Interesting hook set. I use a large single in the same location. Dont mind loosing a fish rather than deep hook one...imagine getting a 30lbr...
I've used circle hooks and single trebles for years, and they work better with smaller baits in my experience. Unless the pike has wolfed it down, there's a high chance striking will pull the hook out the bait fish and pike.
