Just throwing this out as a suggestion G&G green buckings are also good I've never had an issue fitting one into any barrel or hop up and they perform great
The G&G Green buckings are definitely good as well. 8) At the time this was filmed (2014) we had not really carried them and they weren't as popular back then. Thanks for your input!
I personally like the Maple leaf nubs, I use them in most of my AEGs. I use them either alone on a stock bucking that i cut the fin and bump off of or in conjunction with a maple leaf bucking which has the flat bump to match the nub. Air seal on the Maple leaf bucking is also good with the ribs.
thanks as always for posting, I see how to make the flat hop now, however my guns are all rhop complete and I love it. next build I will test it out. still excited to see you all here in Mississippi in January. keep in touch!
Even the red Prometheus Air Seal Hop-Up Hard Type very very bad, i had problem today the gun it doesn't shot (the gearbox sound) looks like using died battery the won't go out the barely can't reach 5 meter..
I installed a modified a maple leaf bucking into a flat hop bucking and installed a namazu flat hop nub. Worked great my WE M4 GBBR, but on my WE SCAR-L GBBR, I didn't have enough hop, had to add an F-key as a spacer between the nub and bucking. I know it's a derpy solution, but it worked.
I like the video, but completely disagree with the first statement. If you actually know how to correctly tune an rhop, they vastly outperform a normal flathop. On that note, as a tech myself, I almost always refer customers to flathop instead of rhop because it takes much less time, is easier to tune/install and still does perform nicely.

Umbrella armory sells the Prometheus barrel rhop for 105.00. For the complete setup with the Prometheus barrel, prowin hop up, nub and everything you need to just drop it in starting at 155.00 to 165.00. It all depends on the size of barrel you need. Turn around time is 2-4 weeks though.
Why did you leave some extra material on that one side. Wouldn't you want each side to be even. If this is a dumb question I'm sorry I have only been playing for a month.
Nick Shumar It doesn't adversely affect the BB if the flats on the side aren't centred on the hump of the nub. It's the flat part on the bottom that interacts with the BB. The nub needs to be trimmed to fit inside fit the barrel window. The hump on the nub gets attached attached to a pivoting arm which passes through a window in a fixed location. You cut the nub where it needs to be cut in order to fit through the window.

hi amped, i took your advise and use the purple soft bucking Prometheus with the prowin house and the fire fly nub, i have serious feed jam where the bb pull the lip up and in itself and jams the bb stuck! both my dmr and cqb does this!
So hold on, for the regular tightbore you install the bucking with the original outside inwards? i.e. the marks from cutting off the ridge and nub would be outside and visible, yes?
The ridge will need shaved off so that the bucking can be rotated around so that the shaved part of the nub is not coming in contact with the BB. You will want the smooth part of the bucking to contact the bb vs the rough shaved edge for consistency purposes.
This is a GREAT tutorial! I'm fairly new to Airsoft (My kids got me into it). I've been playing around and learning the in's and outs of gearboxes.... I have an Umarex G36C.... I see you have the prowin in M4 and AK.... The AK should also be a V.3 gearbox... is it interchangeable by any chance?
Thanks for your feedback and welcome to the sport! You can definitely install a flat hop into the G36. It utilizes a standard nub to our knowledge. When it comes to hop units for the G36, there aren't a ton out there. Prowin does make one, but I'm not 100% sure if it's compatible with the Umarex G36. For all intents and purposes it should be though. The gearbox internals are interchangeable with V3 type parts for the most part. Hope this helps!
what is the point of shaving off the alignment ridge? i assume you turn the bucking back to its correct side after shaving off the bucking nub. do shaving off the ridge do anything?
1987RaPsCaLLioN No, once you shave it, you turn it right side out and rotate it slightly so that shaved patch part isnt in the hop window. You want the smooth part of the bucking in the window vs the rough sanded part you just finished.
i have a polarstar jack and does my barrel length have to do with anything- im using all flat hop parts ^ in the video i started using a standard nub instead of the firefly because it didn't work like a flathop- but it works now like a regular hop
When it comes to barrel length, the longer it is, the more FPS it will have. So essentially the longer the barrel, the more efficient it can be since you can run at a lower PSI and achieve the same FPS per given PSI. Hmmm the fire fly didn't work like a flat hop? Not sure I follow. Did you remove the nub inside your bucking, rotate it, so that the flat part of the bucking was touching the BB when the Firefly was depressed? Please let us know if you have any questions. Thanks! Kurtis
***** I had a problem fitting the grey (soft) Modify bucking in several of my hopups because it's so soft it wouldn't squeeze fully into the hopunit so I would have to cut out the excess even after using some silicone spray and some white grease.
