I’ll only go with schemes since I’ve started watching in 2016 * Busch’s M&M’s 18 * Larson’s HendrickCars 5 * Elliott’s NAPA 9 * Logano’s Pennzoil 22 * Hamlin’s FedEx 11 That’s really all I got sadly
One thing that was always exciting in the 90's and early 2000's was watching The Winston just to see the unique one-off paint schemes teams would roll out. I think one thing that hurts today as well, is the fact that they don't paint the cars anymore. Now you have all kinds of radical designs that make the cars look like cartoons. Before this, the 3 was simple, the 43 was simple, the 28 was simple, the 6 was simple, the 24 stood out unlike anything else, but was still simple. Sometimes less is more.
I feel like the cars lost their luster when they stepped away from paint, and into wraps. There's just something special, and eye catching about real paint.
I’ve always found it crazy what types of companies sponsor cars. Like, old school sponsors make sense to me. I see an M&Ms car, makes me feel in the mood for M&Ms. I see an awesome green Interstate Battery car? Probably going to sway my decision on when I buy my next battery. But some of the modern sponsors blow my mind. Like, seeing an Ally Financial car isn’t going to make me choose them for my car loan. I’m going to get the best deal. Or the one that always blew my mind was McMurray’s Cessna paint scheme. I loved the scheme, but who the heck is gonna be like “you know what, I’m gonna go buy an airplane now”.
Although you definitely do have some good points here the main thing you're forgetting is that it took YEARS for those schemes to become iconic in the fanbase and i think the same thing will happen to today's schemes like Bowman's ally scheme Larson's Hendrick cars Ty Gibbs Monster energy and so on
Jimmie driving a blue car was how I decided to root for him when I was 3 years old. My favorite color was blue and I had my pick of either Rusty in the blue deuce or Jimmie in the Lowe's 48. I think that's why there's so many younger fans today that are Kyle Busch fans, since the kids went crazy for the M&Ms car. Hell, I even had a soft spot for John Andretti solely because I loved Cheerios as a little kid. I wish we had more full time paint schemes other than Larson, Truex and Joey
That's how I became a Bobby Labonte fan at 3. Apparently I took one look at that bright green energizer bunny, said that he was going to win the race, and he did. I'm 100% certain it's because the car was bright green and had a bunny on it lol.
@@amyparker9816For me, the Irwin Blue with school bus yellow flames for Jamie Mac was very iconic for me, especially when I played NASCAR 08 on PS2 when I was 8 in 2011...
I think we need bigger sponsors back, But they don’t want to sponsor metal and machine anymore, Lowe’s, MARS, PepsiCo, Burger King, Those aren’t coming back unfortunately. All we need are recognizable paint schemes and elite drivers winning in those colors.
If the sponsors aren’t coming back then it’s on the team to build their own. In F1 it helps that teams are tied to car manufacturers. But look at Red Bull has done. A consistent visual style for more than 10 years regardless of changing sponsors.
