Did you know that PM was the first firearm to be in space? That's right, first USSR cosmonauts were issued these pistols as part of landing survival kit.
Uh no, that is easily untrue, since TP-82 was designed in 1979, first issued in 1982, and officially adopted in 1986. So that is 21 years after Yuri Gagarin flight in 1961. PM was issued to every cosmonaut crew up until Soyuz T-6 in 1982. How could you overlook that?
Bought one when they were first imported to the US. Used as backup while on patrol and as off-duty carry. Still carry now that I'm retired. I did have the weapon hard chromed, primarily because of the corrosive salt atmosphere here on the east coast of Georgia and I don't have to worry about rust. I shoot better with the Makarov than I do with my dept. issued Glock .40 cal. It is a very nice concealed weapon carry. Not too heavy and easy to grip. I've put probably 400-500 rounds (hollow point and jacketed) through mine without a malfunction. Very reliable weapon.
No, I have the holster that came with it but never used it. I bought a shoulder holster for it and it works just fine. I'm now looking for a holster similiar to the paddle holster made by "FOBUS" .
Love your guns dude. Even the obscure Tokarev 7.62x25mm. Good fun to shoot. Not to be underestimated. SKS rifle is also a favorite. I've no AK because SKS gives me my 7.62x39mm fix.
+Kalash Loy Thanks man. I figured the only reason for getting a phone was to call in an emergency and I knew the gun would back me up a lot faster than any police officer could. :) I haven't shot mine in oh gosh, 15 years????? I now carry a J frame or 1911, depending on the time of year.
+PotatoGunsRule When I move to Bulgaria I will make the same decision I think! A phone call is no use to police 10 miles away when a gun can deal with a gypsy raid!
Whether or not they're inexpensive depends on where you live, in the UK they're pretty pricey (Even deactivated). You guys in America probably get them for a third of the price I do.
My father carried the Makarov for 15 years, he was a policeman un ukraine. he loves this gun and he told me he always prefers the Makarov instead the mod. Glocks and stuff. I already ordered a Replica Makarov for him as a gift, hope he will be happy to hold the Makarov after so many years again. i would like to buy a real Makarov but its just impossible to get one in Germany, sorry for my bad english :D
I watch other vids on the mak and its all complaints about the sights. Load up hickok and right off the bat he's running drills on plates and taking long range shots.
Are you kidding dude? There is a tremendous difference between the RF and SU. Without metal ores and factories of Ukraine, bread of Belorussia, gold and uranium of Kyrgyzstan, oil of Kazakhstan, and just general population, which contributes to labor (population of RF is not even half of what the population of SU was).
You are not getting the point. They essentially were Soviet. It is like with RUclips, that is believed to be American, when in essence two out of three co-founders were from Asia (one Bangladeshi and another Taiwanese).
***** In Soviet Russia gun shoot you. :-) Actually, that joke kind of fizzles on the word gun. Radio is funnier. In Soviet Russia radio listens to you....
Nice video :) From many year's i served in Bulgarian Border Police Forces and it is still in use in Police and Military forces in my country and in country's from former soviet block.I love it,this is one of my best friend's and I know it will never betray me.Extremely reliable hand gun.Bulgaria made also AK-47 :)
I own a couple of these (Bulgarian), they are very accurate. My sons and I do edc these a lot, due to reliability, easy concealment and accuracy. Ammo is a little expensive as all we can find are hollow points. We have never had a failure to fire, feed, stove pipe, etc. So we use what works. Also they are very easy to break down and clean as there are few moving parts. It does have a little kick to it but not enough to throw you off even when shooting left handed. I was so confident in my Makarov I used one of mine to qualify on the on my last trip to the handgun range, which was a pass/fail test. I staked my personal protection and livelihood on it, as usual my Mak performed flawlessly. It the gun performs properly and is zero'd, not hitting the target if it is in range is shooter error not the weapons fault.
hickok45 Thanks. Looking forward to your next review. My son's and i enjoy watching you shoot and your honest evaluations of weapons which we use before purchasing new ones. Have a great Thanksgiving and Christmas
+hickok45 So looking forward to it! I have a bulgarian and its been exceedingly reliable and trustworthy. I trust it with my life. Love the slow mo ending of this video.
Took my Mak out the day after Christmas, it was a bad day because of sand storm conditions-lots of fine red dust and wind. In retrospect it was a good day to test guns under poor conditions. A friends Beretta M9 jammed every few rounds. His Remington pump wouldn't cycle. My target rifles mag jammed. But my SKS and Makarov functioned flawlessly. Im STILL doing the cleaning, but its a testament to the reliability of the Makarov. Winchester white box, S&B metal cased FMJ, and Hornady critical defense all functioned reliably. I have zero reservations about using this gun for self defense and in fact prefer it for fast follow up shots and minimal penetration through walls in my home.
