This man is on a different level. Truly a savant of the guitar. No matter how much you practice. You will never reach his level. He has a God given gift and he's always playing. Very few if any will get to this level of guitar playing
a great gypsy jazz player and a great straight ahead jazz player. I've never seen anybody this good at both. And he used to tour with a country and western band in the states many years ago. They used to introduce him as Billy Joe Green.
Rather you like this or not, it should be respected that anyone who can devote this much of their life to master an instrument is amazing. The discipline and passion alone it takes to stick with anything let alone the talent is a gift. This should not be criticized. It's not for everyone, but for those that understand what it takes to play at this level appreciate the dedication and hours and hours of sacrafice. And in the real world, this guy plays his ass off.
Anyone who steps out on to the stage and gives their all should be respected. With the ability, professionalism, & mastery that Bireli Lagrene has achieved, what can you really say other than, Way to go, great job, WOW!!! Things you would never say. I think you missed that third note.
I remember being in the big tent, not so far from the stage. I think he came on stage and said in a very shy way"Hello, my name is Birelli lagrène, and he started playing. That day I understood a lot more about jazz guitar, and especially that you don't have to play always fast to make it swing. He was excellent at playing the medium tempo heads...Just because he has an electric guitarist technique as well.

He has so many great lines, he never regurgitates the same old stuff every solo, unlike some I could mention. Ridiculously good.
Bireli, a master of improvisation, period.
Bireli is just plain awesome! Chuck Loeb
bireli is off the charts, easily great or greater than ANYONE ever to play the guitar..
