    Preflight info - "long flight to target, watch your fuel". Taff in combat - "Ooo! my plane is damaged, lets hang around .. and around" :D

    Let's hope you continue with this campaign into 11/1944 and beyond! This would be the longest survival run to date. Normandy is coming shortly so you might want to switch when available. Your efforts are much appreciated!! Many thanks!!

    You should begin these videos by saying "the Luftwaffe's newest ACE" since you're no longer the newest pilot and you've scored enough kills.

      There was a guy named „achim von dannenberg“ or something like that in taffs squadron in one of his ww1 careers, if I remember correctly. Maybe that was him ;) would be nice if taff would play as him 👍🏼

    Lovely. I really like the way you include the missions that go badly. One word of warning though: With the German Logistics situation being what it was at that stage of the war, putting a burst of valuable ammunition into plane that was already on it's way down could easily lead to court martial for wasting war materiel.

    Lady Luck had a frown this day - it happens. Good evasive action to avoid most of the fire from the Spitfire that damaged you, but you know you should have RTB much sooner, right?

    still trying to do the Turn Game in a 190..Sigh. Speed is the 190's friend

    • @timonsolus
      @timonsolus 2 года назад +1

      If you are flying slower than the enemy aircraft that you’re fighting, then turning is a good idea. An Fw 190 can certainly turn tighter than a Spitfire that is currently flying 50 mph faster.
      Note: The top speed of the Fw 190A-8 is 408 mph. The top speed of the Spitfire Mk XIV is 441 mph - 33 mph faster.

    • @colindouglas7769
      @colindouglas7769 2 года назад

      @@timonsolus That is NOT a Mk XIV Spitfire, though; that is a Mk-IX! The Mk-XIV didn't have the iconic elliptical wingtips; they were the first marque to adopt the straight "sawn-off" wingtips. The Fw-190 A8 with a max speed of 408 mph was comfortably faster than the Mk-IX Spitfire which had a maximum speed of 380 mph. The Fw-190 was not a turn fighter and Taff played into the hands of that Spitfire IX trying to turn fight with him. AP514 is correct. Speed is the 190s friend; turning just scrubs speed off.
      Taff's problem was his situational awareness was poor and he failed to keep a sufficient eye on his six. He missed a golden opportunity to take the Spitfire out when it made that head on pass on him at approximately 10 minutes 10 seconds in. It would have been a scary manoeuvre with a fully functioning aircraft, let alone a damaged aircraft, this is true, but I've seen Taff do it successfully on more than one occasion before in his Hurricane with great success. A well aimed burst of those four 20mm cannons would have obliterated it or at least killed the pilot! He then ignored the fact that it was then behind him by not checking his six properly. Add this to his tendency towards target-fixation and you have to fear for Sebastian's survival into 1945.

    • @timonsolus
      @timonsolus 2 года назад

      @@colindouglas7769 : Actually, the Spitfire XIV only had its wings clipped from June 1945 onwards. After the German surrender. As it was a Griffon engined Spitfire with higher speed than the Merlin engined variants, it was needed at high altitude to combat the Fw 190D and the Me 262.
      In this video, you can clearly see at 4:42 that it’s a Griffon engined Spitfire with the long prominent bulges on the top of the engine cowling above the engine exhausts, which the Mk IX doesn’t have.

    Did you take a full load of fuel for this mission?
    If you didn’t, then its your own fault that you ran out of fuel and wrecked your aircraft in a forced landing.
    Given the location of your new base, you should take a full load of fuel every time from now on.

      On a bit of a rant today?

    • @colindouglas7769
      @colindouglas7769 2 года назад

      He ran out of fuel because he hung around after he got shot up by that Spitfire. His aircraft was significantly disadvantaged with all those holes in the wings and dogfighting always burns up more fuel than ordinary flying. He should have disengaged and returned to base straight away.

      @@colindouglas7769 I though the mission brief mentioned a shortage of fuel stores...

  • @colindouglas7769
    @colindouglas7769 2 года назад +1

    I would have thought you would have learned your lesson by now, Taff. The Fw-190 A-8 is NOT a turn fighter, and yet, you persist in using it as such. You made the cardinal error of not keeping an eye on your six and got jumped. You also forgot that your new base was a long way from your combat zone. After you got shot up by that Spitfire, you really should have disengaged and headed back to base. Instead you hung around the combat zone in a heavily damaged aircraft; you were lucky to get out of the sortie with your life intact, but minus your aircraft. You must change your combat tactics; gain height on your enemy and start booming and zooming. Hit your enemy hard from above with speed and climb out and regain your energy again before you make follow up attacks. Do NOT scrub off your speed advantage by trying to turn fight. The Fw-190 A8 had a good speed advantage over the Spitfire Mk-IX (405mph against 380mph) if flown in the proper way.