Translation: It was the first real weapon I had in my hands. I was about seven or eight years old, and I could hardly keep it in my hands, I remember. Even without a magazine and cartridges. Well, to shoot then they did not give, of course, but it was remembered for a long time and bright. Whatever its technical characteristics, this is an epoch-making weapon. One of the symbols of the USSR and the Cold War. Therefore, commentators let them crucify, because for history it does not matter. But the PM together with the USSR is already the past. Although the praise of Mr. Hickok45 is pleasant, especially since the PMs are doing in Izhevsk. I write in Russian, because my English, it seems to me, is worse than the Translation Buttons)
Just bought a Polish P64 Makarov, made in 1973, and had to watch this video. Did a Wolff spring job on the hammer and made the double action better. Went from 24lb (factory) to a 18lb Wolff spring. It's a 6+1 and very accurate. Nice little gun. Good video.
I bought a Hungarian model from a co-worker a few years ago. About 6 months later I was at an antique show and ran across a booth that was selling old, Soviet memorabilia. They had an original Makarov holster with a pouch for an extra mag. The woman said, "You have Makarov?". When I said "Yes", she hugged me. LOL. And now I have the official holster to go with this cool, little pistol.
@@Luke-tt3dt hahah, but seriously speaking it was issued for landing. After you land, you can end up somewhere in the wild. You don't want to be left stranded somwhere in the woods with empty hands. Also probably a last resort if something went wrong and you either die a horrible slow death or go out like a soldier (who they were). Also it can be used to draw attention to you, when ppl search for you after landing.
@@dragonfell5078 All kosmonauts had guns, because, unlike US astronauts, when coming back down to Earth, they'd usually crash in wilderness instead of the ocean, so they had firearms on board as protection against wild animals in hours or sometimes even days before they are recovered from the "landing" site. Originally the firearms in question were pistols, but later a special shotgun with a stock that had a machete blade hidden inside had been developed for this exact purpose, as stopping a bear with a 9x18 makarov isn't as simple as it sounds.
I used to own one (Russian made) when I was in Iraq, simple gun, easy to conceal wherever you go, not very noisy and easy to clean, and it used to be one of the Iraqi military guns. Thank you H45 for all the RUclipss you post.
Great video. I own a Baikal Makarov and two CZ-82 models. They are awesome guns. Like everyone else said, they are reliable, accurate, easy to take apart and clean. The Baikal single stack is a great carry pistol. Might be a bit heavier than more modern polymer firearms, but if he is hitting a target 80 yards away with that short of a barrel, you know it's a gun that means business.
+TrisWarlock 89 Yes, it has a cold-war Soviet era look and design to it with the star on the grips and all, but still, it's pretty stylish and takes a lead off the German Walther PPK I think very very similar design and size..I think the Russian's probably seized a load in WWII and thought damn, this is a very good pistol, let's clone it Soviet style and make it standard military side arm ;-)
When I'm not wearing my Glock I am carrying my Makarov 9x18. My kids bought it for me as a Christmas gift in 2002. First time I took it to the range I took 300 rounds of "mix and match" ammo to test accuracy, functionality and reliability. Well, I never had one Jam or miss feed in 300 rounds and the accuracy equals the Glock. I trust my 9x18 just as much as my Glock 17 or Beretta 92 AND it is really easy to conceal. I've been in various Law Enforcement jobs since 1979 and an NRA firearms safety instructor for 40+ years. I'm no "Pro" but I've shot a LOT of pistols and revolvers and the 9x18 Makarov is great.
Hey Hickok i was very surprised by that video. And in a good way indeed.Just wanted to say because i am from Bulgaria, that there were a lot of Makarovs produced here, when our country was part of the Soviet block. And it was the service gun for the law enforcement and military.(if i am not wrong the Private ranking were given only an AK's and pistols as a secondary weapon were given to Officers and above, not sure what happens in between, never been in the army) Anyhow just wanted to say that most probably that particular pistol was produced here and not being a Russian import. And i am sure there are Russian imports in Bulgaria today. But most of them are special series or custom made to be served as a present to high-ranking Bulgarian Communist Party members, Army Generals and so on.And i believe most of those people still keep them.Thank you for the great video and best regards from Bulgaria.
Mr hickok45, thanks for the review and excellent shooting.
After i saw this man acuratelly tells about history and specification of gun, i instantly subscribed, thank you mister :) It feels like im listening to dad or grandpa. And greetings from russia!
