(Ep.4) His Reiksguard killed the most enemies in one battle with 250 kills. (Ep.1)

First last Dwarves and Greenskins can use an ancient underway of tunnels and caverns that spans the Old World. Good for sneak attacks and quick escapes. There is a chance to intercept them if detected - which causes an underground battle.
Hey Lionheart, really enjoying this series and you seem to have a good grasp on how to command the armies of the Empire. I'm an avid Total War person myself, so I would like to add my own little suggestions on both the tactical and strategic level. That being said, I've come up with a few positive critiques and suggestions that you might find useful. So my first basic observation that I can see, is that the Empire is very reminiscent of the Holy Roman Empire of the Middle Ages. As such, the play style of the Empire should play out like that of the HRE in Medieval 2. Your armies are strong all around, but can crumble under the weight of more specialized enemies. The Armies of the Empire are meant to be generalists that respond to threats by finding what an enemy army lacks and exploiting it thoroughly. For example, the Dwarfs if I remember correctly have no cavalry whatsoever. A shrewd commander would utilize this and have a considerable cavalry force of pistoliers, outriders, and knights to outmaneuver and whittle down the Dwarfs in a prolonged engagement or a series of running battles. Know your enemies and exploit their weaknesses, that is the game of the Empire. The next suggestion I have is one that is more of a generalist answer to the many threats you face. Firearms are going to be vital as the Empire, so I feel it would be prudent to replace your crossbowmen with handgunners as soon as possible. I would even go so far as to recruit some of them globally and place in your towns to fight alongside your garrisons should your towns come under assault. My third suggestion is one of diplomacy. I know some of the other regions of the Empire were open to joining a confederation with Reikland. Personally, I would not do so. It would be far less trouble to simply conquer them, as you don't get thrown into their own diplomatic failures and don't get the negative relations with other provinces. Conquer them one by one until the Empire is unified under the banner of Karl Franz! Also did I mention that way you could play the princes of the provinces against each other? Playing the Game of Thrones is so much fun lol. :P My fourth suggestion is really just a quirk of mine. In terms of Warhammer, I am the human embodiment of Rogal Dorn from Warhammer 40K. I like walls, forts, fortifications and sieges. I know it may not seem practical or efficient on space, but giving your towns guard houses and walls would really improve your overall position. Plus, as you expand, you can specialize each town you capture for different purposes. My final suggestion is a critique, but a positive one. When you marched your second army into Carroburg, you suffered horrendous losses even though you did win. Personally, I'd say the fault in that battle was that you went in slightly under strength. To your credit, you won the battle. However if you had waited until a proper army was in place, such high losses might have been avoided. Never seek to be on par with your enemy, always go for superiority and domination when it comes to the battlefield. Do this, and no force will be able to stop you. That's all I have for now my friend. Good fortune to you, and may your foes flee before you! For Sigmar and the Empire!
I think the reason Tim's spell wasn't firing was because he was on the wall, which might either add vertical distance to the horizontal distance or it's just plain impossible to fire spells from a higher plane than the target.
Don't forget your ranged skirmishers in sieges. After you gain the walls and silence the towers, bring your foot skirmishers up on the walls. Great thing about TW:Warhammer walls is they are wide enough and allow you to position skirmishers to face inwards and hammer defenders (or attackers, if you're defending) from the top.
What is annoying about playing the Empire is that there are so many fronts you have to juggle. May be fighting in one corner of the Empire but have to constantly look around making sure everyone else is happy and won't stab you in the back. And then Chaos comes down and you have to make peace with all the people pissing you off so you can deal with that crap.
I think now the sucessionists are dealt with start making peace with the other Empire holds. Try and get some dwarves aswell. You need to crush the vampire counts before the Chaos hordes descend from the Northern Wastes otherwise you will be fighting on all 4 fronts.
I would like the towers to be different but they're so central to the function of sieges they couldn't be changed without drastically throwing the battle in favor of the attackers. What was great in sieges before was that the player could focus fire and destroy as much of the enemy equipment as possible, but the community demands more and more optimization which requires an increasingly sterile environment. You can basically predict exactly how many towers will go down at what time. In medieval 2 the the numbers worked just right to where units in mass could effectively represent their statistics but a single dismounted knight could feasibly kill a whole army of peasants when stuck in the town center. This goes over a lot so questions are welcome.
Yet another name suggestion "Riener's Blackhearts" for pistoliers. Riener was a pistolier captain from the Blackhearts series book series, a gang of roguish soldiers made up of those who were bound for the gallows
the funny thing about Tim the enchanter was that is was made up on the spot, John Cleese forgot the name he was supposed to say and made it up, it was so good the crew just rolled with it.
I suggested something like this on the mod section off the forum. My idea is that you essentially get a lot of "defensive terrain" on the defending side of the battlefield in the form of buildings, including limited walls that act like cliffs (picture the hill-walls of the barbarian settlements in Rome II.
Fun fact: Clearly the warhammer "Empire" faction is based of the German Holy Roman Empire from our time and one of the factions to come out of the HRE was the Teutonic Order which were invited by Poland to invade and convert the pagan Prussians. The Teutonic Order build a massive fortress in their newly conquered lands that was called Marienburg and it remained the seat of power of the Order till the mid 1400s. It is still there today called Malbork Castle