It’s crazy that MARS pulled out of NASCAR; the paint scheme on the No. 18 car was iconic, plus I like how they used different paint schemes for different candies & snacks, Kyle Busch was a top consistent racer in the 18 car with MARS as a sponsor and he won 2 championships
My first words (unofficial) were Richard Petty. Always been a giant racing fan, both NASCAR and dirt (and lately only dirt) I had countless 43 die casts when I was younger. I remember the first time I saw the Cup series in person, 2000 at Texas (only for qualifying) I was blown away with how bright the Texaco 28 of Ricky Rudd and the 32 Tide of Scott Pruett were. Anymore, I have driver loyalty over sponsor or car. There will probably be no more full-race sponsor with only one (heck, FedEx even scaled back on Denny's car) so to me, the most iconic schemes in NASCAR are the ones from the early-mid 90s when I first started watching as a tween/teenager: Texaco-Havoline, MGD/Miller Lite, Mello Yello, Hooters, Ford Credit/Quality Care, Skoal Bandit, Bill Elliott Budweiser, GM Goodwrench, Tide Ride (DW, Hendrick, or Rudd), Valvoline, ETC. I always like to see the teams attempt throwbacks as well, although with the NexGen number placement, it's not a true throwback. There's 2 cars that race the factory stock class down here in North Texas, one runs a Davey Allison throwback (he did the battle star for the first half of this season, now it's got the 1990 wrap on it) and another, even though it's number 75, he runs a Harry Gant throwback to the Burt Reynolds/Hal Needham days. Those were my 2 favorite wraps in that class all season
The only schemes I think of for drivers today that would be about synonymous with thier names are Elliott - Napa 9 Larson - HendrickCars 5 Bowman - Ally 48 Logano - Pennzoil 22 McDowell - Love's 34 Hamlin - FedEx 11 Truex - Bass Pro 19 and yet sponsors like Love's or FedEx are becoming more anonymous today DeWalt 20 will soon be synonymous with Bell, same for Cindric with Discount Tire, Blaney with Menards, and maybe Fastenal with Buescher other than that, sponsors are all over the place. Which sounds good in retrospect, but it leaves little room for a car the fans crave to see almost every weekend
As a fellow Jr fan, I really liked his Mountain Dew cars. The first one I liked was his 2010 version, which led to him becoming my favorite driver. That said, I love seeing the Bud 8 car back, even if it's a late model. I think the business model has had an effect on how there's been more than one scheme, which makes it hard to associate a driver & sponsor. That really tells you, it needs to have a major overhaul.
The first car I saw that I absolutely loved was Davey Allison's black and white #28 Havoline car with the gold numbers on it. He was my first favorite driver. After he passed away I started liking Bill Elliot. Then Junior hit the scene and he was my guy 100%.
One of the first cars I remembered watching is the Cale Yarborough Orange and white 28 Hardee's car in the mid-1980s winning two straight Daytona 500 with the in-car camera inside.
Honestly, i think it’s just a nostalgic vision, in 15 years in the future we gonna see Gen 6 and Next Gen the same time as we seen Gen 4 scheme. Top 10 Schemes will be in HOF of iconics Schemes 1. Denny Hamlin 2017 Fedex paint scheme 2. Joey Logano 2013-2021 Shell Pennzoil (definitely the “Flagship” paint for Logano) 3. Joey Logano 2022-present Shell Pennzoil for Las Vegas Races 4. William Byron Axalta 2021-2023 5. Kyle Larson Hendrick . Cars 2021-present 6. Kyle Larson Red and White Valvoline 2021-present 7. Kevin Harvick Busch Beer “blue tree” car 2017-2023 8. Carl Edwards Arris Orange car 2015-2016 9. Daniel Suarez Footsie car 2021-present 10. MTJ Bass Pro Shop car next gen paint 2022-present
It says something when 20-25 years ago I could tell whose who with worse quality than I can with todays cars with high resolution and bigger screens. It's not just the constant sponsor changes week in and week out but also the fact that the sponsor names and the car numbers don't pop out like they use to. Not to mention the way the next gen is modeled doesn't help either.
When I was little yellow was my favorite color. (I was a weird kid.) Matt Kenseth's black and yellow Dewalt car was my favorite, then found out we're both from WI. Yeah he was my favorite driver.
I realized today marks 20 years since the HMS plane crash that took the lives of family and friends of Rick Hendrick, including Ricky Hendrick. The main reason why Larson's HendrickCars scheme is iconic nowadays. I can relate to this 20 years later, especially with what I'm going through right now with my family
Yep. I remember the tribute image on the hood of the cars on each of Hendrick's cars at Atlanta (2004 Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500, or Nextel Cup racing at Atlanta on NBC: presented by The Home Depot)
I've been watching old races from 2006-2007, because now they're in HD on RUclips... But what happened?? The 20, 24, 48, 17, 99, 11 & 8 were iconic back then
When I first found nascar (around 02) I fell in love with the tide 32. Craven, Hamilton Jr and even kvapil were my guys. Then later on following Matt kenseth because of that black and yellow dewalt car. The sponsor and schemes mean so much more than I bet nascar thinks and it sucks how no one has a uniform look anymore. Other than larson
The biggest way to get back to iconic looking schemes is to use real paint and finisher again. These cars don’t gleam in the sunlight like they used to with their stupid library wraps.