Thanks very much! Nice demo of one of the world's greatest guns. I have one, actually, and absolutely love it. In fact, it is my carry gun in the house, along with a P64 as backup. Both are extremely accurate, with the P64 winning due to its nearly unbelievably beautiful single-action trigger pull. Thank you again, and an especial thank you for not bad mouthing the Soviets. They are great artists in weaponry.
I've carried on the job for 35+ years, first 28 was mostly a .357 but then I went to Glock 9mm. Well, about 10 years ago my kids bought me a Makarov 9x18 for Christmas. Sort of a toy to add to the collection. Well, after firing about 7-800 rounds through the Makarov without a single jam, or failure to feed I trusted it (highly accurate) as much as my Glock. Now, working mostly in administrative work I carry my little Makarov for the last 2 years. Super lightweight and highly accurate. For desk duty I will probably carry it until retirement.
My regards, sir, I always watch your excellent videos and I have a Russian makarov and my admiration for this weapon !! simple and super efficient design !! God keep blessing him always so he keeps making these excellent videos !!
Yes , great pistol. I have owned one for about 25 years and love it. This is my best and most accurate shooting pistol. It just works and does the job. Extreme tight pattern - connect holes ever time. Mine is stamped made in Germany. I was told it was a German Police gun.
I saw an ad for Makarov's back in the arly 90's from a sporting goods shop in Butler, PA. $99. I drove up and bought one, took it to the range the next day. It shot so well I drove up again the following weekend and bought another. They'd just come into the US, and were on special. Great little guns. Perfect for CC, espically with HP rounds. 9x18 is all you need for close-range.
Haters in this commentary, notice it is a old gun, retired but still a great gun. People play on COD and GTA and get used to some unrealitic guns and compare real firearms to them.
In Russia i worked as security guard for 6 months. We were issued a civilian version IZH 71 (Makarov). Pretty neat little thing, fortunatly i never had to use one outside shooting range, only once a partner of mine had to pull it out and waive it around for a bit, but did not fire as we were going trough a house that been broken in to , but all bad guys left, so we just called to police and waited. We also fired of 2 warning shots to the air during a massive firstfight trying to stop it. Did not help much, just drew attention and a lot of swearing and aggression our way.On work around suburbs, our biggest fear was actually those big caucasian-shepherd guard-dogs that many people have roaming around they property while they are gone. Those might rip of half of ones butt with one chew. Anyway the pay on this job was around 300 dollars a month, so i left it after a half year. And yes you have to be a deserved ex-police man or military to own a pistol in Russia, or have a collection license. Otherwise there is no legal way of owning a pistol ( I dont recon rubbershooters a proper weapon if you know what i mean). Owning up to 5 shotguns is not a problem trough, and after 5 years of having a hunter license you might buy rifles. However 5 guns is the legal limit you may posses at a time, rifled or not. One might also have an selfdefence shotgun, but only 1. So most folks just go and register as hunters. Guys who are working as cash-transport are mostly using makarovs or saigas. Guys who are working at jewelary shops sometimes are armed with ugly PKSK.
I don't just "push" the mag into the magwell, I put it in and slam it with my left palm to hear that "CLICK" sound insuring it is locked in. It is my favorite carry gun of all my collection.
It's like a rifle but as small as a pistol. We have 2 versions of less lethal version of it in Russia available for civilians. It shoots with rubber bullets and has no full auto. Muzzle velocity is also limited.
Stechkin is a really underrated designer he designed all kinds of stuff including the APS and two other more modern machine pistols, the small caliber drotik and 9x18 pernach, both absolutely, stunning guns
The classic military/police flap holster is great for carrying a pistol in the field. (Including e.g. hunting.) It protects the gun from rain, dirt, dust, mud, etc. Being able to draw the gun quickly in self-defense isn't the primary consideration. In a war zone you probably know in advance if you are heading into a combat situation. And soldiers carry much more effective weapons than pistols. The pistol's primary military role was a badge of authority for officers (replacing swords) and a back up weapon for tank crewmen, pilots, etc. Police could probably use a holster that allows a quicker draw, but the countries where this is still carried have extremely low levels of violent crime compared to the US. All police in Ukraine (and I think most if not all in Russia) still carry this gun with this same military flap holster and 1 extra mag. Virtually all of them will never even need to draw the gun on duty, much less fire it. (Compare that to US cops who probably draw their guns dozens of times in their careers.)
