Love the zohan quote haha
I would be incredibly greatful if you could do a video showing us how to do a bump out (preferably kitchen with double brick, extending to under the eaves) so it would include building a header, and prepping the walls and frames for windows etc.
Thanks you helped me out in this life. i appreciate it.
I've saved myself close to $10,000 by following your videos, which gave me the skills and confidence to do things myself, rather than hiring contractors. My dad & uncle are some of the least handy people on the planet, so I didn't grow up with this. Thanks.
Nice work! Cheers Edwin!
I want your story to be mine. Looking at renovating a place that was built all builder-grade in 2007. The cost of a contractor for 3 baths and a kitchen is giving me heartburn.
@@seapeajones good luck! I bought a 1950s place. Had to rip out the bathroom because it had rotted. Some of the joists needed replacing, lots of stuff needed drywall patching through the house, took out the second fireplace & chimney, rendering over that spot. Even had to replace some of the drywall.
Just think about what you need done, see if Jeff's covered it (sounds like he might've), watch the videos a few times and maybe you'll feel ready to tackle at least some of it.
Ditto!
Electrician, shows up on Monday:
"What happened to that box above the sink for the disposal switch?"
Single mama of two teens here! Just bought a home and don’t have the finances after my new purchase to pay contractors AND save for these soon to be college bound teens. Your videos are incredibly helpful for someone like me! Thank you so much for sharing your skills, tips, and tricks. You have no idea how much you’re helping everyday people on a very low budget! 🙏🏼💛
3:06 THIS is how you’d make homemade pasta, or bread! If using eggs, would put them right in center of “volcano” & break yolk, then go about incorporating flour etc…..
Isn’t just fun & cool that “the trades” bridges other industries & some ppl don’t realize it; it’s SO COOL!
Frosting a cake……ever skim coat, ever add piping decorations to a cake, know how to caulk….all these use “similar” skills & again; it’s SO COOL!
✌🏻
Cheers my Friend!
Brilliant as always! I feel like sometimes you can't believe that people don't know the stuff you teach, but we don't! And your tips are so helpful!
Wow, thank you! Cheers Margaret!
That cut the wall business is pure genius at work! You make this stuff look so darn easy!
Thank you! Cheers!
Love these videos. Remodeling my wife's art studio and have decided we are doing this slow and right. First is patching all the nail holes. So many nail holes.
A great video from a man who has done a little bit of drywall over the years. A true pro!! Thank you!
Great tips! I've been drywalling and laying LVP this week. Your videos have been a huge help for this first-timer.
Glad to help. Cheers Maren!
Nobody can explain it the way I need it explained except for you. Appreciate all your videos man.
I absolutely love your channel. You share very valuable information for us rookies.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and tips! :D
You rock! Mad mud and patched drywall today for the first time ever.
I remodeled my entire master bath (5x7 so not a huge room) and anytime I would mix power mud I would use my hawk like you though instead of sprinkling it like a cake I'd knock the ridges into the water and then run my knife up the sides similar to a snow truck up a hill. It would fall in and I'd have a pretty good consistency one it was all done. Took me a bit to develop that technique but it works for me.
Thanks to your videos you gave me most all the knowledge to demo and rebuild that room for around 2k and adding 6k to my home's value.
This saved me so much time! Thank you!
Extremely valuable lesson for this situation. many thanks
Always great to get your tips and tricks. I take a break and watch. Knowing it will be quick. Thanks Jeff
Thanks 👍Cheers William!
Jeff, I have seen a number of your videos, and I have really enjoyed them. I have also added a number of videos on my channel: Hustle and Fun. Keep up the excellent work and keep those videos coming!
Been watching your drywall tips on loop 😁
Awesome! Can’t wait for the next part. Thank you.
Saturday we do the backsplash. with only a pair of scissors. Cheers!
Nice. Fast & simple. Great video!!
Bout to do some drywall repairs here. 7 kids and drywall .. anyway. Gonna get some good practice. Picked the hawk up like you suggested and a bag of 25 and Im gonna handle it today or tomorrow.
Concerning the drywall mud mixing, I find it easier to mix larger batches that are too much for hawk and too little for buckets. Buckets suck because round. But, there's always a butt, once roughly hydrated, I split it and mix to final on the "hawk" or mini hawk (or large trowel, point of view)
I’m literally practicing your on-hawk mixing technique. Mix, throw in garbage, mix throw in garbage… Powder everywhere, but I’m getting there.
