@donoghue72 I have to agree. British Sea Power are pushing the boundaries in the same way that the beatles did in the 60's. A totally original band with lots of depth.

How can ANYBODY compare this band to the likes of either Coldplay / Clayplod or Arcade Fire just beats me..... they have absolutely NAFF ALL in common with BSP.

Is it me or are BSP obsessed with the soccer am wrestlers when writing this song!
It's vague like a lot of lyrics unfortuantely (in my view). However, it seems that they seek "sodom" which is pure pleasure seeking place to megiddo (the battle of good and evil). So they seem to want to forget the worlds issues and seek pleasure. I could be wrong on that. But no Lucifer means free reign of action and pleasure. No need to worry about consequences.

This song always gets comparisons to U2 but it sounds much more like the shoegaze band the Lilys than it does U2 or Arcade Fire. A great epic classic no matter what.

I wish whoever posted this would disable comments so that the sublime experience of watching/listening to this song wouldn´t be soured by reading comments from such social detritus as "cheeryvibez" and "rhaastaa" (don´t their chosen log-in names just tell you everything you need to know?). I´d love to know who they think writes "good" lyrics. Actually, no, scratch that, I really WOULDN´T like to know.
Baal (or Baʿal) was, at one point, simply another word for "lord" or "master." Think of it as a title rather than a specific entity.

Overall sentiment is existentialist, with a return to nature worship. Will humanity return to nature, or pursue industrialization ("silk/cherry wood" and "cyanide {Hitler died of it}/Kevlar" [natural vs. manmade]).
Lucifer = bringer of light, and can be equated with enlightenment or knowledge. "Several lucifers come..." might mean leaders with opposing ideas of "real knowledge."
Rather than engage in the fray, distance yourself from the conflict...take a bicycle ride and enjoy the moment.
I think Hamilton looks a bit like Buster Keaton.
Think you might have Lucifer confused with Prometheus...
