YJ spring-over conversion is a great, comfortable, flexy strategy for Samis. Pinnable missing link shackles is a good idea for the street for safety. Missing link action at high speed in a turn isn't great on the highway, lol. Awesome for increasing droop on a technical trail. I left my '86 street/ trail Sami with 31's and the lightness/ agility theme continued with stock axles. The Petroworks transfer case gave lower gears in both high and low range, allowing me to hit a sweet spot in final drive ratio without having to touch the diffs. My Sami rock buggy however, had full Toyota axles on 35's, lincoln-locker in the rear, lol.
Pretty sure when you said 6.4 in the axles you were referring to the transfer case gears as the lowest toyotas go is 5.71 and 6.4 is a transfer case gear. Also, you forgot to pull the pin on the shackles when flexing it out.
You are correct, the transfer case has 6.4:1 gears and the axles have 4.10 gears. The pins give a couple more inches of flex. Enough to notice but not enough to get overly excited about.
Had similar w/over axle lift however not quit as customized 31 x 10.5's in 1994. Top speed was 55MPH with tailwind lol. However let the air out of tires and one of the best true 'rock crawlers' around.
The axles aren't running 6.4s,,, that's the T-Case gears. I've built a few of these this way. Best set up ever!! For a Sammi that is. Did the same thing to a 4 door Tracker also. THAT is my favorite!!!! Actually have a stock one I'm restoring and a 94 with A/C and stock fuel injection I'm building as well. I have a set of Toyota axles that I may put under it OR build another 4 door Tracker like before. I'm leaning towards the Tracker. It's a lot more work, but SO worth it!!!!!!!!
That bumper that you said he custom made looks suspiciously like a Dr. Z bumper kit. So I think you meant to say he welded the bumper together because the pieces come in pre cut and ready to weld
The tires are on backwards. This would channel water inwards causing it to hydroplane and drift on smooth roads. On dirt it would pull loose dirt to the center causing it to loose traction rather than move loose dirt out from under the tire and grip hard surfaces.
I don't see any bump stops to prevent too much up travel and stopping the leaf springs from going inverted. What kit was used to fit the Toyota axle onto the YJ's?.
yep, lacking bump stops is common on these. I have no idea why people dont use them, my samurai build is getting them. If i dont put stops in, i'll be bashing in the oil pan on the VW diesel engine. as for the kit, it was likely just trailer spring perches and a Zuks Offroad YJ swap kit. You have to cut the perches off of the toyota axle as they are set wider than the hangers on the samurai chassis. the steering looks like it is a Sky Manufacturing toyota to suzuki high steer kit as well.
Hey guys I just moved to Appleton and I’m looking for some places in Wisconsin to go off-roading. I didn’t realize you were in my backyard. I just moved from Florida so any suggestions you have would be great.
361Gonzo Welcome to Wisco! And yeah definitely, a few pretty cool areas to go wheeling around here. Send me an email at info@trailbuiltoffroad.com and I can send you some information! Thanks! ~ Josh from TrailBuilt
Hey, hit up Wisconsin Jeep Owners Group for events such as Jeep Camps up near Crivitz. They wheel the pipeline and local forest roads 3 times a year(summer, fall and winter camps). I wheel a Subaru Loyale and I'll be heading up Saturday if all goes well
Toyota hilux 1995 axles? And how wide this toyota axles? Wider than samurai axles?I build my samurai and important to me this information! This track is look so good! I congratulation this!! Mine will be like that!🤘🏻😉
Easiest vehicle in the history of mankind to steal!! You don't need anything but a strong arm and a lighter to be in the vehicle and out of the driveway in less than 10 seconds!! Love the samurai but if you get one or own one invest in aftermarket ignitions and a good alarm system!! I stole hundreds of these things in my younger years so I know!! ( I did my crime and served my time and just letting y'all know to be conscious about the vulnerability of this particular vehicle!!)
Looks amazing no matter how many times watch this
kouly Senpai Thanks! Was fun to shoot as well. 😎🤘🏼💯

Neither suzuki has made a video of this level with a samurai. 👍👍

handsome car
Cool rig! Amazing its still running the 4 banger.
Skitter302 Heck yeah it is! 😎🤘🏼💯
Would someone be able to tell me where they got the bracket for the side mirrors? That would be an idea setup for my samurai. Thank you

Nice build mate

This vehicle is super boss something I want to ask differential which model is toyotan
Seriously want one
Very nice build .if you put 38s on it you can float like a boat.
Sure is, and great idea! haha
does it get more flex if you remove the pins on the extended shackles?
It allows a couple more inches of flex by allowing the droop side to drop out a little bit more than if it was pinned.
Is this narrow enough to fit on the UTV trails in Upper Michigan??!!! 😁

Suspension?
Is there an IG handle for the zuk owner?
BrettBrecklin is the IG user name!
what transmission and transfer case is on it ?
Stock transmission and stock transfer case with 6.4 gears.
Axles do not have 6.4 gears because they don't make axle gears that low

Dr Z front bumper, shock hoops and front frame reinforcements...
I would like to put 35x12.5 on R15x12 😀
Man if I ever need to flex on a fork lift this is the set up for me
are coil springs or leaf springs better?
coil with a 3 or 4 link set up is better than leaf
on 0:39 you can see your plastic plate under the radiator is flying

What model axles
86-95 Toyota pickup rear axle and an 85 Toyota pickup front axle
Toyota went to IFS in ‘89.
‘89-‘94 real axels are wider so you would need wheel spacers in the front .

What did you do for a rear drive shaft I have the same lift on my samurai using the factory samurai drive shaft on the rear but have bad vibration
CV shaft from Tom Woods
Good project, but change your welder man! The welding are NOT clean at all,
Thanks for the tip!
When I heard jeep wrangler leaf springs..............I can feel the jeep COMMUNITY saying.......HOW DARE YOU!!!!
Ehh not really.
It's not a Corvette motor in a mustang type of thing. It's just some springs. Lol