I'm definitely not as good as you, but i would recommend you take out the vampire counts as soon as possible. on my first campaign i couldn't handle the chaos and vamps at the same time, but my second one i took them out really early and it is a lot easier

Lion, you should immediately make some sort of peace with your opponents west and south of you and focus on the stunted opponents you now face. Either make treaties with those directly in conflict with you or reach out to their neighbors and/or enemies. You need to smash the dwarves before the Vampire Counts decide to start picking at your flanks as well!
Lore-wise, A unit would not be named after Ulric unless it was something like Ulric's Demise. He was Sigmar's god, and was cast off my the Empire in exchange for Sigmar
towers have frontal firing arc, so you can avoid them by placing units close to the wall and between the towers ;) units still take damage from any archers that are on walls tho

If I want to recruit Outriders, can I have the cavalry building (name escapes me) somewhere in Reikland and the Gunsmith over in Middenland? Even if that means only being able to recruit them through Global Recruitment?
Pretty much. If you have the buildings for it somewhere under your control, then you can globally recruit any unit from anywhere, but say if you wanted some Reiksguard and the recruiting building was in Riekland, but you were in Nordland at the moment. You could only recruit the Reiksgaurd locally if you re-entered Riekland, otherwise you have to do it globally.
ZDC331 Yeah, I knew the basics of how global recruitment works, it was just how recruitment worked when a unit required multiple buildings that I wasn't clear on. And I forgot to check the last time I had the cash for any such unit.
I am getting so frustrated. I take a village and once I have moved on some stinking army comes along and takes it back from me. I can't hang around guarding it all day that would be boring. What can I do to prevent roaming armies from taking my ill gotten gains?
I'm new to this game. Only played some hours with Napoleon. I love the fantasy setting. These video's are very helpfull. I didn't use any siege weapons when I attacked Marienburg. When you manage to take one or two towers it is over very quickly. I'm not sure but do these towers shoot back at enemy units within the city when you take them??
if you are afraid of sentry towers on walls, cant you just march your units behind your own siege towers for cover? no need to hide them all in the trees when you can have everybody ready where the action is. if you hide them in the trees they are out of the action and will still face tower fire when you move them forward eventually. granted im a total noob at total war. i only now just started playing but marching behind siege towers just makes sense to me.

If you have the buildings for it somewhere under your control, then you can globally recruit any unit from anywhere, but say if you wanted some Reiksguard and the recruiting building was in Riekland, but you were in Nordland at the moment. You could only recruit the Reiksgaurd locally if you re-entered Riekland, otherwise you have to do it globally.

Yeah, I knew the basics of how global recruitment works, it was just how recruitment worked when a unit required multiple buildings that I wasn't clear on. And I forgot to check the last time I had the cash for any such unit.

I am getting so frustrated. I take a village and once I have moved on some stinking army comes along and takes it back from me. I can't hang around guarding it all day that would be boring. What can I do to prevent roaming armies from taking my ill gotten gains?

I'm new to this game. Only played some hours with Napoleon. I love the fantasy setting. These video's are very helpfull. I didn't use any siege weapons when I attacked Marienburg. When you manage to take one or two towers it is over very quickly. I'm not sure but do these towers shoot back at enemy units within the city when you take them??

if you are afraid of sentry towers on walls, cant you just march your units behind your own siege towers for cover? no need to hide them all in the trees when you can have everybody ready where the action is. if you hide them in the trees they are out of the action and will still face tower fire when you move them forward eventually. granted im a total noob at total war. i only now just started playing but marching behind siege towers just makes sense to me.
