The doctor explains that the reason why they're having the dreams is because they all ate a Krabby Patty before they fell asleep, saying that the particular chemical composition of the patties affected their biorythms and caused a reaction that resulted in the dreams. This is what caused it. SpongeBob then asks why he knows so much about krabby patties, and the patty responds, "Is it not obvious?!?!" and strips his outfit of to reveal that he is that Krabby Patty. He then runs away and turns into a trophy. SpongeBob, Patrick, and Plankton chase after him and head into the final level, here they all race in a strange dream to get out of their dream and catch the patty, in which they argue about who's dream it is.
SpongeBob wins, he celebrates his victory and and overlooks his dream bubble to find out that it was a dream. He pops out and brings the Krabby Patty to the Krusty Krab, chopping the patty into average-sized patties for the customers. One customer complains about relish in his patty and SpongeBob decides to remake it but then notices that he along with the customers have Gary's shell on their backs. SpongeBob then says "Meow" suggesting that he is turning into a snail.

Am I the only one who found the ending completely dark and disturbing even for a SpongeBob title?

Okay, I think I might have got this. Before gary goes out he sees spongebob "drive" to work (which is a reference to Desil Dreaming). Then gary goes out and sees patrick on some rodeo thing with a towel in the background looking like a cape (a reference to Starfish-Man and Rocket Rodeo). Gary then comes across plankton stomping around on a table and boxes looking for a krabby patty crumb (a reference to Revenge of the Giant Plankton Monster). Gary then comes home to which spongebob has a krabby patty and starts playing with it; moving it up and down like it was talking (a reference to Super-Sized Patty Chase). Then after that spongebob gets eaten by an alaskan bull worm (a reference to Alaskan Belly Trouble) and the patty is now in front of gary. Gary then eats the patty, falls asleep, and dreams about the events he just witnessed today.
So the spongebob, patrick, and plankton that you see in the game aren't real, they're part of Gary's dream. Even after the Hypnotic Highway races for each character, it's not the characters escaping the dream, it's a happy conclusion for each of the characters: Spongebob goes into work with the giant patty, Patrick celebrates by eating his patty, and Plankton takes over Bikini Bottom with his giant patty. But eventually their dreams go bad: Spongebob sees a snail shell on his back, the patty Patrick was going to eat runs away, and the Giant patty that helped plankton betrays him and rains patties from the sky. But the final shot that you see were Spongebob, Patrick and Plankton wake up and are now in another dream bubble, is something like Inception, where it's dreams within dreams. But all of these dreams are connected to Gary's dream. So Gary has always been the controller the whole time.
There are actually some clues throughout the game to hint that all of this is a dream. Notice how at the beginning of every level it opens up with someone sleeping (with the exceptions of It Came from Bikini Bottom, and Hypnotic Highway). And also notice in Desil Dreaming that all of the people you race are people you meet later in the game: like Patrick, Plankton, and lastly Gary.
But then, what's Hypnotic Highway? Hypnotic Highway is probably the combination of all of the dreams. You can tell by the racing aspect of Spongebob, including the announcer guys from Desil Dreaming, the Rocket Portions with Patrick, there's a giant monster walking around on the track for the Giant Plankton segments, a giant worm tunnel that you can go through for the Alaskan Bull Worm level, the Giant krabby patty as a trophy for the super sized patty case level, and also notice that a majority of the obstacles and signs that you see are snails.
And also notice that the central antagonist in the dream world is the krabby patty. The same krabby patty that Gary ate causing all of these dreams to become what they are.
But what about Spongebob in the real world, he got eaten by an Alaskan Bull Worm? He'll probably be fine, he has survived worse.
It's weird that out of all of the Spongebob games, this one in particular is the one that has an enormous quantity of detail thrown into it, including some Inception themes and ideas. Personally, I kind of like this idea, analyzing a game that contains bright colors and is recommended for children.

Dude the ending was creepy when spongebob laughed then the alaskin bull came to eat him then gary just stared for second then went to sleep. For a game that is supposed to be cheery I would say that would be out of place for a video game

i seriously as a kid on my game cube i couldn't beat this level.
Well, im a kid (im 11 years old) and i FINALLY beat the game many weeks ago.
The levels were easy but the hypnotic highway is so hard, well it's not so hard but it's still hard it tooks 3 or more tries to beat hypnotic highway.

If you looked at the game's bonus cutscene, it makes sense since spongebob was eaten before the events of Alaskan Belly Trouble. I mean, he's been through worse...
Edit: Oh btw the ending where Gary wakes up was an inception, meaning the events were Gary's dreams the whole entire time.

This was all Gary's dream; so probably the bonus cutscene takes place before Gary ate the patty and went to sleep, setting off the events of the game.