Hi ! again my bucking got problem with the bb can go through it without stoping unless you push down the nut to hold it , if not the bb will come out from the barrel just like that , so I wonder why ?
leonard hawken Good question - the answer is typically nothing is stopping it. On my barrels I typically just put a dab of super-glue in the channel, and then use the floss tying mod to secure the bucking if it doesn't fit tight in the hop up chamber.
The red one... ;) At the time of this filming in 2014 there was only 1 namazu. It is this one here: ampedairsoft.com/firefly-namazu-flat-hop-nub-with-roller-bar-red-hard/
You need to turn it inside out so that you can remove the nub and groove on the inside. Once finished, you turn it back right side out and then rotate it when you install it so that the smooth inside will come in contact with the BB instead of the rougher part.
So i noticed you didn't turn the bucking right side out when you shaved it. Do you need to turn it back to right side out after your done taking the nub and grove out?
Thanks a lot, you guys seem to know your stuff. I have a snow wolf barrett, and I want to flat hop it. It has an m150 spring and a madbull 6.01, so it's shooting very hot. I haven't chronoed it yet, but the previous owner said it was about 570 fps. I want to buy a PDI 6.05, and a prowin chamber, or a laylax neo strike chamber. Does the hardness of the bucking matter if you're flat hopping it? Should I flat hop a harder bucking for an AEG that's shooting this hot? What bucking would you recommend? Thanks, great video.
As far as the nub direction does the longer side go toward the end of the barrel side or does it go facing the stock of the gun? Or does it even matter?
Yup correct. Return it to it's original orientation and then rotate it slightly so that the parts you just cut off are not in the window. This way the rough spots you just cut out don't engage the BB. Only the smooth parts of the bucking will touch the BB.
im sorry im a noob but im trying to understand the tech and mods of airsoft before actually getting into it (interested in the machinery of airsoft guns) but what exactly is an r hop and flat hop and what exactly does it do?
well, assuming you know what hop ups do, a lot of people do these kind of DIY mods to make you hop up give you even more range and consistency in BB flight pattern, (look up the magnus effect, that's what's happening to a BB basically within a hop up unit) and flat hops and R hops just allow for "more" hop, so more backspin, allowing for heavier BB's with longer range. basically
ok yeah i understood that but i still dont know whats the diff between them in terms of bucking alteration and such. i thought a flat hop was basically a flat nub instead of the standard dome nub until i looked into it and i see people sandpapering their bucking to remove the inner mound and ridge (why is that)?
Matthew Mai some barrels don't have that incline where the line falls in place, thus making the hop up rubber sit at an odd angle, tending to give much more hop up then needed. as for the little nub inside the rubber, they remove that because it's too weak on it's own (and too inconsistent), but too strong with the cut down when the moddified nub pushes down on it. hope this helps!
Yes. you can. The wide bore barrel is great, and the only barrel that supports flat hop right off the shelf. Also, a flat hop nub will give you a lot better performance, so I would go for that one, too, if I was you.
Gotcha Punk Well, a wide bore barrel trades muzzle velocity for accuracy, because the BB doesn't touch the barrel as with tight bore barrels. I guess it will work with tight bores, but tight bores being more accurate because they are tighter is as much a misconception as eating fat making you fat.
Are you guys still going with the flathop these days and still think it's the way to go? What do you think about the barrels that come with one already installed?
Awesome Video!! I had a question what kind of hop-up rubber would work well with .03g BBs in cold weather conditions. Had a modify hop-up rubber installed and the rubber is now completely torn up...
Pat Fenis Why only the ridge and not also the nub ? The Bucking which is shown in this Video is a Prometheus and not a Firefly, the Nub is from Firefly but not the Bucking. At 09:50 it says I have to trim of the Ridge AND the little Nub (which is normally pressed into the Barrel-window). So what do i have to do if i want to create a flat-hop setup with a Prometheus purple Bucking, a Prometheus 6.03 EG Barrel, a Firfley Namazu Nub and a ProWin ? I thought i have to trim of the Ridge AND Nub of the Prometheus purple Bucking and put it (90 degrees turned) back on the barrel ?
