Compulsive viewing Mark. You had a really good session there with some lovely Chub. That big one really stripped line off the clutch. I like the little rod you use. It must be great for getting into those tight swims without catching the overhanging vegetation. Thanks for the film. 😊
Thanks Neil, yes didn't thst fjrdt chub go! The Darent rod is superb for pokey swims but still able to keep a nice action to it. Glad you enjoyed the video, thank you 🙏👍
Thank you Nigel and yes it was a welcome low pressure system so grabbed the chance to head out and fish with both hands. Glad you enjoyed the video too. Thanks for watching 👊🤜
Thank you Neil it was good to find them willing if a little tetchy, I did miss a couple of good bites, its funny at times the ones you feel you strike well are always the ones you seem to miss.
A most excellent video Mark, most welcome, thank you 😊👍 Barking dogs?? What barking dogs 😂😂😂 I just love your small river fishing, always a highlight of my day when you post, big thumbs up from deepest Dorset 👍
Thank you ever so much Clive and I know, they probably wanted to eat me alive, but the owner did turn up and actually even said sorry. Granted I may have lost a leg by then 😂
Wow that was a good day Mark, You show how important balanced tackle is playing that first fish, i thought you were going to loose it in those snags but you managed it, well done. regards Peter
Lovely small intimate close quarters fishing Mark…blimey that chub definitely looks like it had a dalliance with pesky otter brutal damage but at least it lived…getting so much harder these days with so much predation..3 latest trips for myself All blanks not a single sign of a fish hopefully that will change on my next outing.
Thanks and I use the resp pack for all my trips, they're lovely aren't they and hard wearing. I was very kindly about them by a fishing chap Mark Smith and they have been wonderful. I've got two on my bike as panniers and they've out lasted normal bike panniers.
my wife and i was perch fishing yesterday . 31 perch in 4 hours wife got one 2.1 kilos strangely non off us got any small ones under 1 pound . it was worth getting out in the cold weather and fish our favorit litle stream :)
Great video again as always. The timing couldn't be better as I too am planning a chub session tomorrow on a river not to far from me using exactly the same tactics and bait. I've never actually fished this river before despite only being a 20 minute drive away, so I'm quite looking forward to seeing what may be lurking down there.
Hi mark. Cracking season on a cracking little river. You’re an inspiration for many to make the effort to get out there and keep trying for the chunkier chub. Please get something warm to sit on and keep your butt dry or won’t just be piles of fish you get😮, thanks again for all the effort and time you put in for all of us to enjoy the vids mate, really enjoyed that one👍🏻👌
Cracking session mark mate 4 cracking chevin . The bread flake was a game changer for sure . I was so mesmerised watching the rod tip and the swirling water in the flow i jumped out my skin more than once when the bite and strikes came in😂 That poor chevin had defo incounted an otter me thinks hard as nails they are lol. Keep them coming mate fantasic as always 👊🏼
Thanks David and yes I won't leave home without some bread that's for sure. To be fair it is mesmerising watching the flow and the little quiver tip until you get shocked into action with a bite. Cheers for watching ❤
Great video mark, one of the reasons why I carry proposal with me is to treat injured fish giving them a better chance of survival… after all our rivers are full of crap.
Are those dogs guard dogs or farm dogs? they never seem to move away very far, oh wait, they're not dogfish are they?🤔Another great video Mark, and one I shall be thinking about when I'm fishing on the Sussex Ouse tomorrow, just one of those superb chub would suit me, I'd be entirely satisfied with that, and the added bonus of solitary fishing and some lovely birdsong, a flask of coffee and a couple of sarnies!👍You are the man Mark!
Cheers mate, I really need to start taking a flask again, I'm still taking cold fruit juice in January ❄️😂. I wouldn't personally call them farm dogs, their breed I don't consider really a guard dog breed either, certainly not judging by their barking and tail wagging, but maybe they are the tail wagging biting kind 😅, but they are definitely implemented as security by their owner whom I spoke to off camera as she had apologised to me and said that they're just doing their job, before she took them back indoors, actually she was very considerate. Also good luck to you on the Ouse, hope you get a bend in your rod and a nice chub or two ✌️.
Very nice Chub indeed. Great pity about the injured one though. There is ointment that can be put on an injured fish. Not sure it works though. Perhaps it would be good to carry some just to help it.
Thanks and that's a good point, you probably mean propolis and I usually carry that when carp fishing. Might be an idea to take the bottle with me. Good point thanks 👍
Great video mark, some fantastic chub, you did very well to get that first out ,the chub with the damage was definitely otter(bastards). Does your link leger hold bottom or does the flow sweep it round until it's near your own bank? Just ignore the dickheads who criticise you mark ,their just jealous or have nothing better to say, their seems to increasing numbers of people on social media thet like to say bad things about other people because they think its fun. Dont let them get you down brother ,keep up the good work mate . Looking forward to the next one. Best wishes mate.
Thanks Richard! Sadly it would seem like otter damage and I have seen one very recently at about 4 foot from my swim. I vary my link ledger but generally prefer my baits to roll and bounce and eventually settle.
i saw your first cast and its just occured to me in all my years fishing ive never legered upstream, it just seems like an odd thing to do, ive always just thought the slack id get on a bite would make me lose fish?
No with upstream fishing the drop in tension is generally when I'd hit the bite as the tip falls back and usually when up streaming and they pick up the bait they will drift downstream with it so you can gamble in striking and generally connect.
Great fishing as usual Mark! And nice to see one of your videos filmed (partly) in the daytime when we can all see so much more. Couple of questions: may I ask how much you are feeding - just the odd few bits of bread or something else? And, your strikes are lightening fast. Even when zooming in I can’t really see the quiver move on a take. Are you watching the line straighten instead? Thanks for posting!
Cheers mate to be fair I do a fair bit of my fishing in winter in the daytime then into dusk, depending how frozen I fancy getting 😂. I'm actually not feeding a great deal, to give some kind of example I'm maybe putting some tiny little compressed balls in each swim or none at all if I feel there's a fish to be caught with a single bit of bait. When switching to cheese paste I don't feed much at all maybe 3 tiny blobs per swim if that, as I'm a firm believer with paste baits if something is near by they will come pretty soon drawn by scent trail and general leak off. So in answer to your question not a lot is used per trip, I take a small zip lock bag of liquidated bread with me and usually 7 slices for the hook I will generally come home with 3 slices which will then go stale and get used in the next bag as bread groundbait. For bites yes I always focus on any line movement first it's helped me catch fish where maybe I may have missed on the tip, that isn't to say I'm not watching the tip which I am also and kind of alternate between the two or do both.
@@troutking7986you're welcome it was a good set of questions and those kind of questions may help anyone else out who had been wishing to ask similar.
Hmm a good question to be honest well this one in the video is from a brand known as Brandit they make some good sizes. My other jackets a second hand ridgeline all weather smock.
Bloody dogs barking😂😂😂. Great session once again Mark, quality fish & nice surroundings. As for the dogs, well I'd sooner listen to them than Trev the Rev with his leaf blower who has been a regular pain in the ears at one fishery I go to, his index finger must be down to the bone. Luvvin the channel 🐟🪱🎣👍
Haha thanks Smiffy, yes leaf blowers can be pretty repetitive to hear let alone noise in general! I'll take a couple of muzzles for them dogs next time I'm out 😂. Glad you're enjoying the videos.
Really enjoy watching your videos Mark and you are a natural in front of the camera. Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing the next one.
Great video, and beautiful chub, you did a good job to land the first one , well done 👍
Great watch @markerdwin just watched it to get in the chub mood for tmrw 🐟 well done 👍