NASCAR needs iconic paint schemes because they really connect with fans. Like the Jeff Gordon DuPont paint scheme, Matt Kenseth’s Dewalt paint scheme. NASCAR needs throwback schemes more. Thank goodness for throwback weekend at Darlington.
Joey Logano - Shell Denny Hamlin - FedEx Alex Bowman - Ally Ty Gibbs - Monster Energy Bubba Wallace - McDonald’s Chase Elliott - NAPA Auto Parts These are all iconic for people who watch NASCAR
Logano's Shell/Pennzoil scheme in my opinion is definitely one of the more recognisable and iconic. That scheme alone can be traced back all the way back when Steve (Steel) Park drove it. It hasn't changed much, but man, his car is instantly noticed even when he starts mid pack or towards the rear. Love him or hate him, the creative team behind his paint scheme deserves a praise because I know how difficult it is to design a SIMPLE / MINIMALIST YET ICONIC design, let alone a whole paint scheme.
Logano, Hamlin Bowman and Elliot are a fair call, the others are serious stretch, also Larson in the Hendrick Cars scheme, all those drivers need to use there primary liverys more often though.
Part of why I’m a Logano fan, his scheme is easily recognizable nearly every week. The red and yellow look fantastic together and pops out. Only an issue when McDowell is running good and he has Loves yellow and red. And when it’s AAA or AutoTrader on the car, the style is the same but with different colors to fit the sponsor. The only one not really following that style is Hunt Bros, but again, it’s already becoming iconic because it’s just a mean green machine. You don’t see anyone driving green out there.
Kurt Busch's Monster scheme was plan but it was consistent and a classic. But the 22 Shell scheme I don't think has changed since Kurt started in the 22. The 48 Ally car, the Larson's Hendrick 5, to an extent Elliot's Napa 9(although it changes a lot). I would say the Bass pro scheme but it is on 2 cars.
One sponsor + One car + One season = win! It’s a win for the sponsor. A win for the team who doesn’t need to keep changing uniforms and car wraps. A win for the fans who can recognise their favourite driver in an instant. A win for the networks who don’t have to ask or guess what car/team/driver that is. Look at the historic examples… The black and gold #2 MGD of Rusty Wallace The black #3 GM Goodwrench of Dale Earnhardt The black and gold #17 Castrol Edge of D.J. Kennington The light blue #43 STP of Richard Petty All of whom are legends of motorsports not only because of their on track achievements, but because fans recognise them and their paint schemes. We associate the sponsor with the artwork, the car number, the driver and their respective successes.
Great to see the Bud #8 back. It is one of my favorite NASCAR paint schemes alongside the black #3 of Dale Sr & the Jeff Gordon "Rainbow Warriors" scheme of the 90's. Speaking of paint schemes, over in Indycar, my favorite scheme would have to be the red & yellow & then red & white Target scheme used by Ganassi & made famous by drivers like Alex Zarnadi, Jimmy Vasser, Juan Montoya & Scott Dixon. Another Indycar paint scheme that I really liked was the baby blue & white Players car that Paul Tracy, the late Greg Moore & Jacques Villeneuve all drove in. Lastly in F1 the famous Ferrari red, the silver & black scheme McLaren used from 1997-2005, the light blue & yellow scheme Fernando Alonso used to win back to back World titles in 05 & 06 with Renault, and the black & yellow Jordan cars are the schemes I remember most watching F1 during that time period.
No joke, as a NASCAR fan who could name all Ford drivers before being able to form full sentences, that has not watched since Roush became a joke. This would convince me to at least look at the merchandise if not buy some of it to just get the vibe from my childhood. The Darlington race gets me to at least look up what teams are running for the weekend. Also my family still buys Tide and DeWalt for Rudd and Kenseth.
