    If you listening to early polyphony, you should know, that this work is unlike any "old-school" missa. Listen to Josquin... his music flows like a cool brook, progressing forward and not repeating itself. This missa, however is static with continuous pulsation, just like a fire, with the flames endlessly dancing around.

      Isn’t he fabulous? I just loved singing any of his music, sacred or secular, and listening is almost as good! There are so many composers who’ve been lost to time, which is sad, but we can be so grateful for those whose music is now ours!

    I like these countertenors. Lovely soft timbre. Great mass setting in the "old" style by Monteverdi, published along withe the 1610 Marian Vespers. Bravi gentlemen!

      For you, maybe….although I adore singing and listening to Monteverdi’s genius compositions, Bach is my Heavenly composer, to sing, play my flute, or the organ, or to listen to!

    Questa è l'incisione dell'ensemble vocale Odhecaton, effettuata dalle cantorie della basilica palatina di Santa Barbara a Mantova, sul pregevole organo Antegnati. Considerando il corista di 466 Hz, lo spartito della Messa è trasposto verso il basso di una quinta giusta (!). Questo fa sì che le due parti di soprano, affidate alle voci dei sedicenti controtenori, nei passaggi di tessitura grave neanche si sentano: letteralmente spariscono. Incredibile poi rilevare nel primo Kyrie un passaggio a vuoto nella parte del tenore secondo, e precisamente alle battute 17 e 18 (tra 0:40 e 0:45). E' un'imitazione stretta tra tenore secondo e soprano primo, dovrebbero sentirsi le due voci accavallarsi con uno sfasamento di un quarto di battuta, come una sorta di eco, ma la proposta del tenore che anticipa il soprano ad un certo punto non perviene! Ricompare improvvisamente in imitazione del tenore primo a metà di battuta 18, peraltro in percettibile ritardo! Fosse un live, capirei, ci può stare una svista. Ma in un disco ufficiale! La cosa mi lascia a dir poco perplesso, trattandosi di una formazione vocale tanto blasonata.

    Inécoutable : lancinant solo de soprano avec accompagnement de clusters faisant un matelas de gloubiboulga à la voix fade du chanteur.

    Well... This is not as good as other things he composed. Is this early work?

    • @michaellambert8306
      @michaellambert8306 3 года назад +3

      Published in 1610. It was written as an imitation/parody piece of polyphony from 16th c. Maybe that's why it seems uncharacteristic.

      @@Wilantonjakov Here is one sublime example of Monteverdi’s secular works (there are many), much much different from the mass we’re listening to: ruclips.net/video/1sD184gMfYQ/видео.html
      Monteverdi wrote operas as well as sacred music, and my favorite from the latter list is the Vespro della Beata Vergine (Vespers of the Blesses Virgin), which is completely different in character from this….there’s a large choir and an orchestra with brass instruments!
