I always come back to realizing that the best music I heard was in the 80s and 90s: Dead Kennedys, Nomeansno, CroMags, Carcass,....and Godflesh of course. Heard them first on John Peel driving home at night. Streetcleaner it was. Mindblowing at the time!
I have to agree for the most part but there are a few solid bands that r new like Inter Arma and Conjurer and Leeched also Thou and the Body to name a few. But there seemed to be lots from 80s and 90s more than now at least for quality. Idk

I just saw these guys in Vancouver. I'm so glad Godflesh is back together. New album is extremely heavy.
I will never forget the day I discovered Godflesh.
I was into death metal and would buy bands based on other bands cedits T shirts and the same label. I believe it was a T shirt worn on the Obituary Caude of Death cassette that had me seek them out.
Anyways, the only tape available was Slavestate and I was blown away both because it was absolutely nothing like what I expected and was unlike anything I had ever heard at the time.
I think at first I may have been abit bummed expecting the traditional double bass beating of contemparay death metal but was soon repeatedly listening to Godflesh during my many acid trips at that time(a quick listen to Deicide frankly scared the shit out of me which was cool but only in small doses).
I just went deeper into the menacing dark cauldran/chamber that was and is Godflesh the heaviest band on Earth.
It is like a modern version of fellow Birmingham Black Sabbath in its absolute sludge heaviness.
Absolute/pure/awesome/Godflesh.
+schlooonginator I have since ,of course, gotten older and my tastes have expanded along with Justin's and have discovered his many other brilliant works like Jesu, JK Flesh, Greymachine, Final etc.

God flesh (the name) definitely sounds like a death metal band. Always thought they were before I listened to them.

Same, I saw 'em at Adelaide. Had to travel from Perth (which with no job is a lot of money) and only bought Day One tickets solely to see these guys (though Soundgarden, FNM and Ministry were good). I only stayed in Adelaide for two nights I was so poor, rofl.
Ended up talking to both Justin and GC afterwards at the signing tent. Were really lovely guys and very humble.
Great to see Godflesh are still going, I can only pray I get to experience this live sometime.
The opening band or (person) was awesome too! He was like aaarrggghhhh screeechhhh arrrgchhhhhh yaaaaaahhhh urggggghhh while uncontrollably flagellating with the mic.
Prurient. Saw him too in Toronto. He does enjoy flailing about and generating mic feedback after screaming.
Fuck, and we got a really really really shitty local band... I wish he toured in Spain with Prurient.
Saw him as a suprise artist at a fest. It was glorious.

I got to hang with Justin several times in the early nineties and he was way cool and down to earth. Hope he's that same guy.

Do you guys have any more footage from this show? This is the best in quality/sound I have ever heard Godflesh on RUclips and watch this nearly everyday for its brutality. Literally no other footage does them any kind of justice aside from this one.

I don't know how they do it. Most of their songs just consist of chugging. You take any random -core band and their chugging, and they suck so fucking bad. Somehow, Godflesh can make the chugging so much more.
Good SOund ! Unfortunately we cannot see their visuals which are amazing and to me are an important part of their hypnotic and powerful show.

Broadrick is a fucking giant , I met then guys in here , Dalton from Jesu and GC Green and even saw Justin with them before that , well I´m 1.81 m and as he walked past me I looked like a midget. He´s also gaining some body mass , he´ll soon be looking more like Green , the Olive Oil - Obélix contrast between the two was pretty cool to watch on stage.
Justin finally put a little weight on the last few years, he looks like a normal human being. In the 80s & 90s he looked like an emaciated heroin addict.

So underwhelming live, no stage presence at all. if they had a full line-up (manually played digikit) it would make them waaaay better. love listening to them in the house,headphones etc but they just dont cut it live for me..
And before anyone gets all pissy, i saw these live for the first time in 1989 in liverpool royal court basement and many times supporting bands over the years, so yeah i have a little bit of knowledge of em.
They're not meant to have stage presence, just meant to make you hate mankind

A full lineup doesnt make stage presence. It's about movement and getting the crowd going. In the case of Godflesh, Its supposed to be like it is and the music and visuals is what gets people going.