I wonder where all of these "cold-war-guns-are-inaccurate"- claims come from... Makarov inaccurate? FALSE: you can hit a torso sized target at 80 yards as shown in this video! AKM inaccurate? Again FALSE: It is possible to pick off torso sized targets at 400 yards... Of course I know that it also has to do with the quality of the ammo for all guns, but I bet even with tula ammo, they aren´t inaccurate.
Marketing. Gun companies could hardly move product without claiming better accuracy and they didn't want to compete with low cost designs as it would show its not about the amount of money it costs.
A neat trick for loading the magazines is to use the little projection that is on the follower that sticks outside the magazine. Put that tab against a table and compress the spring and you can load it in half the time and with much less frustration. My Mack from a padded rest at 25 yards can put all shots into an inch. The gun automatically points so I can point shoot without the sights and keep all my shots on a soda can at gunfight distance. I love it.
bought several back in the early 90s for between $60and $75. made great gifts. i still pack 1 today. simple, reliable and accurate. only downside is mag release and loading mag (hard on thumb nail).
I have been shooting My Bulgarian Mak a lot lately. One range in particular, close to home...doesn't like the ammo. Magnetic. Steel case. Never had a problem anywhere else. It's ok..outdoor shooting time is coming. I love this thing!!! Since 2007 I've owned mine. NEVER malfunctions!! any mag, any ammo. BANG!
to put it like this, this little pistol (country origin does not matter) its a war pistol tested and torture throughout time and climates. soo they tell me get a 600$ 9mm pocket pistol like a glock, the glock has actually never seen war on a large scale and its only a civilian and for police. when in true this little weapon has serve faithfully to soldiers, civil war and has participated protecting federal agencies, played major combat roles throughout the world, and the average u.s gun owner considers it a novelty or a "fun range pistol" when in reality its a little war monger. i trust my life protecting myself with that little fella than with a 9mm or 380. and its hella cheap. including the ammo.
@@maxwu5632 to be fair it is extremely police tested. Which to be honest you will most likely never ever use it like a solider will. If you ever use it then it will be like a police officer uses it.
As far as semi-automatic pistols are concerned, the Makarov and Browning Hi Power are the only two pistols I would trust my life to. I am reluctant to purchase any of the plethora of subcompact 9mm's out there made by Taurus, Ruger, SCCY etc. because all will malfunction from time to time. I haven't had any malfunctions with either the Makarov or Browning. The Russian guns----AK series, SKS and Makarov all are reliable.
You need one and it’s a must to own Sir.I had a pistol that shot 7.62X25 and the ammo became so hard to find that I gave the pistol to a friend. She did find a supply of the ammo she needs and it’s her home defense pistol so it all worked out. I’m really thinking of buying one of these little pistols. Very interesting gun and the 9X18 round is just the kind of thing I love to discover so thanks for the video.
The first gun I bought, it came highly recommended by a friend who worked in a gun shop. Tough, simple, safe and reliable and even accurate. One thing I liked was the ammo, most people have no idea so if it got into the wrong hands they couldn't use it easily. I've run across a couple people who carry them. Downside is it's a bit heavy for CC, but a great choice.
The Mak looks like an awkward PPK but it grows on you like no other. It is just a great size, inherently accurate, and reliable all day long. My friend Carter made me a set of walnut grips for mine and it carries great in a JIT slide holster from Don Hume. I even got a G-Code kydex holster for it so I can run it on a war belt.
It's funny how Hickok says he doubts Mak is big in terms of being a carry gun in Russia... ...meanwhile, owning a handgun in Russia is actually illegal, unless it's a traumatic "less than lethal" version.
An Everyman The phrasing of that article is suspect. There has not been any real change in the laws regarding weapons - you were allowed to carry less-lethal pistols before this law, it was just a more murky legal area. You are still not allowed to carry anything other than less-lethal pistols for self-defense. If you happen to be carrying a hunting weapon, you can technically take it out of its bag, load and use it, but you will have to prove that you were carrying it without the intent to use it and just happened to use it. Anyone who states that now concealed carry of real pistols is allowed in Russia is woefully misinformed. I live in Voronezh.
An Everyman It needs more comprehensive understanding of the Russian laws regarding weapons before reporters start typing up their articles. That's the main problem I see here - someone read something, didn't understand it fully, and decided to write something about it, filling in the blanks out of their own head. That's, unfortunately, what journalism is nowadays.
Характеристики у него, ну как бы, "не очень" по сравнению с Valter PP(поскольку в СССР авторское право не соблюдалось, то из-за пистоля Макарова слишком уж уши ВАЛЬТЕРА торчат).

