Thanks for watching! I'm very happy to be where I am today, and I have a blast doing what I do. I really appreciate the Mod team and the community for the awesome opportunity :) Hope you guys enjoyed the video!
Really really good video, it's nice to hear someone's genuine thoughts on being in such a highly coveted position. IMO people idolize mods way too much, they're just dedicated players doing volunteer work for RobTop because they really love the game and its community. They're normal people like anyone else and I always try to remind people about it
Yooo the editing is on point. Honestly after watching it I gotta say you have a very sober way of looking at this, you are definitely worthy of the position youre in. I hope this reaches a bigger audience because this explains all the questions people have pretty well, video like this was much needed. Once again congrats on a whole year! c:
I know it can probably be very stressful to be a mod, considering more people send levels for them to check out. It can be overwhelming at times. But still, everything you say is 100% true. I heard that being a mod does have positives and negatives… Happy Modiversary by the way!
This is so real. Lots of people treat mods as tools more than as people. All of you are players, same as us, after all. Like you said - you only have a few more buttons. I've talked with mods like Incidius or Hexagon who are more active in the platformer community and they are really chill people! I've learned how to disconnect them from their status and I just treat them the same as other cool players in the community. A lot more people should consider taking this approach.
great video! i think a large part of the reason for the "mods must take requests" opinion is just frustration with the level rating system honestly, it's incredibly difficult to get a level rated through level request servers & streams due to how many good levels are made & sent each day, so the anger with the system gets thrown onto moderators as they are the only ones who can help creators get levels rated hopefully if the system is revamped at some point then this frustration against mods who don't do requests will die out
it's also the fact that it comes down to literal RNG at times, when they have it randomized what level is selected next. And having to be heard in a chat spamming their levels, hoping to god the mod will choose your level.
A lot of people forget that not only mods, but prominent public figures in the community are all real people with their own lives and motivations, pretty good to touch on that subject, anything this community does is voluntary work, and nobody should feel forced to do anything great video :)
this is the best video you could've made on the topic, you expanded on what Devilmine said in his twitlonger and I feel really really bad about subconsiously talking to mods cuz they're cool
I understand your role as a moderator, it is a role in which you must have a lot of responsibility, it must be frustrating to spend the whole day playing requests, as it must be very tiring, btw you are in a university, that makes the "Taking requests" harder. I want to say a HUGE THANKS for being this incredible moderador, IMO you're the "best" one (there's not a BEST moderator, I just say you as the best because you're a good person and you're Brazilian, as me) Sorry if my english is bad, but thank you so much Ausk! ;)
Although there are lots of cons to being a mod, I think it would be an incredible feeling to be able to make someone’s day with one click of a button. The fact the moderators can do that is what’s inspired me to try and become a mod. I understand your point about people messaging you just to get a level sent, but I think that the pros far out way the cons, and I would literally give my left kidney to become a mod. Brilliant video, and it’s nice to see this from the perspective of an actual mod, rather than people who make videos because they take level requests and just think that they are pretty much mods. Also it would be great to have an ingame system where you could request your levels directly to mods, so if people don’t have discord and stuff, their rate worthy level could still get rated. Also there could be some sort of request mod who is not qualified enough to send levels to Rob, yet can remove complete troll levels from the list of mod checks. For example, people who are in the top 100 creators could vote on levels to get taken off the list because they are troll levels or completely un-rate worthy and if it gets 3 or so votes, the level gets taken off the list to ensure there is no corruption. Anyway, brilliant video and have a nice day 😀🤩
Very well done video. Covering many questions that future mods may have before they apply, as well as educating regular members of the community about the position, is commendable.
I remember being so hungry for a GD Moderator badge four years ago for some kind of status in the community and will to spend HOURS EVERY DAY JUST TO SEND LEVELS… But now that I’ve grown up from it, I realised how genuinely frustrating the treatment has to be. For example I still play the game almost everyday, but sometimes I just dip for two weeks to do other things I’m passionate about and that’s completely natural. With mods however, this kind of “break of rhythm” might result to the community shaming you for not doing your job properly (even tho it’s not even your job to log in EVERY SINGLE DAY and the rest of the mod team would definitely understand)… but the surface level of players really do consider mods as a level rating machine. It’s sad since I used to hunt creator points as well just like everyone else and there’s nothing bad about it. But now that I stopped caring so much, my perception of mods as human beings changed so rapidly.
