This song was written by Dexter Holland (the singer) in response to his girlfriend dying in a car crash.
And leaving him behind to raise their baby girl alone.
I always felt the offspring was a underrated band but they have a ton of great songs. Rock on.

This song is real. the lyrics are real. the emotion is real. This is a great song to yell and scream and cry with him to get your pain out thank you offspring
I was at a festival two years ago and The Offspring headlines the show. Dexter played this one starting with just the piano and then the rest of the band joined for the last part of the song. It was a very different and more emotional version of the song. This is always one of my favorites from them.
It moves me too . I can relate to these lyrics , the emotion is real
One of my favorite cds great lyrics it made me cry reminded me of the felling you feel when you think of someone like that

This song's true brilliance is it's brevity, it conveys everything it needs to in basically 2 verses and 8 lines.
The reason I'd say it's a better approach than Pearl Jam's last dance is this song focuses on the emotional aftermath and let's the listener fill in the details with their own loss.
I can honestly say that even tho I liked the offspring for the sound they were known for already, I never would have guessed they could pull off a death ballad

The Offspring -Kristi aRe you doing okay. Gone Away is my favorite song from them because it fully reminds me of my mom. But if you get the chance check out Kristi are u doing okay, it's such a powerful REAL LIFE song.

I will always be frustrated as hell that the majority of ppl only think about "Pretty Fly" when they talk about The Offspring. They had SOOO much more to offer than one simple, gimicky pop song. Luckily, I'm a firm believer that time sweeps away all of the trash and leaves only the treasure, and that they will finally get the kudos they deserve...

You can tell Dexter is really hurting while singing it (it's about his gf getting killed in a car crash).

Five finger butt punch is complete garbage.
Freak Show I agree that the FFDP version, alongside with their video was really good. It changed the song from loosing a girlfriend or wife to loosing friends serving along side with in war.
No they didn’t....
Ffdp did an okay cover. It was the over the top music video that helped them.

From this album, my favorite, always overlooked, still Amazed. On Smash : Genocide and Smash. Ignition : Well, favorite album. Very hard to pick between : Kick Him When He's Down, Forever And A Day, Burn It Up, LAPD and No Hero. First album, eponymous, much more raw punkish : Jennifer Lost The War, Tehran, Kill The President and I'll Be Waiting. This is such a great band, totally underrated.
Smash(the song) is hell of a underrated, its really good