My favorite driver for the time i watched the sport was Jamie McMurray and i think his bass pro shop 1 is one of the more iconic schemes that car ran besides the all black dei one of martin truex jr
Yes the need for multiple sponsors is a contributing factor to the plethora of schemes we see today but also the technology of wrapping a car has made it much easier to run a lot more schemes. The 43 for example only has 3 primary sponsors it rotates through but yet dollar tree and family dollar have both changed their schemes mid season a few times. Advent Health has been consistent. The diecast industry also started the multiple schemes thing back in the 90’s when Earnhardt did the silver one off. That triggered the ability for teams to sell more diecast of the car by featuring more schemes. Now a days the diecast industry has shrunk to the point it’s only one provider and they won’t even make the diecast till it gets a certain number of pre orders so diecast don’t play the factor they once did. I really miss the days when you souls watch the race and know each car cause they were all consistent. It’s just not possible today.
The consistency of the scheme truly breeds familiarity and brand recognition case. With fewer sponsors willing to invest full time sure the variety of designs go up, but how many of them truly resonate with us on a long term? At this point the fonts for the numbers are more iconic now.
I think Penske had the right idea with just retooling the scallop scheme with different colors to fit their sponsor, so even when it wasn’t Shell-Pennzoil or SKF, the car was still recognizable and you’d know “oh that’s a Penske car”, we just don’t even have that anymore.
I get it but it doesn't really make much sense for a company to devote that much of a commitment. I like the random one-off type sponsors cuz you get cool liveries out of it like what's going on with shr right now
Some of my favorite paint schemes when I started watching NASCAR were the Mark Martin's Valvoline number 6, Bill Elliott's 9 Coors scheme, Davey Allison's Texaco 28 car, and Ricky Rudd's Quaker State car.
I think one thing that kinda helped make those old schemes really memorable is drivers ran said scheme on a daily basis with rarely changing it. Guys like Gordon with his Rainbow Warriors scheme and Flames scheme were iconic to those watching during the 90s and 2000s. Petty most of his career ran the 43 with STP on the car. Dale Earnhardt ran a yellow and blue car through his early years and of those people really only remember his Wrangler car since that’s the car he made famous and when he switched to GM GoodWrench in the late 80s, that was the scheme everyone associated him with since he made the black number 3 so popular. Jimmie Johnson in his Lowe’s scheme. The Tide 32 car. The M&Ms car being associated with Ken Schrader, Elliott Sadler, Kyle Busch, all these guys ran these schemes on the daily so it was easy to keep up with said drivers and once they retired or left the sport it makes the scheme they raced daily feel iconic later on. Whereas now they have multiple sponsors with different liveries, so unless u have a livery that is very well designed, none of the schemes don’t feel as special. The only ones I think come close to cars with eye catching liveries is Trackhouse. Whether it’s their normal race scheme or a throwback, u can’t help but admit they do make the most of the livery a lot of the time, with the only drivers that run a single livery consistently r Kyle Larson, Joey Logano, Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman, and kinda with Ryan Blaney. If anything NASCAR’s memorable schemes in the modern day seem to have all gone to IMSA. Like legit, NASCAR teams out here having 10 different liveries in a span of 15 races for example. Meanwhile IMSA is like “we have a mf-ing dinosaur and a dragon.”
GM Goodwrench phased out in 2010. STP could work with the 43 car at LMC... Home Depot...maybe with Bell? Lowe's w/ Bowman & Mountain Dew is kinda back with Kaulig but it's with Food City for the Bristol races.
