- The complete session recorded by Killing Joke on 17 October 1979 for the John Peel show on BBC Radio 1 and broadcast on the 29th of that month. This recording is taken from the F50 repeat on 20 December 1979.

And the quality of the performances and recording are always striking.
Where did the bands record them and who were the engineers?
There’s nothing sloppy about them. Energetic, yes. But clean and lethal
written12: I believe that it was John Peel, himself, who recorded, produced and engineered these performances in his BBC studio -- perhaps with help from college interns getting their feet wet in the broadcasting or recording industry(-ies)
@@shruggzdastr8-facedclown I was told by one of the engineers at BBC Maida Vale studios-where the sessions were recorded, that John Peel himself never made an appearance at the recordings, apart from one occasion, when Jimi Hendrix recorded for him.

There's not many bands that could not be copied as the sound was all their own; this is one of them!
1919 had a good go at recreating the 1980's KJ sound.

So lucky to have sen them live at the Lyceum in London in the early 80s. What had been a posey arty gig of Pink Military and Lilliput and the like turned into a massive pogo riot when KJ came on. Never seen anything like it before or since. Brilliant.

Wish to Christ the BBC would get their finger out of their arse, do something decent for a change and give this and subsequent sessions the vinyl release they deserve.
They are released on C.D along with various other peel sessions they did. Vinyl would be cool though .
I did contact Strange Fruit many yrs ago but was told its very difficult to release some sessions as various labels & or management & band members wouldn't always allow it.
