When I was last in hospital I told the person bringing the lunches that I couldn't have dairy and she said "oh don't worry, it's gluten free" 🙈
Whaha shit. When I was in uni I was just starting out with vegan cheese (run my own business now actually :D) and I would bring dishes to class to share. My friend was vegan but also had celiac disease so I made a gluten free vegan cheese pasta. I was trying to hand it out to people and they were all like I'm sorryyy that's really sweet but I am vegan/can't eat cheese/can't eat gluten/etc. and they were actually all wrong hahaha. It's so lovely when that happens!

I had the same problem when I was in the hospital. I told the kitchen that I'm a lactose-intolerant vegetarian (not vegan; I eat eggs and honey), so for dinner they sent up stir fry lovingly topped with tons of chicken and a bowl of ice cream. I sent it back and reiterated my diet, so they sent back plain rice swimming in teriyaki sauce. When I called down again (because what the hell?!), they told me the kitchen was closed. The nurses on my floor tried to help, but all they could offer me was applesauce (because all the sandwiches they had were turkey and cheese). My hubby made an emergency midnight run to Burger King for me.

That reminds me of the first time I was put on the low residue diet in the hospital and all they could think of to give me was boiled eggs and plain rice 😅 I was amazed when I was in after I had my baby in 2018 though as every meal time they had whole legit vegan meals available and even dessert 😍

Whenever my mother brings something home from the health foods store and it says "egg free", "gluten free", "sugar free" * insert another 5 things that are not in it * and I just have to sit there questioning what is in it. XD

I think a lot of types stuff that is labeled gluten free when your like why would it have gluten to let you know that there isn’t any cross contamination in the factory and processing plant
This is true. It’s also true because gluten really does hide in bizarre places. For example, I was getting a rice milk and couldn’t figure out why I was getting so sick. Turns out? It had frick-fracking barley in it. I was new to gluten free at the time and it never would have occurred to me to check the label of rice milk.
Now unless it’s something I know and trust it’s every label every time.
All that to say (hi my name is Nora and I ramble) is gluten hides in really strange places and I am grateful when the “weird” stuff gets labels as gluten free.
A lot of advertises say that for people new to gluten free diet who don't know. They use it to remind people it's gluten free.

Claudia you’re great! A box of this, a can of that, chop this, add a pinch of some goodness walah!! It comes out great. I do the whole recipe thing on first tries of something, but even then I’m changing a bit here and there. Gluten free baking requires recipes due to the scientific balancing act necessary in the ingredients.

Thanks for doing a low fodmap vegan recipe! My mom has IBS and i have stomach/gallbladder problems as well as lactose intolerance so it's good to find a naan that we can both eat!

Love this series. People say that baking is a science and cooking an art but I think in reality there's a lot of crossover. There's also a lot of importance placed on food appearance and presentation in cooking but taste is what counts most in both.
I tried this recipe tonight at a dinner party. It was a hilarious disaster. Lol. Finally got enough made for everyone to have a couple but wow!! Turned the rest of the dough into a loaf of bread. So much fun. Thank you so much. 😁

While I'm not sure about low-fodmap, British curries tend to either be jar sauce based or from a base of stock, tinned tomatoes, onions (and other aromatics) and spices. My dad usually does the latter with either chicken or beef cooked off at the start so it goes fall apart tender, or lentils, chickpeas and sweet potatoes with whatever veg we have around.

There is gluten in a lot of things people wouldn't normally expect it to be in. Because flower is good for binding thing. So strawberries definitely a marketing tactic to label as gluten free, but lots of foods have lots of things we never would expect. Like lots of meats aren't necessarily gluten free.
Sorbets aren't always vegan either. Sorbets aren't just always just frozen fruit.
