HOW I WENT FROM OBESE TO 8% BODY FAT!
#fitness #food #gym
Story time: I was born with a congenital heart defect that I knew would require an aortic valve replacement at some point in my life. My cardiologist told me in May of 2021 that I was extremely close to needing a replacement valve, most likely in 2022. Knowing this was the case, I committed myself to getting into the best shape possible before my open heart surgery. On January 1st, 2022, I weighted 239.4 lbs as a 5’8” 31 year old man. When I checked into the hospital for my surgery on August 29th, 2022, I weighed 151 lbs and was in the best shape of my life. Nearly two months and a successful Ross Procedure later, I’m almost 100% off restrictions and am looking forward to progressing from weight loss focused exercise to muscle building as soon as I’m medically cleared. Will, thank you for all of your entertaining, hilarious, and extremely helpful videos. They’ve been critically important for me throughout this most transformative year.
Champion 💪🏾 epic journey ur on glad to see u winning
I had the Ross procedure about 15 years ago. And feel great now. It will take some time, but you’ll be back accomplishing more goals very soon! Congrats and keep going with all your goals. All the best to you!
what a king
Absolute king moment. Wishing you the best my man.
Well done m8, wishing you all the best for the future, love from 🇮🇪
Can’t stress enough how helpful you are to the fitness community! No drama, good information, and hilarious!

You say if you ever died again like this you would want to do intermittent fasting but trust me it’s far from ideal and if you’re doing a Bodybuilding Competition Next year and you do for example a 16 hour fast every day you’re without question gonna show up with less muscle then if you eat 4-5 meals a day And spread your meals out.
Great message at the end. Be sure to watch the entire video.
Died lol
I love watching a Will Tennyson video and scrolling down to see his dad always watches and leaves a comment ❤
Exactly the whole point of fasting is Apoptosis. Using catabolism as a weapon for the obese. But during these times its even more important to maintain Salt, Potassium and Magnesium while fasting.
COOKBOOK
So you're saying your body is going to metabolize muscle protein with intermittent fasting instead of using ketones, fatty acids and sugar?
Really?
Keep on moving onwards and upwards Will! You are a beacon of light and positivity in the fitness community 💪🏼
I don't know why but I'm always surprised by Will's wit lmao. You're one of the few people that make RUclips worth it. Thank you for being a good influence, Will!
I always wonder how these guys have so much time in the day to devote to 2 workouts, making these meals, plus work. With a family, working 40 hours, then helping the kids out, I'm lucky if I get 4-5 workout sessions in a week at the gym. The results are much slower, but in the past 2 years, I'm much closer to my goals.
Man, I'm saying. Idk how they find the time to do all of this. I know it's possible with insane discipline and planning but still...🤯
I work full time, with a family, and my wife works mornings a few days of the week. I wake up at 6 am to go to the gym for an hour before returning home to feed my son, that's the only time I can consistently go. I could wake up later when she's off but I feel like that wouldn't work well going back and forth like that. I'm proud of myself considering 8 months ago I was a pothead and was high and did nothing all day and now I'm completely substance free minus caffeine. Idk the point of this but it takes a lot of commitment and discipline to stay in the gym in our situations, so be proud of yourself.
These fitness youtubers don't work, they make their living through youtube, hence having all the time in the day to do all of these things.
This is them work, they dont work anywhere else, youtube is the work, so its not for us
Guys dont compare to these guys.
When you love something like these guys (and i) do, youll find the time. I was going to school full time and getting two workouts in because i LOVE it. I live for exercise...My english teacher also did as she had 180 students in highschool and yet, she'd still make time for her 6 mile runs 4am morning. Why? Because she loves it. When you love something, you have a will, and if you have a will, youll find a way, always.
This vid feels so personal Will! Feels like the content back in the old days, and what a trip down memory lane. Appreciate you dude, thanks for the upload!
Loved the end speech
Will's videos are like a roller coaster of emotions, first I burst into laughter with his sporadic comments and then he gets to you at the end with a very touching pep talk.
He took too many bulking supplements
The end speech could have come from myself. I was desperate to get big in my early 20's, after many years of working out I still wasn't happy with how I looked. So I tried AAS and got irreversible health problems. Now, nearly 20 years later, I do not understand how I could ever gamble my health for the very small gain of getting approval from other people.
Stumbled onto this video while trying to start my weight loss journey & man your videos are not only engaging and informational, but also funny and entertaining 😂👍
"Same as my right hand" is a power move. Legit really funny and cool fitness content. Never thought I'd say that.
Degeneracy is neither cool nor funny
OMG EDDIE⁉️⁉️
Hell yes! These are the videos I so dearly miss! I've been a fan admittedly more in the beginning of your journey than now because I found your story so relatable to my own. You were so motivating and such a fun person to follow. Not that you aren't now, but the OG Will is the one id love to model my motivation around. As again its such a relatable type of lifestyle for certain people. The day in the life videos were my favorite thing of all. Im really happy for you Will that you've come so far in life. You deserve it bud! Thanks wholeheartedly from a longtime fan of yours for being a motivating life changing piece of my life. Your videos helped me change my life and gave me something to look forward to/someone I could connect with in my mind at least 😆
Will is the ONLY fitness youtuber I actually watch nowadays. Down to earth, honest, and fun; are the words I would use to describe u Will. I really do hope your platform grows even more, and hopefully you'll stay the same!