You have amazing technique! Very even and deliberate strokes
Thank you! Cheers! Years of developing a rhythm.
Thanks for the update on mixing the drywall mud, love your content have a good day, later.
Thanks 👍
Jeff you have helped me with a litteral tons of tips, 2 years ago i started to need to do drywall repair. I watched a pretty much all your videos, i must say the volcano method at least for me a pretty bad idea, i must have spilled a full bag over a year and a half trying to pull it off. The little bucket keeps the untrained cleaner. Thanks for all the other advices! Cheers
Also now i can tape and finish a wall in 3 pass with no stress, i got there in about 30 sheets id say
That is awesome! Cheers Alex!
Awesome video! Thanks!
Hey Jeff, to start I got to say I love watching you and I'm learning so much from you... I'm doing a full remodel on a manufactured home that I purchased... I have a question for you. I have to replace some bearing studs that have Romex wire running through them, how do I replace the studs? Do I have to cut the wires out, re drill new holes and redo the wire, or is there a way around that without ruining the structure of the studs?
Thank you so much man there is no Chanel like yours anywhere Learned a lot from you
I appreciate that! Happy to share what I have learned.
That volcano method looks so cool! I need to practice that some day. 3:48
Love these videos…they always seem to pop up at the right time and in conjunction with a current task I’m facing in my home! Love it! I even invested in one of them hawks…takes a bit of practice but it’s much more efficient.
Once you get the hang of it, you never go back to the dark side!
This guy is awesome more so than diy people contractors could learn from this guy especially nowadays
Thank you for sharing sir !
Cheers!
Great video. I'm curious why you're using the mesh tape on this repair rather than the drywall paper this time. Is it the size, preference, or other?
Great tutorial on quick patch. I also like the 45 product, it took me years to switch from pre-mix one question though, are there wires in the box you beat into submission? I’m guessing this is a dead circuit therefore, not an issue, however, as a standalone, the context is missing.
Comencé a ver tus videos y son geniales Te Amoooooo
holy crp, that first tip was extremely helpfull!
thats the fastest and most hackiest tip I've seen lately, Jeff be going crazy with these insanely good tips lol
I got long deep sleeves. Cheers!
This is beautiful.
Thank you !
Cheers Shane!
Such wise advice
Cheers Flick!
I do not have the delicate touch I find using a tooth brush stick end (that I use to make sure my tools a as clean as I can get it specially when I have some dried bits) to mix in a pan works best with me to get it all mixed fast and well
Buddy you make every step look so easy, especially spreading it. Mine’s all globby and uneven.
Question.... So Useful video, stagger joints, thanks by the way... But i still messed up... I missed my cut by 1/8 or so around shower drop ear, so when i drilled drywall it cracked a little in a circle, i cut and pushed it up, but seems like the only thing holding the crumbled drywall is the paper... It feels a tiny bit weak around that hole... Do i scrap it and redo it or what would you do? Damn mold resistant drywall is 20 bucks each, hurts to just throw away unless I have to... What would you do? 😭😭😭
If you don’t have access to the Sheetrock 45 Drywall compound that’s only sold in Canada, what would you recommend for patching ?
Do you have a video on repairing cracked and released corners?
I like the bucket better than the volcano. Magic of editing shows you added more powder because you put in too much water 😂
LOL. Way to stick up for the bucket brigade. Time for you to get with the program and upgrade your tools. Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY lmao roasted em
@@darwinbodero7872 not quite
Bucket is 10x easier and cleaner. If I was making pasta and had a whole countertop, yea volcano is better, but I’m not making pasta. I’m mixing mud….
@@BootlegBosco You say that, but it is called a portapasta in some places. Maybe we’re mixing pasta after all~
Man you mixed up that mud like Bob Ross mixes his paint on his palette 🎨 👏🏻
I love how you make this stuff look like a piece of cake. Even this guys that never done any of this feels like he could become a DIYer. I better cause I just bought a fixer upper ;) thanks for the videos!
How’s that fixer upper going?
@@michaelmannucci8585 great, got it to a liveable condition. Now we moved in and tons of projects on my list. A lot of work.
Could I use sparkling for larger wall dents or should I use something different?
my issue is matching the texture of the original painted wall. Currently all my drywall fixes are ultra smooth and 1000% noticeable even after re painting the entire wall
Why are floating vertical edges ok here? Couldnt that lead to potential cracking after tile is installed? I would love not to have to figure out how to get blocking into my space since I cant easily reach the nearest stud behind my cabinets
Were the wires in the j-box live? Aren't you supposed to either remove them or cover with an access panel?
