  • In Hollywood back in the 60’s and 70’s there were not a lot of minorities or martial artists. Most stunt people were either rodeo people, acrobats or gymnasts with no martial arts skills on the screen. Bruce Lee paved the way. Many attribute Bruce as a guide, not only for martial arts, but inspirational regardless of the field they were in. He paved the way for people to bring people together. Steven Seagal has said he wouldn’t be where he is today without Bruce Lee. So grateful. Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van-Damme - a lot of people used Bruce as a guide to see what could be done and continue to pave the way.
Diana remembers some of the people in her life as a young girl including Kareem Abdul-Jabar who at that time was known as Lew Alcindor, a freshman at UCLA. Bruce was training “Lew” but had no idea who he was. Guru Dan knew who he was and explained to Bruce that he was a highly touted basketball player and asked if he could come watch him train. He remembers Kareem picking up Diana as a young girl and placing her on the roof of Bruce’s house and then gently setting her down. Because of Bruce Lee, Guru Dan had the opportunity to meet other well- known stars, such as Steve McQueen, James Coburn; people he wouldn’t have met if not for Bruce Lee.

I love these interviews. Although I never met Mr. Inosanto I've read his JKD and Filipino Martial Arts books since the 80's. He has literally been an influence on my philosophy of keeping an open mind. I've always loved that he comes across so humble and gentle yet has this quiet confidence at the same time. This is the essence of being a true man.

Diana, these personal, shorter and relaxed interviews are amazing. Please keep them going. I owe my martial arts training to your father as I trained a long while with several of his colleagues and students. Your father is a legend of legends

@@dianaleeinosanto8012 Dear Miss Inosanto, there´s some controversy if Steven Seagal really met Bruce Lee. Seagal said that he met Bruce Lee. But there´s an interview here on youtube where James Coburn talked about Seagal. The interview seems to be from the early 80s. Coburn said that he met Seagal about 3-4 years ago. Seagal on the other hand said that he met Bruce Lee through James Coburn. Can you be so kind and ask your father if Seagal really met Bruce Lee when Bruce was alive?