They didn't actually eat the Krabby patty. Its was Gary who ate it and dreamt the whole game.
When I first played this game, I was in Haiti and I played this game during the summer of 2007. I played it in PS2 but I never had the memory card. so if I reach a new level and I decided to stop playing for the day, I had to play all the previous level all over again before I reach that level. When WE (my brother and I ) finally reach part 9 guess what? The game froze! Because we were playing this game throughout the whole day, the PS2 became hot so it froze! I was so mad!

I don't know why this is the case: When I got to the cutscene after the credits, there was no sound or music. The character's mouths didn't move... O_o.
You probably have the gamecube version. The gamecube ending doesn't have sound for some reason. Probably due to space limitations or something.

I spent so much time on this game and when I got to the end, the game froze up in the middle of the final race. I tried again and every time it still froze up. I got so pissed!

The GameCube version's final cutscene has no audio...for some reason. Might have to get the PS2 version anyway.

It's implied that those events happen before Gary goes to bed, he sees all those things happen, then eats a krabby patty before going to bed, then dreams about everything that happened in the game.

so it was all a dream made from Gary? WHAT THE FUCK NICK?
Im 11 and i finally beat the game weeks ago, when i was so young (maybe 6 years old) i can't beat the game because i didn't know where do i go in alaskan belly trouble, and when i was 9 i can't beat the giant plankton level, and now here i am i beat the game, the levels isn't so hard, and the hypnotic highway is so hard, but it took 3 or more tries to beat it for me.
and to this day, im 14 now, it's still one of my favorite games of all time

When I beat the game with plankton when the 3 woke up there eyes were already open before they snapped out of their dreams
if you play the level with Patrick or plankton it becomes way to easy
Patrick is a bit tough but plankton doesn't have much to worry about
+CrazyCartoonAdventure but with cheats it's so easy it's just plain stupid
why would u use cheats
CrazyCartoonAdventure for the costumes or for the green fire in diesel dreaming or the scientist plankton outfit or skeleton patrick in hypnotic highway or stuff like that there's no point to using the time cheats anyway though you could literaly beat the level in six minutes if your a pro and know the shortcuts it's much more fun to run from the giant patty as scientist plankton or fly through space on a pink rocket with better lasers and infinite fuel like a regular rocket instead of losing fuel like a first ever model motorcycle from the 30's or something so yeah that's why you use cheat codes leeeeel
Well yea I know why you would use cheat codes for that purpose, but I'm mainly talking about having the no timer and unlimited fuel, making the game easier. It won't be fun if ur trying to make it easier , you won't feel a sense of accomplishment

Does anyone know where to find the last Sleepy Seeds for Patrick and Plankton in the previous levels?
The last 3 for plankton is when u play as patrick in the final level, and the last 3 are when u play as spongebob in the final level, and the 4th one is when you'll have to do some backtracking to find it.
@@tylerkelly4575 I saw that GX had collected 23/27 Patrick Sleepy Seeds, and there were 3 to collect while playing as SpongeBob on this level, so which level would you find the last Patrick Seed?
@christianloubardias6375 I think I found out where it can be hidden: if u miss the seed in the 1st starfishman level, use the cheat code tissue to activate a detector, in order to find it. Now I know where to find it.
@christianloubardias6375 I figured it out: if u happen to miss one at the starfishman Level, that means u didn't complete the bridge by blowing all 3 propellers using the bluster puff ability at the construction site where the ability was introduced in. There's 1 on top of a pile, right where the phone is, 1 where the gap is, and 1 at the bottom of the gap. Once the bridge is complete, there's a cage right next to it where you'll find the seed, jump in the cage to grab it, and keep going.

ok, someone explain the ending... cause i don't get it at all
Cutscene 1: Reveals that the entire game was Gary's dream (something that had been implied throughout the game) and everything happened because Gary ate a Krabby Patty before bed.
Cutscene 2 has two explanations
Explanation 1: this scene takes place after the game. When Gary sees both Patrick and Plankton acting like they did in his dream, he gets confused. When he sees Spongebob getting eaten alive by ABW, he decides that he's still dreaming, and goes off to sleep.
Explanation 2: this scene takes place before the game. Before Gary's naptime, Gary takes a walk around town. He sees both Patrick and Plankton acting odd, which plants the concepts of both Rocket Rodeo and Revenge of the Giant Plankton Monster. Eventually, Gary returns home for his nap. Spongebob saying "Maybe I shouldn't give this to you before bed. It could give you nightmares." plants the thought of nightmare patties (SuperSized Patty/Hypnotic Highway) into his mind. Finally, Spongebob getting eaten by ABW at the end plants the concept of Alaskan Belly Trouble in his mind. This scene taking place before the game also explains why Spongebob isn't in bed when it is revealed that it was Gary's dream all along