He keeps referencing the Zohan’s silky smooth, lol. Ty for the video just need a bit more before I diy drywall my home. I’m trying to figure out exactly how to make it blend and not be noticeable that I chose drywall over a gunsafe.
Hahaha that You Don’t Mess With The Zohan reference 🤣
Cheers!
2:30 @home renovision diy
Mr. Jeff, you ever add glue to your quickset mud when doing repairs/patches like this for “extra adhesion”; & what are your thoughts if adding glue to quickset mud?
Me, I add it & can tell difference; especially on some brands if quickest mud, when glue IS NOT ADDED…..so, I’m in the camp of, “ok to add”, as how was taught.
Cheers ✌🏻
I used to use glue if I am not confident in the surface I am working on. Now I simply prep with a flat oil. Cheers!
Watched lots of your excellent videos. Can you help?
Rented a drywall lift just long enough to place a tricky drywall sheet in my mom's ceiling.
I had prepared the rain-damaged area the day before & was able to completely remove a previous 4x8 sheet, revealing the surrounding sheet's edges.
The sheet to be replaced ran about 5"x12" under a cabinet's top edge. It was very hard to get the sheet in place due to the cabinet & a nearby light fixture.
I got the sheet close and installed enough temporary screws to hold the sheet ALMOST flush to the joists while I ran to the next town to return the lift because the rental time was expiring.
When I returned to install the final screws and completely seat the sheet, the opening was about 1/8" too tight.
I'm working alone and don't think I can remove the sheet & install it after sanding or rasping the edge down without a lift.
Is there any way to accomplish this without completely removing the sheet? I assumed the opening was perfect for a 4' width. Bad move, I know.
When you said silky smooth my mind immediately went to Zohan! Thanks for the great vid !!
Thanks for watching!
damn I went to the wrong Adam Sandler movie... I was thinking of billy madison when he's doing the shampoo vs conditioner in the bath
Great video! It’s especially great if you do it for a living or have a lot of holes. What about using spackle? I wouldn’t have a need for a whole bag, but a small can of spackle is pretty cheap. Are you opposed to it? And if so, why? I forget to mention this, so I’m editing my comment…. Before I knew what you were doing, I was waiting to see when and how you were going to cut that weird shape into your drywall. Then 🤯, you blew my mind when you cut the wall instead! What a brilliant way to do it and SO much easier. Goes right into the “work smarter, not harder” category. Thanks again and keep the videos coming!
spackle does not bond with the tape as well. use a small bag of quickset available in the paint department. Cheers!
The trick is to buy a 5$ bucket and sealing lid, label it with the compound(or compounds if you buy different bags) and store them. You'll have infinite supply of 20 45 or 90 compound, you should probably add some Plaster of Paris in there for the really tough jobs, BIN Shellac primer will then prime them anyway for paint.
Lolol this is why i watch your vids... always hoping there's a part where you mix mud on a hawk and talk shit about the bread pan trough guys!
I love Jeff, and he has taught me a ton concerning home renovations. However, that method of mixing quick patch is so much slower than a pan and an egg beater chucked into a drill, lol. For a DIYer it's fine, but of you do a lot of patch work-get a drill!
love the mixing drill idea. Gonna try that....but in a small pail. Cheers!
Helpful hints as always!!
Glad you think so! Cheers S G!
I still think the best drywall trick I've learned on this channel is how to work with 45 compound. It's saved me so much time when doing repairs, patches, filling holes, etc. I never had great results with the pink stuff or ready mix.
Great to hear! Cheers Nathan!
The pink stuff is spackle, that’s really only good on small holes and stuff where you don’t want it to shrink. Think, patching nail holes on newly installed trim, or patching a hole from a drywall anchor or nail that was hanging a picture. I used to try to repair drywall with it too and it’s a nightmare! Joint compound is the way to go with any patch larger than your little finger, I’d say.
@@artificiallyunintelligent4537 Even for small holes, I've gotten better results with 45. Plus, it was like $10 a bag that can sit on a shelf for years.
@@artificiallyunintelligent4537 Have to disagree, setting compound is more workable and will not shrink(significantly) either, it sands better too. Hell, I'd rather fill nail holes and small dents with freaking Durabond 90, since the work will be done once for all and it sands fine. Spackles and pre mix joint/all purpose sucks!
