      @ProjectoD77 2 года назад +13

      You can see it between the alternator and the engine block.
      I'm guessing he is using the solenoid on a remote block to send the pressure in a plate right behind the vvt pulley.
      The tricky part is the machining considering how little space there is behind the pulley.

    • @Garage4age
      @Garage4age  2 года назад +16

      Pretty much as above ^ . the solenoid itself is a walk in the park. just remote mounted it. pulley not so much. getting the oil through the cam and into pulley is the tricky part

    VVT + variable runner length ITB-trumpets would yield maximum power band utilization for naturally aspired, only remaining thing to get right would be optimizing compression to fit the variable range the best. Problem is, the difficulty of variable runner length, as anyone who has seen such on the 787B's engine, it goes back and forth to match each given point of the power band that needs a given runner length.. so that would require a linear actuator that was constantly matching the runner-length to the power-band's required length for optimal flow and speed

    My car has VVT and I really like it, compared to the same engine without, it gained 7HP (on paper) and has a flat torque curve, max torque from just 2500rpm, the torque is what really makes the difference in daily driving, it pulls nicely from down low, smoothly all the way to the redline :)
    It has 7 degrees (maybe more) of pwm control though+ variable length runners, it may be the runners that make up the power difference actually (long runners same as before facelift, but added short runners for above 3500rpm)

    I've been wanting to do something similar with my B16B. Wanting to update it to direct fire ignition.

    I sincerely applaud the effort, and only hope you'll keep going!
    Unless someone comes out with a stronger block, this is exactly the kind of ingenuity that's needed to bring 4A-GE tuning into the 21st century!
    Glad to see focus among 4A-GE enthusiasts around the world turn toward the ultimate reliable powerful engine instead of all the 11000rpm anime bullsh*t that has been so prevalent for decades 🤣
    Can't rightly blame people though, the 4A-GE "death zone" above 8500rpm (engine block flex according to ex-TRD engineers, works teams & nzae86) isn't their fault, and it's weird that Toyota didn't catch it/let it go on throughout every iteration of the 4A-GE family, whereas with the FA20 they took steps within a few years, the backstabbers 😆

      @@Garage4age there fixes for these problems tho.
      Either way it's nice to see this engine getting so much love again

    Would love to see the effect of rotating mass: lighter wheels, driveshaft, flywheel, harmonic balancer, crankshaft, etc

    I really liked what you did there. Is that retro mod possible on any engine.