I’ve lost 75lbs since subscribing a little over a year ago, 305 down to 230. Thanks for the continued motivation with these videos and your positivity. Keep it up, Will
Did you ever have snack/sweet cravings? If so, did you just go cold turkey, or find healthier, still satisfying alternatives. Snacking is one of my main issues
@@heddlestenphotography3189 Honestly I still eat majority of the foods I used to eat. The only difference is the frequency and amount that I eat those foods. Time of day also plays a huge role as you don’t want those snacks sitting in your stomach while you sleep, you ideally wanna burn them off early in the day.
@@heddlestenphotography3189 I still eat some of the same foods, just track your calories and eat whatever falls within your calorie goals.. and Diet Soda is 👑
@@jesus194566 I stopped drinking soda years ago, lacroix is my best friend lol. My only issue is sweet temptations and snacking, I find it easy to overdo it, or choose the wrong options. Especially when I’m chilling in between college classes. Either way, I love seeing the progress everyone else makes, it’s good to see others doing well, so congratulations:)
weird, why would you do that?
Thank you for this Video. I been in a depression struggle with my weight and I lately been pushing my self every night and morning working out. Videos like these remind me why I should keep going.
Don’t stop and don’t get discouraged. Remember what u want to become and I know you’ll get there !

dude this video is so good and well put together, thanks!
Great words at the end Will. I went through my whole twenties doing things because society or people wanted me too. When I hit 29 I realized that I’m done with it and started my own path and now even though my path is tough. I am so ridiculously motivated and excited that I’m living it because I want to and not because I FEEL like I have to.
I lost a bunch of weight a year or two ago, and since then it’s been purely downhill, I gained almost all of it back, and I’m back at square one. Im definitely not discouraged though, and watching your videos has always helped encourage and inspire me a little more for the day :)
hope its going well man
hope you got lean again! remember it’s not a diet it’s a lifestyle change
Same boat as you. About 2 years ago I was in the best shape of my life. Then I changed jobs and suddenly didn't have the time to go the gym anymore. I've started working out again recently. It's hard but I always think "I did it once I can do it again."
How did it go
This is so good, very relatable, and the punchline is so true! Thank you for sharing!
That last pep talk you gave us ... Wish I found all that out sooner. Unfortunately the choices that I made were destructive. Became a fetynal addict and yes, it's effected me for the rest of my life- my body, physical health, brain, mental health my spirit... Everything. And now I'm old at 36 with many, many regrets. I never took that path as the fitness instructor that I always wanted to be. Been digging my way out of my negative addictions with positive addictions aka working out. That last part of the video though was literally the best part. Wise words of wisdom. The sooner the better to realize all that though and it was hard for me to see all that when drugs made me so blind. Great vid!!
Love the genuine messages/takeaways you give to people at the end of your vids
I liked this video very much, and the ending was surprisingly enlightening. As you get older your priorities change and that is just part of life and you gotta do it for you. Thanks, Will!
Fantastic closing thoughts. Thank you for that.

Gaining weight is hard too, and many times it stays out of the limelight. Congratulations on your transformation, man!
My girl feels extremely sick when she takes showers because she can't handle standing up for long. I sadly cannot take as much care of her as i wanted to because we're both currently unemployed and cannot afford to move in together. With her living quite far (over an hour by car with no traffic), she barely has the will to take care of herself as she often has no appetite or feels like she "doesn't deserve someone like me" and begins feeling sad and stops eating and drinking water, do you have any advice on how you managed to become healthier that i could pass on to her? She's also been underweight most of her life and although she already improved a lot i still wish i could make her feel better. Sorry for the long ass essay, but if anyone reads, thanks in advance.

I 100% agree with the less sets more gains for naturals. I was getting about 25 sets per week on chest and now I’m down to 15 sets per weeks total but my bench went from 300 to 335 within a couple months of tuning it back. I was intermittent fasting as well. Awesome video!