@@auskgd I’m actually a content creator too but I am just not as popular those people that wanna talk to you are most likely just 5 year olds and sometimes I get them, just gotta shrug em off brother! And your a great mod don’t let other opinions effect you. STAY STRONG!!
Hi ausk, I recently stumbled into your video about getting motivation to create. I watched the entire thing and I thought it was awesome. You did exactly what you wanted and you gave me the motivation that I needed and i started a level, now I have a full length level and something I am actually proud of. I just wanted to say thank you.
As someone who met tons of mods through their position I couldn’t agree more. There are tons of people who will obviously just want something but if it wasn’t for people being modded I never would have met them in the first place. I met some awesome mods and the mod community is a great place for creators to improve.
Bro aren't you like "new" to gd? Yet you're EXTREMELY EXTREMELY active in the community like wth, also glad you're not shitting on him I was a bit afraid you were gonna do that for some reason lol.
very good and informative video! love how you explain things in simple, slow terms and not with tons of fast paced hyper editing with complicated terms. heres a star ⭐️
Thank you so much! I'm really glad to hear the pacing is nice, because that's also what I personally prefer watching (and making). I know it's not for everyone, but I definitely enjoy the whole process a lot more when I don't have to worry about any kinda of insane editing and can just focus on what I wanna say or other things like that :)
This video is actually quite enlightening. It made me realise some mistakes I may have made in the past of my treatment of some mods, so thank you ausk
This was a great video for me to understand what being a mod is like, besides from just the surface levels of being a "level rating machine." I'm very happy that someone made a video about this, so everyone can gain insight from this part of being a moderator that not many people knew about. Great video, and happy modiversary. :)
This is something i noticed when i came back in the game in 2.2, my mindset about the community and mods switched alot for the good. I'm very grateful for the mods on doing their best they can and i fully respect that. I Remember i also used to say "if i ever become a mod i'll send levels every single day!!!" well even if i become a mod now that wont happen anymore, as i grew older i kinda realized that that isn't really needed and sometimes its best to take things on your own pace. Also i totally understand seeing the excitement to seeing a level getting rated you sent the day before XD
i wanna say you brought a lot of light into what a mod goes through i thought it was easy and not very hard but youve shown me the ups and downs and i wanna say thank you
I really like this video, as a beginner creator trying to get my first rate, I think mods should get more credit, all mods are really nice, for example, The moderator Ares saw my level, and didn’t sent it, which is fine, he gave me tips for the level, and he was super nice. Anyways, Have a good day Ausk :)
i know mods are often idolised and looked up to a lot, though they have the power to send levels, and i'd always wanted to know the casual aspect behind one. this was a beautiful insight
as a level request streamer myself i’ve always been a little curious about how mods handle being in their position and this answered most of my questions, well done video! 👍
Great video! Many things you mentioned in this video also count for leaderboard moderators. While the things we do are obviously different, treatment for every type of mod should be the same and some people really struggle with that. I also hope that this video opens the eyes to those who may not be in the know on how things like moderation work. Thanks once again :D
One thing about the rating system is that, levels can get lost, no matter how many sends you get. For example recently one of my levels has reached 6 sends, at it has gone by 2 weeks which is weird, still somehow not found by Rob. I have had happened before with my past levels too, idk what’s causing it.
If I were a mod I’d tell the people “Today I will accept requests at 00:00 (time and area) until 00:00. Any requests sent outside of that time will not be accepted.” But I know hundreds of people will submit levels in that period of time, so it may not be possible to see them all, and I’d also mention that, even if it’s obvious.
It’s really cool to see the game from a mod’s viewpoint, makes me think of them more as human and not some annoying guy who didn’t send a level I think looks great (or something alone those lines)
The point about conversations feeling like they are only talking to you to get what they want is so real. I get a lot of DM's every day from people much younger than me making 'small talk' and whilst I don't mind too much, I'd rather they join my community and talk to me through the public channels. That way they can interact with their peers instead, because when they talk to me it just feels really weird and parasocial. I find it hard figuring out what kind of community figure I want to be, because I'm not the type of guy to close my DM's and be very private- I do enjoy being open and honest with people. But at the same time that honesty can give people a false sense of "friendship" with me that is not reciprocated at all. I get being young and online can feel lonely sometimes. So I understand where these people come from, I've been in their shoes plenty of times. But now that I myself have a big enough audience that I technically have "fans" part of me is wondering if I need to start becoming more and more private to protect my self interests, at the cost of coming across as more rude and mean spirited. Cause all it takes is 1 person with the wrong information to doxx me. Or to tell me some deeply private stuff that they probably shouldn't tell me because how do they know I can be trusted? What if they give personal information to somebody after me and then that person ends up taking advantage of it? It is incredibly dangerous and I am scared for lonely young kids in this community that put blind faith into content creators and streamers like me.