I remember the times when drivers had 2 primary sponsors, too. I can point Jimmie Johnson driving both the Lowe's and Kobalt Tools car (even if they are basically the same. I enjoyed the many divisions of FedEx with Denny Hamlin. Carl Edwards running Aflac or Office Depot was neat! I am used to switching schemes but not like seeing it 5 or 6 different ones. Having 1 or 2 recognizable cars will get people hooked again
1st We need to Have Better Business Model in NASCAR and Have only 1 Sponsor per Team as it Makes the Car and the Driver More Iconic. Think of it, Jimmie and Lowe's, Jeff Gordon and Axalta/DuPont and Pepsi, Dale Sr wirh GM Goodwrench, Rusty Wand Miller, Tony and Home Depot and Office, Depot, Carl Edwards and Office Depot and Aflac, Richard Petty and STP and Dale Jarrett and UPS and Ford Credit, Motorcraft and Wood Brothers, FeDex and Denny, Shell Pennzoil and Budweiser and Harvick, DeWalt and Kenseth, Kyle and M&Ms, Kellogg's and HMS

Blaneys Mendards 12 will be iconic for years to come. They really found the perfect balance between rotating B2B sponsors on the hood but keeping a consistent look for the car week to week.
I do agree that we are missing iconic schemes nowadays, but I also kinda love when teams switch it up every year. I just think after a while a scheme gets old. Unless it's just a 10 out 10 banger. Plus I look forward every offseason to see what teams come up with and all the new designs
Theres no denying this: Jr is more iconic in the 8 Bud car than the 88 car that changed sponsors several times. Stewart is more iconic in the 20 Home Depot car than the 14 car that also changed sponsors several times. Johnson and Gordon also were iconic to their Lowes and Dupont cars they had for literally their entire career only to end it with Ally Bank for Johnson and for Gordon having it change to AARP and Axalta along with several different few race deal sponsors. At the end of the day it sucks none of these drivers ended their career with the sponsor they were most known for.
A lot of cars in the 90s schemes were actually designed by an artist. I think I saw somewhere that the DuPont rainbow scheme was designed by Sam Bass well as the days of thunder cars I think.
Bring back scott riggs nesquik paint scheme. Kobalt tools paint scheme lowes-power of pride, home depot all of them. Busch ac delco, pennzoil dewalt tools
If sponsors are willing to give, a little, I think it's possible to still get an iconic paint scheme in the era of 8-12 primary sponsors a year. The reason I like NASCAR is because I saw a book in the school library, all the way back in Kindergarten/Grade 1, that had a cool and fast looking car on the front. Being a 5-7 year old guy, I was hooked. It wasn't until I picked it up that I even saw "NASCAR." That car, btw, was dark blue, had red flames on the hood, and the DuPont logo emblazoned on the hood. I don't need to say who it was, or what the number was. Y'all know, already.
It’s definitely going to be the most sold diecast! I never buy them; I only have half a dozen that I’ve gotten from friends and family over the years; but I will without question be buying that Red 8 Chevy!
And one thing of the past was different sponsors still looked iconic to their respective driver bud always kept the bud feel m&ms was practically just a color swap or another candy the 2007/8 Gordon schemes were all the same just with a sponsor and color swap they still felt like the driver and were still easily recognizeable

The 11, 22, and more recently the 5 car are the main “iconic” schemes in this day and age. You could argue the 9 car with NAPA, but there seems to be different schemes compared tot the others. IMO, RFK kills the paint schemes more often than any other team.
I will say when you started talking about how you used to have Miller light and some beer or drink companies on the cars. Some of that has to do with how these companies are owned now. Some companies are all owned by one big company and they’re not gonna do multiple cars and spend that much money like that. When they used to be individually owned by separate companies, they’re more freedom to spend on stuff like that.
The that NASCAR has is that the teams are heavily reliant on their sponsors for their visual identity. This is a problem exclusive to Indy and NASCAR. If I told you to picture a RCR branded car in your head the first thing you would picture is the sponsor. If there is no consistent sponsor there is no idea. But if I were to ask you about a Ferrari race Car or a Red Bull race car you could picture it without to much trouble.
Sadly it was the resilience of Jr and the DEI crew of 2001 that made this scheme iconic. Sr’s tragedy resonated with everyone and Jr gained all of fans of the 3 car and anyone with a sense of compassion as a fan almost overnight. After Daytona if Jr wasnt your favourite driver he was your second favourite or maybe even 3rd as almost every fan wanted to see him make his dad proud. Thats what made the 8 car iconic. If he was driving the 15 or 1 that day we’d be talking about those schemes being iconic.
