    I think you guys misunderstood. She knew exactly what was going to happen. But she didn't know how much she would care. She didn't know the toll losing all of her friends and having people hate her would be. She just assumed she could take it. People who say "I really don't care at all what people think of me" most of the time secretly do, even if it's just a little bit. She knew she was going to be hated, she just assumed she wouldn't care and... was wrong.

    • @vadalia3860
      @vadalia3860 3 года назад +204

      Yeah, she probably knew some people like the Bible-thumping circle would hate her but it spread a lot farther than she could have anticipated and revealed some issues she couldn't have really known were there, like the faculty-student affair and her best friend's backstabbing. Just those two issues alone, especially her friend joining the slut-shaming crowd and how the guidance counselor acted when Olive wanted her to tell the truth, would be enough to throw someone off even if she truly didn't care at all what the strangers in the situation thought about her.

    Todd is definitely one of the better teen love interests, just a down to earth chill ass dude, I also think the fact that he's not insecure about kinda making a fool of himself as the mascot or at red lobster kinda indirectly shows how secure he is with his own self image and how he really doesn't care much what other people think, and his relationship with Olive is really cute and never feels predatory or creepy. The parents are also really great and a refreshing example of parenting that you don't always see in media.

    • @Author.Noelle.Alexandria
      @Author.Noelle.Alexandria 3 года назад +47

      Nice to hear her parents spoken so positively of since that’s how my husband and I are with our daughter, and sometimes I worry about how we’ll be judged by other parents, but we’re also the one whose daughter actually talks to us about everything that most teens are too embarrassed to bring up to their parents. Our thinking is if we say it first and make no big deal out of it, our daughter will know that nothing she can say will shock us. She also knows she will NEVER be judged for anything she does UNLESS she chooses to do something she KNOWS will hurt someone. Something in ignorance is a chance to teach, and if she makes a mistake, that’s a chance to teach. Getting mad doesn’t help. Talking does.
      Sadly, the way a lot of people think you maintain innocence is by maintaining ignorance. Ignorance is about not knowing. Innocence is about not experiencing. The higher the ignorance, the easier it is to lose innocence without knowing it. Decrease ignorance, and a kid can see what someone is trying to do before it happens, giving them a chance to get away and preserve innocence.

She terrifies me and I know that the more she knows about me, the more weapons she has to inflict pain.

    In high school, I had a friend who went on a date with a guy and the next day he spread rumors that he got her to have sex with him. She was bullied by friends and people who had never really paid her attention before. The guy was exalted as being the one who "broke her down" because she had told other guys who showed interest in her that she didn't want to have sex until she was older/ ready, etc. I didn't know this was going on at the time (I was a year ahead of her and at a different high school because I'd changed schools the year before), but she ended up leaving that school because the sexual harassment from other students got so bad. I, myself, had a quiet but intense verbal altercation with a teacher in his classroom between classes one year; other students were in the classroom, too, milling about, but I didn't think my conversation with the teacher warranted any interest from anyone else because I was simply trying to get the teacher to sign the document that let me drop his class and switch to another one (I was taking his class as an extra curricular, but he was a really poor teacher and my GPA was suffering, so I wanted to switch to something else to maintain my GPA). Rumors circulated by the end of the day that I had apparently threatened the teacher to watch his back because I would get him after school if he didn't let me switch out of his class, when really, he spent the entire conversation telling me what a loser I was and how I would never amount to anything--would end up working at some gas station or flipping burgers (because, you know, people who work honest jobs are losers). The things he said were so hurtful and humiliating, but they also were the last straw for me when it came to asshole adults/ wannabe-mentors telling me I was shit, so I slammed my hand down on the top of his desk and leaned in and told him to sign my paper because the school councilor gave me permission to drop his class and I didn't have to spend another second listening to him. He shut up and signed the paper. Luckily, nothing came of the rumors, but they circulated for the rest of the year, and I guess anytime I did anything remotely attention grabbing, rumors were piled on that I was one of those crazy quiet people you don't wanna mess with. I didn't even know about it until my brother, two years my junior, told me that a bunch of people were talking about this crazy quiet senior who would just go ballistic every once in a while and stand up to anyone--students and teachers alike--and then when they finally told him my name he realized they were talking about me--and he told them I was his big sister and everyone stopped talking to him about me, ha ha ha.

    It's kinda funny how you mentioned never reading Huck Finn and then a minute later said that hell is where a the fun people are, because Huck got in trouble for expressing that same sentiment - that he'd rather go to the bad place where his friend Tom Sawyer would be than have salvation. It's a great book, very funny if you ever want to read it. I mean, it's funny but it also shows how deplorable slavery in America was at the time, too.

    You may say you don't want a musical number for no reason. But let's be honest, when the time arrives for you, you'll dance or at least bob your head, and knowing you're on camera will bring out the performer in you. You can't help it, you're the superstar guy. Having the crowds chanting your name, that's your main source of energy. I've watched your comedy special and I've seen segments of your other performances.

    This movie is honestly gold. Another great movie that you should see with Stanley Tucci in it is The Lovely Bones if you haven't seen it already. It's amazing but also very bittersweet.

    Stanley Tucci is straight as far as everyone knows. He married Emily Blunt's older sister, Felicity, in 2012. His first wife passed away in 2009 from cancer.