What's the difference between using mesh tape and drywall paper tape? And what happens if you use no tape at all.
The Bob Ross of home improvement
How do you get the mud so smooth on the first pass? It looks like you dont even need to sand it 😮
Did you bury a wire box in the wall, during your sheet rock patching?
yeah, can't do that around here!
What's the name of the powder mortar used?
Zohan approves silky smooth👍
Love it
Cheers!
Silky Smooth.. the zohan!
Don't mess with the Zohan!
I've always been told to pre-fill my joints before tape. Is that not needed because of the mesh tape, or because you were in a hurry?
just not needed if you are using a mud with a hardener. it does not shrink and crack.
Gotta love the Zohan reference
Cheers Matthew!
You Don’t Mess With The Zohan 😜
Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!
Silky smooth.. from Don’t mess with the Zohan!
Cheers!
Silky smooth: you don't mess with the Zohan
“Silky smooth” was in Little Nicky”? I’m pretty sure. It was John Turtuto who said it right?
Love the channel. Is no one going to mention this man's savage aggression toward electricians. I also harbor some, but instead of hammering their hardware into oblivion, I just throw candy wrapper and trash into their work bags.
you can mix a fast set mud in a pan just as fast or faster than you did, also that amount of mud can have been easily patched with 5 minute mud.
use 5 min if you want to. I use a hawk because it requires tools that give a better finish. pans mix mud all lumpy!
You got what it takes
Cheers!
Don't mess with Zohan. I want the hole world to be silky smooth.
Is not against the electrical code to smash and cover an existing electrical box with existing wires and hide it in the wall behind the drywall even if it's not live, should it not be properly removed?
The wires supplying the box are cut and removed from the panel. Cheers!
Hey, I tried looking are there any wood rot repair videos?
Not Yet Sol. I am sure we will get into some of that when we finally get to travel to the south . Cheers!
please do walls with texture
"it's easier to cut the wall to fit the drywall" is also true of the bodies you need to hide.
I only needed to hide 2 . Cheers!
Question, would a hair dryer be as effective as the heat gun, or would it blow away the mud? 🤔
any heat source will help to kick start the drying process. once it gets warm it hardens pretty fast! Cheers!
Yes, many painters only use a hair dryer
Mmm. Forbidden pasta. 😋
I don’t know who has time to mix mud on the hawk, I just get a mini bucket and knife, I have mud in precisely 20 secs.
yup that is how long it takes me as well.
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY you know you are lying right? 2:54-4:33😂😂😂
I love your drywalling videos, but...I tried finding a few videos of yours on texture matching, in particular eggshell or "orange peel" texture. I found stuff on popcorn ceilings, but nothing on matching orange peel textures. It'd be great if you could either tell me I'm nuts and that you've made one already, or perhaps upload one sometime.
The response I typically get from guys is that matching drywall texture is like matching paint: you often have to just redo the whole wall. But there's something subtle about the orange peel texture I'm missing and it never looks the right. It's a more subtle texture for some reason. I've tried the texture sprayer guns, but the closest I got once was trying different mud consistencies and just rolling it on. But it comes out uneven and inconsistent: it's never the smooth, soft, subtle bumpiness throughout.
Anyway, the short and sweet of it is: I'd love to see someone with your skills make a video on it. If you look around you'll see some, but they don't have your chops in general, and certainly don't have your video quality / production level.
Canadians don't do textured walls
@@DanielDickin Haha. Well, time for me to move to Canada, then.
Try this link. I sprayed a room at the farmhouse just so I could make this video. Cheers! ruclips.net/video/LLiKD1XTLc8/видео.html
That box looked like it had wires in it. Did you just create a hidden junction?
the bush is the biggest ;-)
LOL.
Don't mess with the Zohan
"Silky smooth" You Don't Mess With the Zohan.
Cheers!
Were there live wires in the box you buried? Where I live, that would be not in compliance with code.
They were cut from the back side and disconnected from the panel. Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY cool. I was concerned for safety. Thanks for clarifying. Additionally, thanks for your videos. I’ve been enjoying the fact that you share so many great tips. I’ve been working on a few remodeling projects and your videos have been excellent sources of knowledge. Thank you!!
Cheers Matthew, Happy to be of some help!
So what you're saying is I need to design a troff that can fit this niche use that I can market as a professional's secret weapon for the everyday DIY'er?
You do You George. Cheers!
Why do you need mesh?
Not cutting the patch to the hole is the best advice
Cheers!
Why not use compound instead