A big part of this is the brand. Bud is huge. Mavis tire is not. Rheem might be a big brand but it doesn’t have that mainstream recognition like Bud or Lowe’s.
NASCAR does need iconic schemes. You are right. Which is why I think that unless it's for a special occasion like the All-Star race, one paint Scheme has to be run on every car regardless of the sponsor in modern day NASCAR.
@@thatpaintschemeguy8Then simplify the scheme in such a way that it rarely changes from sponsor to sponsor. Hamlin's car was that for each division of FedEx he had that particular week. So if we had the Interstate Batteries sponsorship on a black FedEx base (change the purple to green and orange to white), then there you go. The colors may change, but the patterns they have shouldn't.
@@joshuapboston1999 Don't know if you realize this, but the sponsor itself plays a big role in paint scheme designs. So good luck trying to convince them to be onboard with that. 23XI for example, I seriously doubt Monster Energy want their logos on the hood of a red and white McDonalds scheme.
@@crystaljonLike I've said previously, you should at least simplify the scheme so that as little changes as possible are made to cause confusion. From there, change the colors accordingly to match the sponsor. So, to use your example for 23XI, for Monster Energy, if the primary sponsor for the 500 uses the McDonald's scheme, change the white to black, and then use two different shades of green to replace the red and gold, one lighter than the other. And yes, I know that sponsors can play a big part in the paint schemes. But between all of them, there has to be a balance to all of their schemes to make it cohesive across the full season.

Dale Sr Goodwrench 3
DW's Mountain Dew 88
Dale Earnhardt's #3 Wrangler Car, 86/87
As for "Special Edition" memorable cars... Dale Sr's Sam Bass 3... That this was so crazy bright compared to his regular livery ..
* Dale Earnhardt’s #3 Men in Black
* Jeff Gordon’s #24 Rainbow Warrior/Flames
* Kyle Larson’s #5 HendrickCars Swoosh
* Dale Earnhardt Jr’s #8 Budweiser Stripes
* Etc, Etc, Etc
I think the only iconic scheme these days would be Kyle Larson’s Hendrick Cars scheme because that’s his only one, aside from occasional Valvoline
Hamlin

Logano
Bowman?
11- FedEx (Denny Hamlin)
22- Pennzoil (Joey Logano)

I would include Kubota on the Chastain car being he's a farmer
@@CoryAY82383 Busch Light is his primary sponsor, though.
I would argue that Rheem is more synonymous with Bell than DeWalt, has had them backing him since his Xfinity days
Need iconic drivers first
As a fellow Jr fan, I really liked his Mountain Dew cars.
@4:08 man those gen 4 cars with real paint under the lights were something special
Top 10 Schemes will be in HOF of iconics Schemes
1. Denny Hamlin 2017 Fedex paint scheme
2. Joey Logano 2013-2021 Shell Pennzoil (definitely the “Flagship” paint for Logano)
3. Joey Logano 2022-present Shell Pennzoil for Las Vegas Races
4. William Byron Axalta 2021-2023
5. Kyle Larson Hendrick . Cars 2021-present
6. Kyle Larson Red and White Valvoline 2021-present
7. Kevin Harvick Busch Beer “blue tree” car 2017-2023
8. Carl Edwards Arris Orange car 2015-2016
9. Daniel Suarez Footsie car 2021-present
10. MTJ Bass Pro Shop car next gen paint 2022-present
Little 6 year old me saw a blue car with red flames and I’ve been hooked ever since
It says something when 20-25 years ago I could tell whose who with worse quality than I can with todays cars with high resolution and bigger screens.
And the Hendrick Plane Crash also reminded me of Kobe's Death, which I am Still Heartbroken from 😢😢
Yep. I remember the tribute image on the hood of the cars on each of Hendrick's cars at Atlanta (2004 Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500, or Nextel Cup racing at Atlanta on NBC: presented by The Home Depot)
Also a great way for Anhauser-Busch to try to bolster their image/ marketing as well from some previous marketing decisions they have made.