Fränkische Wölfe My mistake, I used the wrong terminology. I typed bucking instead of nub. You are exactly correct. To use the Namazu nub with a standard type bucking (prometheus purple included) you have to remove all of the inner protrusions from the bucking (the alignment ridge, and the bump intended for the barrel window). And Put the bucking on the barrel (turned 90 degrees from regular) so that a smooth factory finish is making contact with the bb and not the rough patch where material was removed.
question.. so if the point of this mod is to impart more hop on the bb.. wouldn't simply increasing hop on the wheel do the same thing? aside from fps difference, i don't see how it would make a difference.
right i understand shorter barrel less range lower fps etc etc- but im just trying to achieve better accuracy im confused as to why the video said to cut the firefly and shave down the bucking
Gotcha. The reason it said that is that is how you do a flat hop. If you use the normal bump on the bucking, it is not a flat hop. The firefly needs to be cut to match your hop window on your hop up chamber/barrel. The bucking needs shaved down so that you can rotate the bucking so that the flat part of the bucking is the part that interacts with the BB.
I can also attest that Modify is a good company to go with, I use their barrels and buckings and I am very happy with their performance over the past two years.
If i do an s-hop on my barrel what nub do i use. I also have the bucking with no bump inside only the long ridge and i have a flat nub that came with it.
+1987RaPsCaLLioN As the manufacturer, you'd have to charge more money for the gun because of the parts cost and labor costs. That would also necessitate a large crew of techs be in the factory to install these in every gun, which would increase manufacture time, driving supply down and prices up drastically.Simply put, the standard hop-up system is good, but flat-hop is better.
+Russ Harvey is manufacturing a flat hop into the process THAT MUCH more though? You don't need a tech, you just instal the flat hop in place of the normal hop, you use flat buckings instead of specifically manufactured ones, you pop a bit of pink eraser (or equivalent standard piece) while the arm is being assembled into the housing.. Yes there is slightly more time through the process and slightly more cost due to the addition of the 'nub' but I can't see it being vastly dissimilar.
It really wouldn't be a huge deal to manufacture it but the issue is, as you said, "more time through the process"; it would reduce supplies of the guns in question as well as increasing the cost of manufacture. This is all before whatever mark-up the manufacturer decides to apply and then the retailer has to make their own profit from the sale of the gun. You could potentially up with Echo1 guns approaching Krytac CRB prices and Krytacs going to $500+.
So I have two questions on the flat hop nub do you have to cut one side completely and leave one with a little bit material and for the bucking do you completely trim off the guide in that little nub that's on there
This has probably already been answered.. but is the modify flat hop bucking good? Or baaaaad ... I don't want to take the short cut route just trying to stay in a budget and having a hard time finding the promy purple..
Can I flat hop a armalite m4 aeg? Shoots darn well for what it is, already upgraded motor and swapped to lipo. Shot consistency isn’t always the best. Let me know!
You can flat hop any AEG that utilizes a standard hop unit. From the sounds of it, your rifle is probably your standard M4 AEG and is able to be flat hopped. Hope this helps!
After it is flat hopped is the Nub supposed to be uneven on both sides? if so, does anyone have some close up pictures so I can get a better look so I can flat-hop it correctly
Another question. I ordered my new tight bore barrel and went with the specs off the web. It says that it takes a 486mm length barrel so thats what i ordered. I took it apart today to make sure and the stock one measured about 530mm. Can i still use the shorter inner barrel or is the bbs going to hit the exit hole by the orange cap. Thanks
There is a chance that it might hit the exit hole on the orange tip. If that happens you can drill the hole wider to allow for more clearance. The length of the barrel will not hurt the performance of the gun.
Amped Airsoft Thank you for the info. I was about to order a longer inner barrel but i wont now. I think i have to roll some blue tape on it to center it in the outer barrel then drill out the tip. Thanks again
Yes it is from our experience. The bucking is already flat hopped. We also off a Prometheus Bucking that is pre-flat hopped as well. Both are good options.
This is for any barrel that doesn't have an additional nub slot that allows you to simply rotate the bucking and hide the original nub. Currently the only barrels to our knowledge that have this are ORGA Barrels, which come in 6.00, 6.05, 6.13, and 6.23mm. If you simply rotate a bucking on a normal barrel without modifying it, the nub and the groove on the bucking will cause it to protrude and may not allow it to slide into the hop unit. And for reference, you only turn it inside out so that you can sand off the nub and groove, then you turn it correct side out so that you can slip it over the barrel. Also note, that you want to rotate it so that the part that you just sanded isn't going to come in contact with the BB. Hope this helps! Thanks, Kurtis
They didn't specify the orientation of the nub. They cut it with one side a bit longer so it makes a difference which orientation you install it in. Can someone clarify please!
I got a question, why is it required t shave off the bottom to the rubber bucking? sorry if I seem to be a newb with this stuff but I recently just got into teching
I just bought this set up from you guys for my LCT AK74U with a polarstar jack I’m running a combat union HopUp and I had high expectations and this shoots like garbage. At maybe 75 feet I’d have better accuracy throwing my gun at someone. I’m not sure if I did something wrong but with the the same hop up and an action army barrel with a G&g bucking it was acceptable for range and accuracy. This setup was a complete let down.
