    Good to see you back and making videos again. Quick question, apart from the initial heat you used to help remove the underfill did you need to pre heat the board in any way before heating the chip for removal?

    Would love to see someone do something like this to upgrade the CPU/ram on a Mac studio. Harder to source the SOC

    • @techbuddyau
      @techbuddyau  3 дня назад

      @@docdailey As I understand it, the SOC is programmed with the memory configuration so it's not been possible to upgrade the ram, even if you could physically replace it. Happy to be corrected by someone but I believe this is what dosdude1 mentioned before.

    Did programmed the new NAND Chips before installing it?
    If so, could you show how to do it? 🤔

    • @techbuddyau

      The NANDs arrive blank. The DFU restore handles the rest. I only have the programmer to check that the NANDs I order work before I perform any soldering work.

      @@techbuddyau Do you know if blank nands needed for the Macbook Air M1?
      I bought a used Macbook Air M1 256GB for upgrading it to 2TB. I bought all the stuff that is needed for.
      I soldered the blank NANDs on the board.
      When i soldered it on the board the for first time i didn't align it correctly and tried to start it. The Processor got hot and the NANDs too. So i removed the NANDs and soldered this time correctly.
      I could get the Macbook into DFU Mode.
      I tried to restore it. But Apple Configurator gave me an Error Code 2006 saying could not start in recovery mode.
      Maybe its possible that broke the board in some way.

    Does it only work with Apple based silicon for the dfu. So older MacBook Pros intel based won’t work?

      @@puremetal2417 as far as I thought, Intel based mac's aren't able to DFU restore a silicon based Mac. I could be wrong.

      @@techbuddyau Yes they can, you can restore apple silicon macs with intel machine that have usb c ports. I do it all the time, you use apple configuratior, but you don't have access to the tool on intel macs that automatically puts the device in dfu so you will have to do it manually