I heard that Junior s sold so much merchandise that the sponsorship was almost free
KFBs M&Ms car is the last memorable full time paint job.
The biggest way to get back to iconic looking schemes is to use real paint and finisher again. These cars don’t gleam in the sunlight like they used to with their stupid library wraps.
Yeah they don't shine the same
You nailed it👍
I liked Kyle Busch's 3Chi black and gold car. Never thought I'd see a pot leaf on the hood on a car in Nascar
Joey Logano - Shell
Denny Hamlin - FedEx
Alex Bowman - Ally
Ty Gibbs - Monster Energy
Bubba Wallace - McDonald’s
Chase Elliott - NAPA Auto Parts
These are all iconic for people who watch NASCAR
4 of those paint schemes are fairly recent, give it 10 more years and then they'll join the top 2 and the 5 car's paint scheme
Elliott’s scheme changes every year its more of the sponsor that goes along with him
@@S.K.R.E.Inc. I didn’t include Larson only because I mean his sponsor is literally in the team name
Bowman has the most races with ally. yes it’s not the same scheme every week but still the purple ally somewhere on the car
Honestly, I like the variety with schemes these days, now yes having one or 2 for a driver would be nice to help spot them but eh the variety is nice
Look at the historic examples…
The black and gold #2 MGD of Rusty Wallace
The black #3 GM Goodwrench of Dale Earnhardt
The black and gold #17 Castrol Edge of D.J. Kennington
The light blue #43 STP of Richard Petty
All of whom are legends of motorsports not only because of their on track achievements, but because fans recognise them and their paint schemes.
Jeff Gordon's Flames scheme
Dales paint scheme is iconic cause it was Dale. It was simple and he had that when his dad died and everyone started rooting for him
My favorite driver for the time i watched the sport was Jamie McMurray and i think his bass pro shop 1 is one of the more iconic schemes that car ran besides the all black dei one of martin truex jr
I'm a Larson and Bell fan so they almost always have the same sponsor at least on the car (Also JHN, Hocevar, Jones, Stenhouse, and Chastain fan)
I miss the blue 88 Yates rocket that Dale Jarrett used to drive.
I think Penske had the right idea with just retooling the scallop scheme with different colors to fit their sponsor, so even when it wasn’t Shell-Pennzoil or SKF, the car was still recognizable and you’d know “oh that’s a Penske car”, we just don’t even have that anymore.
Yeah damn Gen 7 number placement!
I get it but it doesn't really make much sense for a company to devote that much of a commitment. I like the random one-off type sponsors cuz you get cool liveries out of it like what's going on with shr right now
first thing i remember were the 18 m&m’s
I may be a bit biased, but Almirola's Smithfield Ford was one of the most recognizable paint scheme
The diecast also has the number in the right spot.
While i do love iconic schemes, i like having different schemes for diecasts. I enjoy collecting the more obscure ones.
Some of my favorite paint schemes when I started watching NASCAR were the Mark Martin's Valvoline number 6, Bill Elliott's 9 Coors scheme, Davey Allison's Texaco 28 car, and Ricky Rudd's Quaker State car.
McDowell in the Loves scheme! (rip for next year though lol)
Bring back the GM Goodwrech paint scheme, STP paint scheme, Home Depot paint scheme, Lowes Paint scheme, Mountain Dew Paint scheme. 😊
GM Goodwrench phased out in 2010.
STP could work with the 43 car at LMC...
Home Depot...maybe with Bell?
Lowe's w/ Bowman & Mountain Dew is kinda back with Kaulig but it's with Food City for the Bristol races.
One of those sponsors doesn't exist anymore, and three others are NOT coming back.
I think Blaneys advanced auto scheme has iconic potential. Unfortunately they’re unwilling to be a full season sponsor
I feel like that scheme has been pretty cursed for him. 😬
@@kawaiipapiiimpossible, he won Iowa in that scheme
That gives me Rusty Wallace vibes. That is a clean scheme.