Kai A There will be too much hop or it won't work properly, the point of flat/R hop is to switch from a pointy nub inside the barrel to a flatter and longer surface making the hop more even,

***** I had a problem fitting the grey (soft) Modify bucking in several of my hopups because it's so soft it wouldn't squeeze fully into the hopunit so I would have to cut out the excess even after using some silicone spray and some white grease.
Are you using a MadBull 3-1 chamber? If so stop. I had the same issue.
No XCR, LCT AK's and G&G GK5C.
Must be the bucking then
Hi ! again my bucking got problem with the bb can go through it without stoping unless you push down the nut to hold it , if not the bb will come out from the barrel just like that , so I wonder why ?
Quick one, but once you remove the insides of the bucking what's stopping the air from leaving out the thin channel on the barrel?
Tia
leonard hawken Good question - the answer is typically nothing is stopping it. On my barrels I typically just put a dab of super-glue in the channel, and then use the floss tying mod to secure the bucking if it doesn't fit tight in the hop up chamber.
Why do you have to cut the nub? Isn't the nub window size standardized for all hop up units?
Ricardo Bonfim it's because of the flat hop nub being longer, Anthony says it video. :)
There are at least 3 different Namazu firefly nubs... Which one you talking about???
The red one... ;) At the time of this filming in 2014 there was only 1 namazu. It is this one here: ampedairsoft.com/firefly-namazu-flat-hop-nub-with-roller-bar-red-hard/
Amped Airsoft Thanks! In NL there is red: normal, normal/hard and hard. Thanks for the link! Maybe add in description :) thanks
Gotcha! That makes sense. 8) Thank you!
Why do you have to turn the bucking inside out for a tight bore exactly?
You need to turn it inside out so that you can remove the nub and groove on the inside. Once finished, you turn it back right side out and then rotate it when you install it so that the smooth inside will come in contact with the BB instead of the rougher part.
What does flat hopping do to make the gun better
So i noticed you didn't turn the bucking right side out when you shaved it. Do you need to turn it back to right side out after your done taking the nub and grove out?
they dint modify it.... they where saying if you use different inner barrel ul have to shave off.... but if u use orga u dnt have to....
Mandirigma14689 thats not what i was asking but i ok....
Pretty sure you turn it right side out again
After you trip the ridge and bump off do you need to right side out the bucking?
Matthew Mai
some barrels don't have that incline where the line falls in place, thus making the hop up rubber sit at an odd angle, tending to give much more hop up then needed.
as for the little nub inside the rubber, they remove that because it's too weak on it's own (and too inconsistent), but too strong with the cut down when the moddified nub pushes down on it.
hope this helps!
This is unrealated but would the polarstar jack in a arp 556 be a good combo
As far as being able to be installed, yes. However, the rest is personal preference on whether it's a good combo for you. Hope this helps. -Kurtis
Can you just use the prowin hop up and the purple bucking?
Yes. you can. The wide bore barrel is great, and the only barrel that supports flat hop right off the shelf. Also, a flat hop nub will give you a lot better performance, so I would go for that one, too, if I was you.
What is the advantages of a wide bore barrel ? Would it work with a 6.00 or 6.05 Orga barrel ?
G&G green or Prometheus purple if you have the moneeyyzz
cool, but the same rule applies, cut off the bump and ridge that is on the hob up rubber, right?
Shockwave1985 only remove the ridge if you are using a flat-hop nub such as the Firefly one pictured in this video.
+MysteryFlavour The flat hop contacts the BB for longer than normal, rather than harder.
Is the roller bar necessary? My nub did not come with one
right i understand shorter barrel less range lower fps etc etc- but im just trying to achieve better accuracy im confused as to why the video said to cut the firefly and shave down the bucking
How do you know what kind of hop up your gun uses
How about the Modify flat bucking ? the hard one...
How about on a PTS Masada? Has a hop-up chamber different from a version 2/3.
Hmm, I don't think you can so I might be SOL.
To which side does the little lip you left on the nub face, toward the arm or away?
Can you leave nubs uncut? Or does it depend on barrel window size, just for clarification.
My friend reccomended me to buy a "Modify Flat Hopup bucking"
Is it any good
It is also a good bucking. 8) They are very popular. A matter of fact, we have several on the way for a restock! Should be here mid next week. -Kurtis
I can also attest that Modify is a good company to go with, I use their barrels and buckings and I am very happy with their performance over the past two years.
ok so on that last part you leave the bucking inside out when you install it in you hopup ?