Most of it is classified, so I cannot talk about it much. I will say this: James Bond's life with all the hot women and adventure was based on MY life. Everything you see in the Bond movies pretty well reflects my life exactly.
sailor123ize I knew it had to be something like that too. yes, now it all makes sense, the swagger, the accent, the perfect mastery of ammunition consumption. the total contempt for melons and gourds... and soft drinks, and metal silhouette targets.
+hickok45 I knew that, that's not even the same hickok45 in the videos, there are alot of different hickok45 , but all look alike..the real one is killing is is from far off.
Could be, but nobody on the planet I've ever known would say it that way. It would be like pronouncing GaRAND correctly, which is GARand, and expecting not to get laughed at. :-)
H45 - First, let me say how much I enjoy your videos. I have learned so much about the history of weapons thanks to you and your son! Second, I checked Google translation, which has native speakers pronouncing many foreign languages. When I typed in 'Makarov' and selected the Russian language, a female Russian speaker pronounced it: 'Ma-KA-rov.' If you have a minute, please check it yourself. We Americans have a marked tendency to accent the first syllable of foreign words. Keep on making those wonderful videos. P.S. I am going to contact Smith and Wesson to see about purchasing a classic Model 29-2, .44 Magnum, 4-inch pistol! The company is re-introducing some of its classic guns, to include the world-famous Model 29.
John Zajac for english speakers is always quite hard to pronounce correctly any slavic language. And don't worry no one is getting offended, so cut the man some slack. ;-)
John Zajac I agree on the pronunciation. I am Greek and speak Russian (USArmy) and English (I live in the USA). Americans pronounce foreign words as they please, because most Americans only speak English. Somehow they managed to get ahead in just about everything. So cut them some slack. If they need correct pronunciation they hire someone. It is cheaper. But look at the grammar rules in Russian: Gorbachev a simple name, but the "e" is not a "e" but a "yo" only because it comes after a "CH". I had so many headaches back then LOL. Thank God I spoke Macedonian when I was learning Russian and was a little more "flexible". BUD' SDAROV I VSEGDA NA PRIEME.
My Makorov is the first pistol I bought for myself (shot many other guns) and I liked the "feel" of it right off, easy to understand, handles well, well balanced, accurate. I got it from a dealer who had gotten into numerous of them that were never fired, still in cosmoline. Something I think is interesting is that they have a chrome lined barrel, which seems odd for a such a simple pistol. Damn! Now I need to go shoot mine. LOL +hickok45 thanks for putting this vid out there, nice to see some opinions and real world testing on this neat little pistol.
he didn't go rapid fire a whole lot, but i assure you its one of the fastest shooting pistols out there.
@William Kuncio f for sure

