- Amtrak Surfliner Cabcar #6906 just got a couple new-coned bells on its K5LA horn. The ones with the cones over them were previously cracked about a month or two ago. The cracked bells actually gave the horn a great new sound. Here is the newer version of the horn with some cones on it. I think it still sounds relatively similar to the cracked ones, maybe not as good, but I still like it! Sure is better than a lot of other K5LA's on the Surfline nowadays.
Shot #1...Amtrak #577 pulls out of San Diego with some good horn action!!
Shot #2...Same train, this time at Sorrento Valley with a bit more speed behind it!

Now after watching clips of 06, it really did sound similar to the 2301, just with a better tone.

2021 Update, the cones have been removed and replaced with new bells, so now this unit sounds boring, a lot like 6900, I absolutely loved this horn cause of how much character it had
the new K5LA on 6906 sounds like the K5LAs on the cab cars on the capitol corridor/san joaquin (the ones that dont look like surfliner cab cars)

6906 is in California, not Chicago.
I heard that in Chatsworth a little while ago. It sounds good. Not too different. Great video Chris!

Ugh the Superliner behind 6906 looks ugly in that paint-it makes more sense to actually keep them in PHIV since they can shuffle the cars around...
