  • In this video I take a Juniper where the foliage has become blob like, prune and wire it to create space between the branches, making it into a lovely bonsai tree.

I just finished working on 15 of my Bonsai, mostly Junipers. I was so happy restyling my trees and I repotted two only trimming less than 1/3 of the roots. I wired too. And all this time I remembered a lot of your guidance about what to do. I’m so grateful to you for taking the time to teach us. And it has made my time with my trees so peaceful and relaxing❤️❤️❤️

I recently bought a little mass-produced, "half-trained" Chinese Elm online (not my favorite type of material to work with, but I was curious and it was cheap!) When it showed up it basically looked like a lollipop with a coiled trunk. No side branches to speak of, just a dense little pompom on the very top, growing out of the sides of a blunt chop. I'm really at a loss for how to get started on it! Would love more videos on how to make these very artificial-looking starters into something decent. This juniper looks like it may have started as something similar. :D

I'd let it grow out a bit from the sever chop before trying to style it anew

Repetition is indeed the key. As a beginner in year 3 of my bonsai fever dream 😂 I can never get enough of the basics as when I'm faced with my own developing trees I seem to lose all notion of what I'm supposed to do...learn by doing and watching. May you grace us with your bonsai-ness for many years to come Peter. You are brilliant. Thank you, thank, thank you 😊

I do confess watching your videos is becoming addictive. Even if the topic repeat sometimes, there is always something new, something fresh and precious to discover (that might not even be totally Bonsai related but for daily life). Happy that you take us with you and film it.

You need to learn to keep the foliage thinned out better. It all needs to get better light. That is why you have so much weak foliage.