It's scary how similar your routine is to when I was getting super lean a few years ago, waking up at 5am, jogging 5 miles then I'd go to work, lift for an hour and a half after work. Run another hour. Then I barely ate any food, it works but is no where near maintainable. Big fan Will. You should do a training in the style video of Dorian Yates or Mike Mentzer. Would be cool to see how you felt doing to failure training!
I use a similar routine as well, definitely effective for cutting but it just takes finding a balance between calories and exercise to find a maintenance level.
your videos have helped me through major times in my life, your videos are really amazing, keep up the awesome work will!

This is the one I very much needed to hear.. thanks garage workout man…
I’m not in the 40’s yet so I need to start now. Like you said Im just tired of being sick and tired the energy I had isn’t gone it’s just in bust now and recovery time for anything takes major amounts of rest.
It’s about 60 pounds I need to get rid of. But I’m not committed to my cave man workouts because I can’t see the goal there’s no girl I’m chasin. Lol. I’ve slowly but surely started grabbing stuff around the house and lifting it. I gotta do more of that. I’ve got some empty bleach bottles pretty big I filled with water other than that it’s a few push ups and sit ups..
Thanks again bro because I was startin to feel like it was to late for me.
I love this guy!!! So much charisma and confidence in public spaces too
This is the best example of how to burn fat. The dude is always on the move, walking a lot before his breakfast. If you can't get in some gym time, just find a way to walk anywhere you can throughout the day, and eat a sensible diet. It all adds up and you'll see visible results after just a month!
Great video Will, honest information and a wealth of slapstick one liners! 😀 That bit at the end was a great message. A lot of folks into fitness are constantly bombarded with the mentality of getting 'ripped' and "shredded" (both sound rather painful) but they don't realize that is primarily a state gotten into for a special purpose, such as a bodybuilding competition or a movie role. I would imagine trying to live in that zone 24/7 could potentially be quite unpleasant.
I went from around 55% bf down to 18%. If you ever get discouraged, just remember it’s worth it in the end

Love you for always being honest Will! Being that lean is no joke! It’s important for people to see how hard it can really be.
Im really enjoying your videos. You have turned into my favorite RUclips content creator. Interesting point about the perception of eating disorders. I know uou were halfway joking. I started my journey in September and now people are acting like I have an eating disorder just because I stuck to Keto ever since.

Am I the only one who really enjoys the videos where Will gives more insight about himself and his life whether that be his training, diet, or everyday routines?
I feel like I'm alone in this but I can't say I feel inspired by this video. Just exhausted. It sounds like you have to put in so much work to look good, while I can barely encourage myself to work out once a week. I don't have the energy and drive to it, even though I know that I need to lose weight. That lack of drive is my biggest obstacle and I don't know how to get over it. It just make me feel like it's a hopeless endeavor.
I love your content. Dont ever change, man🔥
this is a great vid. i remember when wills routine was like this. i am someone struggling to get lean and shed about 15lbs. sadly, i cannot mimic his strict daily routine and diet when having to be a peon and go to work every day. i have a tough time getting into a solid 3-4 day routine at the gym let alone also go to orange theory and get 20k steps a day. 10k steps is over an hour of walking. i think for people like me who struggle to be this active it is all about the diet. i need a solid bfast, lunch, and dinner and these are some great ideas to work off of. being that active is definitely the hardest part. and theres the whole building muscle part too
Start off slow! its a journey! been doing this 5 years, and I failed a thousand times, but taking it day by day, building it brick by brick is the best way. Start off small, get comfortable with being uncomfortable (for me that was the gym it was scary for a newbie like me). Start off by 15 min walks or workouts, it may not seem like lot, but gotta start somewhere, Its all about the journey to the destination! :)

If you track your calories you will certainly get rid of it. Use a calories maintenance calculator to determine what is healthy for you. If you see Will's previous physique in this video compared to what he ate you would never believe he could stay at that weight and body fat %. It is absolutely crazy how filling food can be without being 1,000 calories per meal. I wish you all the best
The editing was on point. Iron Musket went crazy on this one.
Thank you 🤝
from a fellow tdotonian this video was perfect. Hit everything. Motivating and Discipline building skills taught.
I had almost the exact same routine.
IF for 12-16 hours a day, i worked out while fasting and had a physically active job. I managed to maintain that lifestyle for a year and my body got very lean, but as time went on, my body needed more fuel and i started feeling sluggish most of the time. It taught me that being lean, will not always feel great from the inside. I eat normally throughout the day now and i feel so much better. It came with some weight gain ofcourse, but what’s important is that you feel well and you’re healthy.
Will your editor is simply amazing. Big ups
Thank you 🤝