I've always found this community strange in the way they treat mods. I see people suck up to or idolize mods, or straight up bully them and I have no idea why. They're actual people and players like the rest of us
Really interesting video, and i don’t know how is that, but I can say that being a knowed creator you can have the same treatment as a Mod too, people asking for collab or asking request to sent to mods (bc I do) but sometimes I’m like, let me take a little break and there’s people like, broo my level is waiting for you, and I’m like, bro I’m not mod and I’m getting stressed, I don’t want to imagine how will this feels if I get promoted one day…
I actually don’t mind about what the role of a GD moderator is. I always think of them as a bridge to communicate between us and robtop and I appreciate that you give your voices to those who doesn’t have any strong community presence in the game and give a spotlight especially those who’s new to creating and wanted to get notice of their work only that they don’t have anyone to have a direct connection to the community for exposure of their creation. I hope we treat the mods the way they treat us. 😊
I would genuinely like to befriend mods but every time I try to contact them they just don't respond. It's not that I'm trying to get anything out of them but because I want to know what being a mod is like and just becoming friends with the person. It upsets me that they just think I want to use the mod for a sent level. You bring up really good points though. Being a mod probably is really hard at times. You're doing great though!
I was a moderator for a server that had this rating like system, the people just opening random conversations just to get approved by a mod was just so tiring, I quit 4 months later.
i've always been hesitant to send levels gd mods mainly because i feel like im just bothering them or being an "annoyance" to them idk. this probably comes from when moderators i've messaged in the past either havent responded or missed my message (im just a bit of an overthinker). im happy to hear that you're fine with it maybe might send some levels that I or my friend made to you. although they may not be up to standard i always would love some feedback aswell :))

Amazing video setting up what mods do and what expectations they get hit with, it's quite the different perspective a casual player will have compared to a mod of the game so these insights are really interesting! Unrelated but Wait did I hear Zelda Spirit Tracks OST on this yooooooo

Happy anniversary!
Great video ausk! I’m going for mod at the moment but it’s very hard to get it..
Happy modversery!
I always try to act like mods are just normal dudes. I agree with colon.
2:00 its pretty funny to me how Im doing the complete opposite by juat staying away from the mods knowing they are way out of my reach at that point
Nah we are not out of ppl's reach, we're just random ppl that are passionate about the game and the community, thats all
"understandable. get demoted. have a great day."
I was a moderator for a server that had this rating like system, the people just opening random conversations just to get approved by a mod was just so tiring, I quit 4 months later.
I love how this also applies to creators who just make levels for fun.
ngl i didn't even know u were a mod i just liked you for your creating tips
goated one right here
i've always been hesitant to send levels gd mods mainly because i feel like im just bothering them or being an "annoyance" to them idk. this probably comes from when moderators i've messaged in the past either havent responded or missed my message (im just a bit of an overthinker). im happy to hear that you're fine with it maybe might send some levels that I or my friend made to you. although they may not be up to standard i always would love some feedback aswell :))
com licença, senhores, mas eu sou amigo do ausk desde a época do lendário ataraxia by ausk & more 🧐
you forgot to talk about how when you are promoted to mod, you go into a court of law and make your last name is Geometry Dash.
Hi ausk how do you deal with demotivation when building levels.i start a level have a blast building it and then loose interest.
I have a recent video on that topic :)
hes made a video about how to stay motivated for me i just push through even if im not really feeling it
@@auskgd oh thanks lol I guess I missed it! :)
Well, thank you for your work in GD
It is rare for a good video mod to talk about his career, and this may create a lot of people who want to become a good video mod.
Amazing video setting up what mods do and what expectations they get hit with, it's quite the different perspective a casual player will have compared to a mod of the game so these insights are really interesting!
Unrelated but Wait did I hear Zelda Spirit Tracks OST on this yooooooo
Tysm for the awesome comment! And you're goated for getting the OST (actually, I use a ton of different stuff from Nintendo and lots are from games I didn't play, but they are great regardless haha)
every geometry dash player NEEDS to see this
The yapping i was waiting all week! Your videos are great, amazing editing, quality and story telling.