Did you know that PM was the first firearm to be in space?
That's right, first USSR cosmonauts were issued these pistols as part of landing survival kit.
No it wasnt, the first gun in space was the soviet machete gun
Uh no, that is easily untrue, since TP-82 was designed in 1979, first issued in 1982, and officially adopted in 1986. So that is 21 years after Yuri Gagarin flight in 1961.
PM was issued to every cosmonaut crew up until Soyuz T-6 in 1982.
How could you overlook that?
AndSome625028 well there are plenty of russian guns that went to space years ago, its a high possibility that the makarov wasnt the first.
Thomas Anderson
Oh, so you're one of those people who argue to argue. Well, have it for yourself.
AndSome625028 Well actually you are really the only one trying their hardest to prove a small point.
Did you ever try the holster made for it?
No, I have the holster that came with it but never used it. I bought a shoulder holster for it and it works just fine. I'm now looking for a holster similiar to the paddle holster made by "FOBUS" .
I'm from Kazakhstan - former USSR. Nice to hear that American cops like our guns!
What part of the coast? That's where I'm from
So many jels..... I'm a Brit, we can have rimfire in semi only, and no pistols, please weep for me!
You are a very tough guy, I'm very glad that you spoke so warmly of our gun. I wish you good health and success in your affairs.

Love your guns dude. Even the obscure Tokarev 7.62x25mm. Good fun to shoot. Not to be underestimated. SKS rifle is also a favorite. I've no AK because SKS gives me my 7.62x39mm fix.
Thank you and your country for some of my favorite firearms.
Russia made some good firearms. Makarov and AK and mosin are classics. Any are good weapons to have

