30 years old. He was so young looking back then. I love Mike Holmes and loved his show. He's the contractor I want on my house. Too bad he's based in Canada.
You know? Dosen't really matter how "old" mike was....We were and are Mike Holmes fans, and so glad he is back. Love it!❤ His middle names are "integrity" and "honesty".
I built a balcony deck like this on my first house. I didn’t know what I was doing, and the internet wasn’t really a thing (yeah, I’m that old). I asked. Merchants, tradies, read manufacturers’ instructions. Approaching 30 years later, it’s still in one piece. Because the advice was consistent and wise: get the water away, use flashing and caulking, isolate timber from pooled water and damp non-circulating air.
Hello, I have no idea if you'll get this comment, but I'm going to try. First off, I am amazed at the craftsmanship and the dedication. I am or was a Outdoor designer and Deck/Patio builder for 26 years. I have seen it all and fixed many problems caused by non professionals. I like the fact that you stress hiring the right people for the jobs that are needed; Electrician, Plumber, Stucco etc.. It pains me to see Homeowners having to pay twice for something that should have been done right the first time around. Thank you for creating this content in the manner that helps clients understand what is needed. Build on !!! JD Roberts GC.
I love seeing the older stuff where he is on site working, before he turned the site all the time over to Damon. Ya I get it, lots of demand for the crews so I do understand sometimes having helpers run the site. But the first season Mike was on the job all the time and I enjoy seeing that the most.
I've been in the trades for about 50yrs and can count on one hand how many times I was asked for a reference. Fortunately I care about my work and it was never an issue but I do tell my customers to check me out and not just trust that everything will be ok.
My dad had a trailer that we built a wooden storage structure… we built a wedge into the front of it for aerodynamic reasons… when we stopped using it, it was because the trailer itself fell apart, the storage space we built was completely fine. (Axle broke near the wheel after about 8 years)
today or in many states they do not do vapor barriers under floors directly to the subfloor, I have taken out many floors that have rotted away from water being trapped under the subfloor it's interesting how things have changed to go back to old school to allow homes to breath.
I thought they were going to make some fixes to the dining room, but they only worked on the deck and exterior, which looks improved, except for the wicker fencing.
I got introduced to Mike Holmes with Holmes Inspection so it's kind of weird seeing where it all started. Such a small scale project compared to, say, having to gut an entire brick house because someone cut out supporting walls.
Here in the USA if you have a problem with anyone, no matter what their trade the BBB, Better Business Bureau and the AG, Attorney General Office, can be notified of the problems/concerns bad contracting caused. It is filed and recorded so future owners can find out about contractors and repair persons. Even to find out if they're legally licensed. Especially home inspectors! Owners, always take marbles in your pocket as you can roll them to find out level on any surface. NEW OR USED HOMES. DO DILLAGENCE!!!
hellow Mike the big difference between those building en specters is my friend had all your toys and went to school for heat pluming elc. and strucher and passed realastate guy's did not like as he had the sharpest penciel in the state of minn so he did not miss any thing like you see. your biggest fan club member.
So no one stayed home to supervise / make sure they were doing what needed to be done. If work was done wrong, it was because I was at work. Being there allows you to correct things immediately and ask questions if something doesn't look right. Holmes does excellent work.
This is unreasonable to expect home owners to babysit the contractor. The contractor needs exact specifications before starting work, and they are responsible for the final product. If they have a question, they need to stop work and ask, not just do whatever they want because no one is there to wipe their butts. Also keep in mind that most homeowners are completely ignorant of construction.
One day content creators like you will not inject music into your videos. I so look forward to that day. I couldn't finish watching it as the music in the background was doing my head in.
You have to remember this was not created for RUclips. These were originally filmed for television. I saw them on DIY Network, which became HGTV, which became Magnolia Network.
Mike, I need a kitchen overhaul after 45 years. This kitchen is tired to say the least. I have no idea how to find an honest contractor, and am worried after seeing all of your shows. What do you suggest?
I'm surprised that Mike Holmes didn't exp. For the inside walls to make insurer. Destruction was done right, or they showed some problems with them. The morning in the cabinets, and um, he never dressed that part in this episode of the not perfect made kitchen, which is all that he didn't go into and fix. Show my little mistakes inside.
For being "HD 1080p" Sure looks 360p and Maybe even 480p to me.. $40,000 for a Fucking Addition???? $40,000.... Fucking Hell! You can build a Whole Nice Two/Three Bedroom House for that..... In Most Areas....
Not sure what world you are living in, but $40K would be a low bid for this kind of work. A house on my street had just the siding torn off and stucko put up (I personally HATE stucko), and it cost them about $50k for a 1200sf one story ranch house. Things change and everything is more expensive.
Mike Holmes fans! Can you complete the following sentence? 👉Holmes was just ______ years old when he began his first contracting crew.
22?

21 yrs old

O mi gosh, Mike is so young in this episode!
And looking mighty fine I might add. 😊
God bless to the masters of their trades. ❤
That cell phone at 13:26 tells me how old this is. Love it!

I miss the OG episodes, Mike needs to do this again.

Haha! , 12:31. Mike's real behind the scenes thoughts!

I wish you were in the Sacramento CA USA. I would use you.
Amazing!! BRAVO!!

Looking good Mike. Delmar Swindler from Texas Farmersville.
I am surprised he didn't spray foamed the joist cavity and ditched the plastic vapour barrier approach.
How do you stop critters from getting under?

@@loucatozzi7656 Whatever
Whether that music was original or added later it was pretty awful.
Lovely job, guys! But that’s not old. The oldest building at my school was built in 1365, when the school was only a little over 400 years old :-)
Holmes should do a revisit Holmes and see what has happened. He has wood touching the ground and will be rotted away within 6-10 years.
Always wondered if you went after after these Shawty contractors
The music in the background is AAF. Otherwise Mike and crew are the absolute best!!!
This is not the first episode. this is episode 13 of season 1

It want let my like any of the videos
When I hired a contractor for my home silly me I thought he would be doing the work. He had somewhat skilled help.
Yeah. You always have to ask who will be doing the work...
I forgot Mike used to actually do the work.
"very sloppy material" said the guy in a white dress shirt on a construction site
What’s with the background music? It takes away from the video. It’s like you really don’t want us to hear anything.
how does he pay for this? are these home warranty claims? I mean he has to get paid by someone?
The TV show pays for the labor and materials as part of the cost of producing the show.
For being "HD 1080p" Sure looks 360p and Maybe even 480p to me..

Do the bad contractors ever get sued after their work gets torn apart on this show?
Why is the dude wearing a poet's shirt to stucco?
Because he wants to. Are you the fashion police?
Do the people who go on this show get the job done for free or cheaper than if they just hired the contractor privately to fix things?
Boy i hope that Husband gave her the boot after the ending......Laugh it off all you want but every time he sees that he will feel bad...Sad!
You get what you pay for.
Kill the music that is playing over the people speaking. Bad form. Obvious evasion of copyright. Reported.
I really wish Mike would shut up and gets repaired done instead of constantly criticizing the last contractor
This is where the education comes in for the viewer - best part of the show
