that says more about him or the sheer amount of content Hollow Knight has.
In the Ancient Basin, if you go inside the tram and destroy the speakers and then sit at the bench, you can hear the shade theme. You might have to turn up the volume because it's really quiet.
I have personally gone through Deepnest without the lantern (on my first playthrough), and let me tell you. It was real rough and those fungi do make a huge difference on first time entering a room; however, in the end it is more important to memorize the rooms and explore them that way. The lantern is almost completely required for the region.
Another thing with the Blue lake being where the rain in the City of Tears comes from. When you meet Quirrel at a bench in CoT, he says he'd like to see where the rain comes from before he leaves Hallownest, aka the Blue Lake.
Regarding the number ten: That's also why Nosk copies Hornet when in Pantheon of Hallownest, The Knight already met Hornet and depending on if you fought her twice already, may have even established that she's an ally, so Nosk can now pull Hornet out of his memory and turn into her
I saw the giant Pale King statue in a speedrun this morning I thought it looked so incredible that I had to get a photo... And then I completely forgot about it And then you brought it up and I remembered again! And just an extra secret, actually a visual mistake I found on a random run that I doubt anyone else here has noticed: if you have one or more lifeblood masks and you complete a set of four shards with those lifeblood one(s) intact, the new mask will overlap the blue one, and you'll see how similar, yet different they are. The best part though, I found, was the fact that the dripping animation continued to play, so you have the same amount of lives, but instead of shuffling forwards, they overlap (I found it pretty interesting)
I didn't know about breakable wall at 10:52. Even after almost 3 years of watching Hollow knight videos. I never have seen that wall discovered until this video.
When nosk later encounters the knight in pantheon 5 they appear as hornet. Which would make sense as by the point when the player would likely enter godhome, they’ve learned the truth about themselves and view hornet as a ally, giving nosk something in the knights memories to copy
Im sure most people know this already, but theres a nursery in the white palace that has a music box playing in the background, and its actually a higher pitched version of the shades theme
Ive been watching your videos mainly for background noise, however im currently in the car and i wanted to let you know how much i thoroughly enjoyed your video despite knowing most of these tidbits of lore. Thank you.
My theory is that the Vessels are not _really_ hollow, but that their thought patterns are just impossibly different from anything else. Who knows what the Void is thinking? Not the King, he just stole some of it and made robots out of it. Perhaps they can imprint on others, like the HK. But they are born with an unfathomable mind.
Another thing about Nosk is that the dead bugs along the way to its lair talk about what they saw Nosk as. Some see it as themselves, others see loved ones, or friends. And after the knight goes through the entire game, (more or less) Nosk becomes Hornet, a more of a friend of the knight at the time.
Not really a secret design choice, but boss animations and enemy animations, when spotting you and/or about to attack, although subtle, give me a very clear message to dash away quick, or ready my nail. I used to be, and still am, really fond of animation, so I notice these windups a bit more delibrately.
the reason why winged nosk has the appearance of hornet is because, as the game progresses, the knight becomes less pure of a vessel, especially in godhome, because the very essence of being there is of the knights own will, therefore meaning he has memories of allies, which is hornet
About the hallownest seal, i just realised it also represents pk, as a ruler obviously. Or im guessing it does, you caj see the crown and the monarch wings. Also in the wongs area in yhe background where u get wings u can see a seal itself as well..
The Nosk thing about it trying to find allies of the Knight's- now it makes sense why Nosk appears as Hornet in Pantheon of Hallownest, because Hornet is the only ally the Knight has that survives all the way through the game, regardless of your descisions.
Have you noticed how nosk First just copies the knight, because he doesn’t have any memories, but after beating most of the game and reaching the last pantheon, nosk turns into Hornet, a close friend and ally to the knight.
It’s not very cool how you left out that nosk copies the knights most trusted ally hornet after he gained his memories through the adventures. This is only in godhome with nosk hornet version. He did exactly as the description said since he copied the knights memories
The Hollow Knight motif also appears in the False Knight fight. I always figured it was because the False Knight is occupying a hollow suit of armor once worn by a knight. You know... a hollow... knight...
Not sure if anyone has said it yet, But the pinging sound on the shield is actually just the Geo, not the flies. It was bothering me to hell and back why the Geo pings off the shield when it first happened to me.
completely off topic but i'd like to know if I'm the only person who tried the radience on radient difficulty first (i thought if i beat it nothing else could even come close to beating me if i beat it, got fucked over by contact damage, the one thing it didn't prepare me for)