Yes.

I'm glad Hickok45 is on our side.
I watch other vids on the mak and its all complaints about the sights. Load up hickok and right off the bat he's running drills on plates and taking long range shots.
Russia is weirdly good at making their guns. This also looks quite nice.
+Jebu911 It's not russian, it's Soviet. Huge difference
+DeJulius Caesar Wouldnt say huge difference but ok. Quite minor actually.
Thats not the point. Makarov was designed by a russian. AK-47 too.
You are not getting the point. They essentially were Soviet. It is like with RUclips, that is believed to be American, when in essence two out of three co-founders were from Asia (one Bangladeshi and another Taiwanese).
"Even in California this is legal"
Lol
And in Russia this is illegal
***** In Soviet Russia gun shoot you. :-)
Actually, that joke kind of fizzles on the word gun. Radio is funnier. In Soviet Russia radio listens to you....

The East German made Makarovs are the finest made in terms of fit and finish.
Isn't the Makarov a copy of one of Walther's guns?
+Ray Rucker Good to hear you are experiencing extreme reliability. Stay tuned, we have a Chapter 2 coming with a couple of Bulgarian Makarovs.
hickok45 Thanks.
Love the slow mo ending of this video.
cheaper than dirt had Wolf FMJ for really cheap. I've shot hundreds of Wolf rounds without a single failure

Just bought a Polish P64 Makarov, made in 1973, and had to watch this video. Did a Wolff spring job on the hammer and made the double action better. Went from 24lb (factory) to a 18lb Wolff spring. It's a 6+1 and very accurate. Nice little gun. Good video.

Ok. I just wont look, like you using hammer and nails, when it directed in your head :D

Yep. We call 'em "hammers" (molotki) and ammo is "nails" (gvozdi)

By the way, Gagarin had this gun. Makarov was the first gun in space.
Just, you know, a casual concealed carry Makarov. In case you bump into an alien or American astronaut.
Did they expect to find hostile aliens in space 🤣
Might have been TT as well. I tend to believe Gagarin had a TT
I used to own one (Russian made) when I was in Iraq, simple gun, easy to conceal wherever you go, not very noisy and easy to clean, and it used to be one of the Iraqi military guns.
Thank you H45 for all the RUclipss you post.

I’ve always liked the makarov, never knew why but my favorite pistol.
Yep I'm a fan of the Makarov, and Russian guns in general. They make excellent weapons.
I love watching you mess around with military surplus stuff! Such neat stuff! And you have great info and history on them which I love!
Nice thing about the Makarov, you can get a good one for a lot less than the Walther PPK.
The makarov is such a wonderful unique pistol in comparison to western handguns. It has that 'other side of the curtain' feel to it
+TrisWarlock 89 Yes, it has a cold-war Soviet era look and design to it with the star on the grips and all, but still, it's pretty stylish and takes a lead off the German Walther PPK I think very very similar design and size..I think the Russian's probably seized a load in WWII and thought damn, this is a very good pistol, let's clone it Soviet style and make it standard military side arm ;-)

My 1964 East German Makarov is probably my favorite pistol. It's super accurate and always fires.
I bought mine in 93 new$168. Hundreds of rounds never jammed. And it’s got quite a bark in your hands. Love it!
Interestingly I bought my Makarov also in 93. It was the Baikal I-J 70, don't remember the exact price I paid for it but was very cheap.

I love the fact that most firearms that you put in your hands your proficient with love the knowledge you have on them
Haters in this commentary, notice it is a old gun, retired but still a great gun. People play on COD and GTA and get used to some unrealitic guns and compare real firearms to them.

He is right about ghe Soviet/Russian designs of this gun and their designs in general. Simple, efficient and reliable.
I am glad I have one of these Bulgarian Makarov guns...very reliable, and a wonderful concealed weapon carry !
Makarov pistol: Remember, no bottles
This is a very good gun! Thousands of enemies were shot from this handgun for 60 years.
Wow...pretty cool, thanks for sharing the Gun ownership in Russia !
I don't just "push" the mag into the magwell, I put it in and slam it with my left palm to hear that "CLICK" sound insuring it is locked in. It is my favorite carry gun of all my collection.
After watching so many of his videos, it kinda gets lost on me how GREAT of a shot hickok45 is!
Soviets knew how to build weapons. - Anyone heard of the stechkin? 20 rounds - 9mm - can fire on full auto.
stechkin nice gun! but hurd to find.
Stechkin aps i love that pistol
APS was more of a PDW than pistol like Czech Skorpion
It's like a rifle but as small as a pistol. We have 2 versions of less lethal version of it in Russia available for civilians. It shoots with rubber bullets and has no full auto. Muzzle velocity is also limited.
Stechkin is a really underrated designer he designed all kinds of stuff including the APS and two other more modern machine pistols, the small caliber drotik and 9x18 pernach, both absolutely, stunning guns
when the test RPG?
+Eppi McMahon Yeah, when?! )))
80 yards means 73 meters. Man, you are really good! Thanks for video. Makarov himself would be proud of what you can do with his creation.
Thank you mr. Hickok....didn't know the difference between 9x19 and 9x18...now I know, once again.. great video...
At 13:15 you can see bullets in the air.
yeees because the speed of light far surpasses the speed of sound. I mean by a lot.
Ignorance of history is bliss? :-)
Lol
Maybe
It is for the common man.
It mostly comes from the Russian feeling they gave (Russian must be worse than any Western gun) and usually bigger recoil than other guns.
Marketing. Gun companies could hardly move product without claiming better accuracy and they didn't want to compete with low cost designs as it would show its not about the amount of money it costs.
They do have more recoil, yet they are surprisingly accurate.
I think it also depends on the one who shoots the gun.
....own 3....VERY accurate and tank tough....
I love it.
bought several back in the early 90s for between $60and $75. made great gifts. i still pack 1 today. simple, reliable and accurate. only downside is mag release and loading mag (hard on thumb nail).