Yeah I'm confused by this part too?
no, you flip it back and rotate it 90 degrees so any imperfections from the trim aren't in the hop up window
Can i use madbull bucking?.. Orbanybsuggestions? Promy are very rare in our area.. (using an aeg) Tia..
Sure can! You can technically use any bucking for a flat hop setup as long as you modify it accordingly. Hope this helps!
Amped Airsoft thankz!!! :D
It doesnt fit in my ares amoeba am 014, do you know a hop up house that will?
If i do an s-hop on my barrel what nub do i use. I also have the bucking with no bump inside only the long ridge and i have a flat nub that came with it.
Or do i even attempt to do the s hop with the sugru?
Why don't guns come with flat hops as standard if they are so good?
+1987RaPsCaLLioN MONEY
So I have two questions on the flat hop nub do you have to cut one side completely and leave one with a little bit material and for the bucking do you completely trim off the guide in that little nub that's on there
I saw a video of someone filling in the space in the barrel with modulable glue, but yall just put the bucking back on, any thoughts?
Here is the video for reference: ruclips.net/video/Xj6MvuGVUO0/видео.html
This has probably already been answered.. but is the modify flat hop bucking good? Or baaaaad ... I don't want to take the short cut route just trying to stay in a budget and having a hard time finding the promy purple..
I just picked up a modify nub and bucking, heard they are really good so yea far as I know they aren't bad
+Stealth5Airsoft right on thank you
Can I flat hop a armalite m4 aeg? Shoots darn well for what it is, already upgraded motor and swapped to lipo. Shot consistency isn’t always the best. Let me know!
You can flat hop any AEG that utilizes a standard hop unit. From the sounds of it, your rifle is probably your standard M4 AEG and is able to be flat hopped. Hope this helps!
Amped Airsoft thanks! Will try it out!
@@aaronp8902 Sounds like a plan! Best of luck!
After it is flat hopped is the Nub supposed to be uneven on both sides? if so, does anyone have some close up pictures so I can get a better look so I can flat-hop it correctly
parts list??
Dova now, just get the "modify flat hop bucking" which includes nub. About 10 bucks.
can you not mod the bucking with a tightbore angel custom barrel?
I just got prommy flat hop.but it doesnt include roller bar.what am i gonna do?
Can you use an r hopped barrel with a flat nub?
Another question. I ordered my new tight bore barrel and went with the specs off the web. It says that it takes a 486mm length barrel so thats what i ordered. I took it apart today to make sure and the stock one measured about 530mm. Can i still use the shorter inner barrel or is the bbs going to hit the exit hole by the orange cap. Thanks
Sorry forgot to mention that this a Snow Wolf M24
There is a chance that it might hit the exit hole on the orange tip. If that happens you can drill the hole wider to allow for more clearance. The length of the barrel will not hurt the performance of the gun.
Amped Airsoft Thank you for the info. I was about to order a longer inner barrel but i wont now. I think i have to roll some blue tape on it to center it in the outer barrel then drill out the tip. Thanks again
Is the modify flat hop bucking good? And isn’t it already flat hopped or am I wrong?
Yes it is from our experience. The bucking is already flat hopped. We also off a Prometheus Bucking that is pre-flat hopped as well. Both are good options.
Why do you have to turn the bucking insideout on a thight boar?
Thanks,
Kurtis
How do you know how to position the inner barrel in the Chamber?
They didn't specify the orientation of the nub. They cut it with one side a bit longer so it makes a difference which orientation you install it in. Can someone clarify please!
I got a question, why is it required t shave off the bottom to the rubber bucking? sorry if I seem to be a newb with this stuff but I recently just got into teching
Hmmmm I my bucking don have the range inside so I don have to trim it off . MB is the new version or something ??
If I use this setup with the Prometheus bucking will I have feeding issues for my f1 due to the lips?
Hey amped. Could you please tell me if a flat hop will work with a miracle barrel?
how do you flat hop a jg g608 im with you up til the large nub
please help
Does is matter what hop up you get? I want to turn my AEG to HPA what hop up should I use.(Its a lancer tactical gun)
any tips on how to do this with a G&P M14? they have weird hop-ups, and i can't dig up anything on them.
i live in cold conditions so will the g&g green bucking work for this
Sure will!
Why do you need to cut the nub wings off?
Do I have to shave off the nub on a Prometheus barrel?
Yes
What happens if you don't?
Kai A There will be too much hop or it won't work properly, the point of flat/R hop is to switch from a pointy nub inside the barrel to a flatter and longer surface making the hop more even,
