And pretty much due to China being the largest consumer base in the world, it has pretty much secured a net monopoly on Lithium supplies and technological advancement as well.

Yang has shown himself to be quite intelligent, both as an engineer and as a business man, he might not be a genius, but he learns fast, and he learns from his own mistakes and the mistakes of others, he learned from Erlich, he learned from Yao, he learns from everyone, until he himself is a ruthless warlord.