to put it like this, this little pistol (country origin does not matter) its a war pistol tested and torture throughout time and climates. soo they tell me get a 600$ 9mm pocket pistol like a glock, the glock has actually never seen war on a large scale and its only a civilian and for police. when in true this little weapon has serve faithfully to soldiers, civil war and has participated protecting federal agencies, played major combat roles throughout the world, and the average u.s gun owner considers it a novelty or a "fun range pistol" when in reality its a little war monger. i trust my life protecting myself with that little fella than with a 9mm or 380. and its hella cheap. including the ammo.

As far as semi-automatic pistols are concerned, the Makarov and Browning Hi Power are the only two pistols I would trust my life to. I am reluctant to purchase any of the plethora of
subcompact 9mm's out there made by Taurus, Ruger, SCCY etc. because all will malfunction from time to time. I haven't had any malfunctions with either the Makarov or Browning. The Russian guns----AK series, SKS and Makarov all are reliable.

my work Makarov pistol that he is very reliable, no misfires, but only 8 rounds magazine.
This gun is beautiful
Jordan O I love mine. It’ll always be with me.

It's funny how Hickok says he doubts Mak is big in terms of being a carry gun in Russia...
...meanwhile, owning a handgun in Russia is actually illegal, unless it's a traumatic "less than lethal" version.
Not anymore, putin just made concealed carry legal
Black jacks armory Lolwhat, since when? Prooflink please?

The phrasing of that article is suspect.
Alright. I believe you. It would seem that this needs a little more investigation. Perhaps I'll visit the Kremlin's website again...

It needs more comprehensive understanding of the Russian laws regarding weapons before reporters start typing up their articles.

My God this man is deadly with a firearm. All Respect to Hickock.
I bought a Makarov and my mom really likes the feel of it. It shoots like a champ too.
this guy is good shooter,,,wat he does in his young age??
Most of it is classified, so I cannot talk about it much. I will say this: James Bond's life with all the hot women and adventure was based on MY life. Everything you see in the Bond movies pretty well reflects my life exactly.
hickok45 I knew it. That is why they pick Sean Connery to play the part. Very close resemblance!
sailor123ize I knew it had to be something like that too. yes, now it all makes sense, the swagger, the accent, the perfect mastery of ammunition consumption. the total contempt for melons and gourds... and soft drinks, and metal silhouette targets.
hickok45
Just tell them to watch Dirty Harry...
+hickok45 I knew that, that's not even the same hickok45 in the videos, there are alot of different hickok45 , but all look alike..the real one is killing is is from far off.
H45. The correct pronunciation is: Ma-KA-rov. Thanks.
The company is re-introducing some of its classic guns, to include the world-famous Model 29.
hickok45 Hey Hickok, would you recommend this for a first handgun buy? Thanks.
Hello from Russia. On Russian
@The Article?
My father served in USSR. Very good video. Everything is correct and very informative.
LOL
+hickok45 thanks for putting this vid out there, nice to see some opinions and real world testing on this neat little pistol.