I just discovered you today with this video and i am hlad i did! So mich fun to watch your videos,
I like how you explain that sacrificing treats such as pizza and beer is not an eating disorder but instead making healthier choices. It just seems like in society today people are quick to call making food sacrifices an “eating disorder” and straight up shame you.
It’s because they are insecure. They eat their wings and beer and tease you for ordering a salad and water but really they are jealous.
Reading this as I ordered a pizza oh faaaark 🤣. I don't have an eating disorder I just make bad choices
@@HIB801 Trust me, people are not jealous of those ordering water and a salad.
@@blaynegreiner9365 right…
It may not be an eating disorder but it can be body dysmorphia, Tristyn lee shows immense signs of this, always staying dangerously lean all year around and this makes you feel tired and hungry all day, every day. Your hormones are depleted, you have less energy to do anything else because all you focus on is how your body looks. With everything in life comes balance, working out naturally stimulates balance in the body regardless of what you eat. As you become fitter, your will not feel like eating a lot of fatty or processed foods. This happens as long as you are committed to exercise, you can truly eat what you want.
Comedy and fitness. No one does it better than Will.
Your channel has come a long way. Of course, the first thing that's noticeable is how the editing is tighter and more consistent, that's true. But that's not really my point. Your presence in camera is so much more assured, and the content of your videos are now multi-faceted. It really shows that you're taking a creative/deeper interest in creating this unique content. Not every episode will be the same, but watching your growth on the channel, and as a creator are very noticeable. You are now a top tier youtuber due to your talent alone. You should be very proud.
i fucking love how you incorporate jokes so seamlessly into your videos its hilarious, great video.
I enjoyed this video so much, and actually wrote down the workout you did here. I’ve been on a heavy cut recently at 1200 calories, at 6’2” 200 lbs, and it’s been rough. But the end of the video made me think about why I was really doing it, my perspective was definitely changed.
your calories should never drop below 2000
@@tussharmahajan1828 I obsess with seeing fast results , and this is the best way for me to do that without feeling unhealthy.
Pushing your calorie low will work. But your losing way too much muscle given your size and your cutting calorie. Metabolic damage is temporary but it does happen. I’m sorry but you really need to be cutting on higher calories, for a person of your size. I don’t understand why you would ever go below 1500
@@isaiahgonzalez8845 idk too much about working out and everything, I just like 1200 because I lose weight fast obviously. I went from 235lbs to 165 lbs back in high school doing 500 a day, and fasting for 5 days every other week.
@@braydenpage5964 dude, you have the commitment to make diet work. I really recommend you slow down your weight loss and start focusing on exercise. It’s will be slower, but you won’t feel as much like death on a daily basis, and as you start exercising you will lose muscle mass per cut. Here’s the breakdown, when gaining weight, when working out properly on a mild calorie surplus, you gain weight and muscle. When you lose weight, you lose fat AND MUSCLE but how much muscle you lose depends on how fast you are losing weight and if you are working out as you lose weight. Every weight gaining and loss cycle should end up with you having more muscle than the prior. What you are doing is probably just destroying any muscle you gained as you went up in weight because the rate you are losing weight is just too fast. The typical recommended maximum weight loss rate is 1% per week. For you that is a max loss of 2 pounds per week. That’s a 1000 calorie deficit per day. No matter how you work the number you are considerably under that at 1200 calories at 6’2”
Currently starting my 5th month of cutting. Down 20 lbs, looking good however still waiting for the lower abs to come through, crazy grind. Was expecting to be done in 2-3 months TOPS.

Story time: I am 13 (turning 14) and I have been doing the One Punch Man training everyday since October 11th 2022 and do Martial Arts on top of that to burn extra calories. I actually managed to gain a full step of abs, thick thighs, and vainy arms. My mindset was that I must keep doing it no matter how hard it gets and do it like my life depends on it. Getting stronger is the top priority for me and I am willing to be late for school if I didn’t complete the workout until my bus arrived. However, I do find it hard to get a healthy diet as I am only 13 and don’t know how to cook, the only restaurants where I live is McDonald’s and Burger King. Literally the only thing I eat is Beef Jerky and whatever fruits and vegetables I can find. For all those people out there finding it hard to become healthy, ripped, etc, remember this. You have to stick to it no matter what and you don’t get it easily.
I recall many years ago, at a temp job where I had to go to orange theory and help install those foam floor mats. I got so nauseated by whatever is in those foam pads new. I had to fight not to pass out. I think whatever is in those foam pads, is the same as what is in anesthesia. As I get the same reaction after waking up from anesthesia. Thought you should know that.