I feel Blaney’s Menard’s car is semi consistent with the scheme design despite the color difference
We need a lot of things for NASCAR to be great again. But too bad the ya NASCAR has been managed for 2 decades sucks, even on the business side

You can’t force 1 sponsor for the whole year because not all sponsors are willing to pay for the whole year. NASCAR isn’t worth it like F1 is.
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT it's still great 2 me. Along with other fans like me
The only current paint scheme that is mostly the same all year is the Ally 48.
Kyle Larson's Hendrick Cars Scheme
@@thefranchise4698 Most races yes but Red Valvoline scheme is on the 5 for a few races a year.
Mnt Dew/diet Mnt dew primary with National Guard 88 was one of my favorites of Jr .
You made some great points. For me I feel the paint schemes have become too busy
I would say the Jeff Gordon Pepsi paint schemes rival the Dale Earnhardt jr Budwieser paint schemes
Something about that navy blue with the bright yellow numbers just looked great, and I wasn't even a Gordon fan
The Black and White Gold Number 28 Davey Allison
Theres no denying this:
Jr is more iconic in the 8 Bud car than the 88 car that changed sponsors several times.
DuPont Automotive Finishes and Axalta are the same company.
A lot of cars in the 90s schemes were actually designed by an artist. I think I saw somewhere that the DuPont rainbow scheme was designed by Sam Bass well as the days of thunder cars I think.
Gotta love RUclips's absolutely random ad placement in videos
Bring back scott riggs nesquik paint scheme. Kobalt tools paint scheme lowes-power of pride, home depot all of them. Busch ac delco, pennzoil dewalt tools
I kinda miss dale jr's amp energy cars...
Truex Bass Shop, Chase Napa car, Reddicks 45 Monster car and Busch’s Rebel whiskey are some of my current favorites
Can’t forget Keselowskis King Hawaiian! 🍞🤙🏾
It was the 2000 Atlanta race and Dad introduced me to Dale Earnhardt
There are still some iconic schemes in nascar right now, Alex Bowman, Michael McDowell, Christopher Bell (Dewalt and Rheem)
Personally I feel like Kevin Harvick’s 2014 Budweiser scheme is pretty iconic
Say what you want but the gen 6 car just genuinely looked faster than anything since.
I think Gen 6 looks better than Gen 7 especially the early years with contingencies.

I picked Bobby Hamilton off Richard Petty 43 paint job then I went to Kenseth
The main ones today are Loganos shell, Dennys fedex, larsons hendrick scheme
The 11, 22, and more recently the 5 car are the main “iconic” schemes in this day and age. You could argue the 9 car with NAPA, but there seems to be different schemes compared tot the others. IMO, RFK kills the paint schemes more often than any other team.
BLUE DUCE!!!! Miller light. 💚🤙
Costs need to come down if those singular iconic schemes are ever going to come back.
Two words! Diecast sales! That is what is missing. Schemes that catch your eye and say "I want this".
A big part of this is the brand. Bud is huge. Mavis tire is not. Rheem might be a big brand but it doesn’t have that mainstream recognition like Bud or Lowe’s.
Lots of good points, but it also doesn’t help that the next gen car with the forward numbers make most schemes look janky as hell
I hate that cars are looking every week different
Me too I liked the same sponsors every week and only time it changed was night races, the All-Star race, or a movie promotion or a crown jewel race.
Love it. I eagerly await “Why The France Kennedys Need To Sell NASCAR.”
NASCAR does need iconic schemes. You are right. Which is why I think that unless it's for a special occasion like the All-Star race, one paint Scheme has to be run on every car regardless of the sponsor in modern day NASCAR.
Oh god please no that'd be awful imagine interstate battery logos on a fedex base that would look awful
I think Larson's scheme (aka Ricky Hendrick tribute) is a now iconic Cup paint scheme.
M&Ms 18 not being mentioned once this video is crazy😭
Bots are in fast today...
I want blaney to stay in that day glo yellow and blue. It's what I always look for. Go Blaney 🎉
cant lie, the kings hawaiian 6 car is iconic. just need brad to win in it!