Got Nene otters near me, looks like a bite from one. Lucky chubb, he will likely survive.

Watched it with a bacon sandwich! Sounds bloomin perfect to me mate! Cheers for watching 🙏
Hi Mark, another great video in adventurer mode looking for fish! well done see you soon
Merci Eric!
Hi Mark terrific session weather looked a little better this time out. Nicely filmed looking forward to your next trip tight lines!
Thank you Nigel and yes it was a welcome low pressure system so grabbed the chance to head out and fish with both hands. Glad you enjoyed the video too. Thanks for watching 👊🤜
Great video Mark. Can't beat a small river in winter especially with quality chub like that.
Thank you Neil it was good to find them willing if a little tetchy, I did miss a couple of good bites, its funny at times the ones you feel you strike well are always the ones you seem to miss.

Nice one mark some great fish can't wait for the weather to improve so I can wet a line take care mate Gary on the wet Isle of wight🎉
Thanks Gary it's typically early February isn't it, it has half a mind stuck in January still and can be a right moody one.
Wow that was a good day Mark,
You show how important balanced tackle is playing that first fish, i thought you were going to loose it in those snags but you managed it,
well done.
regards Peter
Thanks Pete, yes balanced tackle can make a huge difference, but you do still need a bit of luck which I was rather lucky with this fish if honest.
Awesome season mark. Well done and thank you👍🏻
Thanks Richard 🙏👍
Great session mark
Cheers Michael 🙏
Nice session again mark few nice fish mate keep them coming mark🎣👊💪
Thabks Karl, it was nice to get amongst a few. Will keep the vids coming mate ❤ cheers.

I hear you regarding that, I've had close quarter otter meetings last two trips in the evenings, one time surfaced right under my rod tip 🙄.
Great film with some nice chub mate. Good to see the respirator bag used for a bit of roving 👍
Thanks and I use the resp pack for all my trips, they're lovely aren't they and hard wearing. I was very kindly about them by a fishing chap Mark Smith and they have been wonderful. I've got two on my bike as panniers and they've out lasted normal bike panniers.
Nice little session that marks 👍
Thanks and you're welcome 🙏
You're videos got me back into fishing again along the Kennet had a pb from cottage lane so thanks for your videos
That's brilliant to hear and even better to know that you had a pb, it's always good to hear positive stuff and that's what fishing should be about.
Cracking video. Proper hit and hold stuff 😊
Cheers mate and yes sometimes the hit and hold doesn't work they still end up under your feet in the undercut!
my wife and i was perch fishing yesterday . 31 perch in 4 hours wife got one 2.1 kilos strangely non off us got any small ones under 1 pound . it was worth getting out in the cold weather and fish our favorit litle stream :)
That's a lovely result Allan. There's an old saying that goes "there's never a bad time to be fishing" 😂.
That was good fishing...
Thabks Hayden, it felt good to get a bend in the rod although they did get away with some cheeky chubby nibbles in some swims.
Great video again as always. The timing couldn't be better as I too am planning a chub session tomorrow on a river not to far from me using exactly the same tactics and bait.
