There’s something about the overall sincerity, exuberance and commitment that makes this my favorite of all the recordings of this piece. The complexity, variety of expression, and sweet beauty of Busch’s tone, the simple purity of the single F horn and Brain’s emotional authenticity , and the platinum highway laid down by Serkin make this primus Inter pares.
I disagree, because even though this is a very good performance, the choice of F horn instead of natural horn still bothers me a lot, due to the fact that even Brahms is surrounded by valved horns he strongly preferred the natural horn as written in the first edition "Waldhorn", but even so the performance has a very good shine
My favorite recording of this piece to date (former professional Horn player): I'll let you know if a hear a better. Despite using primitive recording technology, this is a fantastic recording. You can hear each individual instrument distinctly. I really love this, and the musical interpretation as well.
This recording was my introduction to Brahms. I am forever grateful for it, Brahms' work eclipses even the masters. ❤

Adolf Busch is without equal. I have never ever heard such beautiful but honest expression on the violin !
Without equal.
You have said it.
Abrey Brain was Dennis Brain's father.
Yessiree!
The andante is awfully slow. Nobody healthy "walks" at that pace. Much pedal...
