Am I to understand that we have a Bach conductor who does NOT race and showboat through the music and allows the flow of the music to happen naturally with gentle dynamics??? My goodness, there is HOPE for mankind! I don't mean this sarcastically. Bravo.

Ja.

My father introduced me to bach, around 20 years ago. I have heard maybe 6, 7, 8 versions of this Cantata. This one is my favorite. --- Ahh, to be honest, there will be a moment when I start appreciating others even more. Until then, my heart is open to let in the gospel: "HERR, so Du willst Sünde zurechnen, wer soll bestehen?" and "Meine Seele wartet auf den HERRN, von der einen Morgenwache bis zu der anderen."

Bach wrote this after the great fire during his time in Mühlhausen in 1709. With the whole town and two churches burned to the ground,
scholars believe it was performed open air. Every family lost love ones. Imagine these devastated people doing church service in the midst of smouldering ruins listening to this.

It's the fist time I can hear such a beautiful interpretation of this Cantate which is one of my favourite. The conductor, singers and instruments are really serving the deep meaning of the words. In the third movement: "Ich hoffe auf sein Wort" they brightly manage to express the highest human feelings and questions about its place in the universe ! It's breathtaking ! And what a growing jubilation in the last movement "er wird Israël aus seinen Sûnden erlösen" !! Thank you so much !!!

    lass deine Ohren merken
    auf die Stimme meines Flehens!
    2 Arioso B & Choral S
    Bass:
So du willst, Herr, Sünde zurechnen, Herr, wer wird bestehen ?
    Sopran:
Erbarm dich mein in solcher Last,
    Bass:
Denn bei dir ist die Vergebung,
    dass man dich fürchte.
    Sopran:
    mit großem Weh
    In meinen Sünden untergeh,
    Noch ewiglich verzage.
    3 Coro
Ich harre des Herrn, meine Seele harret,
und ich boffe auf sein Wort.
    4 Aria T & Choral A
    Tenor:
Meine Seele wartet auf den Herrn
von einer Morgenwache bis zu der andern.
    Alt:
Und weil ich denn in meinem Sinn,
    Wie ich zuvor geklaget,
    Auch ein betrübter Sünder bin,
    Den sein Gewissen naget,
Und wollte gern im Blute dein
    Von Sünden abgewaschen sein
    Wie David und Manasse.
    5 Coro
    Israel hoffe auf den Herrn;
    1 Coro
Desde lo profundo clamo a ti, Señor.
Señor, oye mi voz, estén tus oídos
atentos a la voz de mi súplica.
2 Arioso [bajo] y coral [soprano]
    Bajo:
¿Si pidieras cuenta, de los pecados,
    Señor, quién subsistirá?
    Soprano:
Ten piedad de mí, con esta carga,
    quítala de mi corazón,
    pues tú la has expiado
en el madero con mortales dolores.
    Bajo:
Pues en ti está en perdón,
    para que seas temido.
    Soprano:
Y que yo, en mi gran pena,
no me hunda en mis pecados
    ni perezca eternamente.
    3 Coro

I love it but...why does everyone always wear black? I'm sure some people must break that tradition, but I've just never seen it.

Leonidas Diamandopoulos so that you can concentrate on the music and not on what they’re wearing!

Enrico Basso makes sense. Eastern Orthodox chanter robes are black and plain for the same reason.

People move too much when they play. It's distracting and takes away from the music.

I had a teacher who always told me that music starts in feet. You have to feel every note with all of your body for playing (or singing) it with emotion. So, for making music in a natural way, transmitting emotions, you need to move. If not you risk of doing it like a robot.

Hardly, it just says look at me. A poor substitute for actual musicality which is to be heard not seen.

They are not moving too much, I've seen worse

Do you find the conductor distracting?

    • @Biber0315
      @Biber0315 6 лет назад

Here, not particularly. For all the movement the instrumentalists are making they don't need the conductor. Granted, I do agree with the previous reply, I as well have seen worse.
At least they're not bare foot...
